Reality television shows are constantly changing. Networks and producers are always trying new things to make their shows fresh and relevant. This is normally a good thing for the fans of reality television. However, in the case of Survivor, it is not something fans are happy about. The changes in this CBS megahit television show have fans wondering if Survivor is still a reality competition show or if it has now become a soap opera. Fans are displeased, to say the very least.

2023 was an excellent year for new reality TV formats.
House of Villains burst onto screens, grabbed our attention, and didn’t let go for an entire season.
It makes sense then that the show pulled in solid ratings for E! and secured a speedy renewal for Season 2.
While we know that filming is probably already underway, the first cast member has seemingly already leaked, and we’re inclined to believe the person in question will deliver some good TV.
All About The Real Housewives reported this week that Teresa Giudice will give family feuds a rest as she embraces her mean streak on House of Villains Season 2.
Given how successful the likes of Phaedra Parks and Sheree Whitfield have been on The Traitors Season 2, it’s no surprise that other formats are looking to bring in notable housewives.

It was the reality TV scandal to end all scandals. So earth-shaking that it got its own hashtag: #Scandoval.
In early March, just a few episodes into the tenth season of Vanderpump Rules, it was sensationally revealed that Tom Sandoval — the worm-mustached cover-band lead and minority-stake West Hollywood bar owner — and Rachel (formerly Raquel) Leviss had been engaged in a secret months-long affair, all behind the back of Sandoval’s then-girlfriend, Ariana Madix, and their co-stars. [Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for House of Villains Finale] Some of the most recognizable and devious personalities in the reality TV game put their skills to the test on House of Villains. Host Joel McHale revealed their last Battle Royale challenge would be “Last Supper.” The eating competition saw the group downing hard-boiled eggs, nuclear spicy wings, red snapper eyeballs, bull testicles, and pig brains served up by Below Deck’s Ben Robinson. Bananas had the stomach to finish his meal first, earning him a guaranteed seat in the finals. The Challenge legend chose his ride-or-die Tanisha to join him. This left Shake, Fairplay, and Anfisa battling it...

Earlier this year, Discovery Channel introduced a major twist to its long-running reality series Naked and Afraid. The new spinoff Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing pitted 12 experienced survivalists against each other in a 45-day, multiphase challenge. There is a $200,000 cash prize to be won on House of Villains, but that's not what this show is about. E!'s new reality series has gathered 10 villains from popular reality TV shows — classic aughts reality veterans like Survivor's Jonny Fairplay and Tiffany "New York" Pollard; newer villains like Shake Chatterjee from Love Is Blind and Jax Taylor from Vanderpump Rules — and while the show is structured as a competition, it’s closer to a pageant. House of Villains is a drag ball where the category is "extreme reality TV villain," and some of the contestants are better equipped to compete than others.

House of Villains has an all-star reality TV cast, and we’re excited to dive into the new series. Reality TV villains have been around for as long as the television genre has existed, and fans love to hate the scummiest folks who are cast on these shows. Now, these villains have a second chance to shine. So, what makes each House of Villains cast member a true villain? Here’s what crimes they’ve committed in the past.
‘House of Villains’ cast member Jax Taylor from ‘Vanderpump Rules’ brought the drama
It makes sense that the House of Villains cast would include Jax Taylor from Vanderpump Rules. As one of the original cast members, Jax became known for cheating, lying, and causing severe drama.
Eventually, Jax met Brittany Cartwright, and they could sustain a relationship despite Jax cheating on her with their co-worker. At the time, Brittany told Jax to “rot in hell,...

The “Survivor” alum, who famously lied about his grandmother dying to gain sympathy from his tribemates while competing on the CBS reality competition in 2003, should know. He’s parlayed those 15 minutes of villainy into a 20-year career.
So has Omarosa, who also made her TV debut 20 years ago in inaugural season of “The Apprentice” with Donald Trump. Even before the days of social media, Omarosa knew the value of personal branding.

Love Is Blind alum Abhishek "Shake" Chatterjee had a clear mindset going into House of Villains: "Expect the unexpected," he told Primetimer ahead of the October 12 premiere. With just one season of reality television under his belt, Shake is one of the more inexperienced cast members on E!'s new competition series, which sees 10 infamous antagonists go head-to-head in hopes of winning $200,000. But while Shake confesses to being "low on the totem pole" when compared to prolific baddies like Omarosa Manigault Newman, Jax Taylor, and Jonny Fairplay, he quickly adapted to the complex social dynamics within the house. "It ended up going from House of Villains to School of Villains," he says.

House of Villains, E!’s new series featuring reality TV baddies such as Vanderpump Rules’ Jax Taylor and The Apprentice’s Omarosa, is looking to “lean into the comedy” of the genre, according to its exec producer.
John Irwin, who runs Irwin Entertainment and has produced celebrity house shows such as Celebrity Rehab and Sober House, told Deadline, “From the beginning, our strategy was to lean into the comedy of this concept and for the show to parody itself and the genre.”
Irwin explained that the show, which pits the reality villains against each other via a series of challenges in order to win $200,000, was initially developed by the NBCUniversal-owned cable network.
John Irwin
He said that Joel McHale was their first choice. “Not only is he insanely funny, he’s also a hard-core fan of reality television and familiar with most of our cast from his days on The Soup.

The “House of Villains” is going to get a little more crowded, with several more iconic reality TV baddies making guest appearances.
They include:
Danielle Staub, an original castmate on “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” whom Teresa Giudice infamously flipped a table on in Season 1. She also violently pulled Margaret Josephs’ hair in Season 10. Carole Baskin, who was featured in Netflix’s “Tiger King” documentary. The animal rights activist is the CEO of Big Cat Rescue and is known for her catchphrase “Hey all you cool cats and kittens!” Abby Lee Miller, the founder of her eponymous dance studio and star of “Dance Moms.” Miller was indicted for fraud by the Department of Justice and sentenced to under one year in jail in 2017. Spencer Pratt, healing crystal aficiando and one-half of reality power couple “Speidi” with wife Heidi Pratt. The couple rose to fame on the MTV faux reality series “The Hills.

How many reality TV villains under the same roof can we get?
That's the question E! execs probably asked when they were pitched House of Villains, a new series in the works for the fall.
The cabler announced the cast, premiere date, and first footage for the project, and it definitely has potential.
We'll start with the premiere date. The series begins on Thursday, October 12, at 10/9c.
The cast comprises some big names in the reality TV circuit -- and beyond.
The Apprentice and Celebrity Big Brother alum Omarosa will be present, alongside Flavor of Love and Celebrity Big Brother UK scene-stealer Tiffany "New York" Pollard.
Vanderpump Rules villain Jax Taylor is also on the cast, but we're sure he won't speak about Scandoval.
The cast also includes Jonny Fairplay (Survivor), Corinne Olympios (The Bachelor), Johnny Bananas (The Challenge), Shake Chatterjee (Love Is Blind), and Bobby Lytes (Love & Hip-Hop: Miami...

Jeff Zausch may not have won Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing. But that hasn’t stopped him from criticizing the other cast members on the Discovery Channel reality series. The Idaho survivalist feels that many of the other people on the Naked and Afraid spinoff didn’t approach the game with the right mindset, which ruined the competition.
Jeff Zausch was playing to win on the ‘Naked and Afraid’ spinoff
Jeff entered the first-ever true Naked and Afraid competition with one goal in mind: to triumph over the other players and take home the $100,000 prize. So when he arrived in South Africa’s punishing Oribi Gorge for the 45-day challenge, he was stunned to discover that the rest of the cast had a different attitude.
Jeff focused on gathering as many of the producer-planted caches as he could so he could keep them out of the hands of the other players.

Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing’s competition format may not have been popular with all the show’s contestants, but it was a hit with viewers. Discovery Channel’s spinoff of its popular reality series Naked and Afraid is the network’s highest-rated series so far in 2023, according to Deadline, attracting more than 15 million total viewers since its premiere in early May.
Unsurprisingly, Discovery has renewed the survival series – which pits 12 all-star cast members against each other in a race for a $100,000 grand prize – for season 2. So far, there’s no word on a possible premiere date or cast. But one controversial season 1 star is eager for a shot at redemption.

Some Survivor contestants will stop at nothing in their attempt to win the game. Things can get pretty ugly as castaways fight to be the last one standing in the popular CBS reality series. So, perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a few cast members have bent – or broken – the rules back in the real world. After returning home, these six Survivor players have found themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Richard Hatch capably played the role of the villain on Survivor’s first season back in 2000. His ruthless approach to the competition meant he walked away the winner. But a few years later, a jury convicted him of failing to pay taxes on his $1 million in prize money from the show. He served 51 months in federal prison. But the stint behind...

Survivor is one of those shows that is made great by the character of the players and the work of the editors.
A jury of booted players always chooses the winner, but sometimes the winner is a surprise even to production.
It's up to the editors to craft a satisfying narrative based on the footage they have but still make sure the outcome isn't too obvious. Thirty-nine days (or 26 in the last three seasons) yields a lot of material, so you'd think they'd always have enough to go on.
Not always. Sometimes, making the winner appear deserving seems impossible, so the players' relationships and strategies are embellished or tossed aside in favor of an entertaining throughline. It hasn't always worked.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for many seasons of Survivor.

Jennie Garth was drop-dead gorgeous in a sheer white minidress as she posed in front of pink flowers.
The What I Like About You actress posted the photo to Instagram on Monday with the caption, “Mommy, stand by the pretty flowers!” in quotation marks.
The adorable white dress had a polo-esque bodice complete with a collar, sleeves, and three buttons. The skirt of the short dress fell in classic t-shirt style and cropped well above her knees, to accentuate her long legs.
A necklace with a flat, round, golden pendant hung simply from around the actress’ neck. Garth sported a pair of brown, cat-eye sunglasses that gave her an effortlessly glamorous look.

The game of "Survivor" is afoot once again, with sixteen new competitors — and two familiar ones — setting sail to the "South Pacific" in last night’s premiere of what's sure to be a cutthroat and hungry journey for the million dollar prize. Already we've met an eclectic cast that includes a medical marijuana dispenser, a spoken word artist, the nephew of one of the game's most notorious players, two returning alumni and a self-described "student of the game" who very nearly flunked out during the very first exam.
So what's going down on the new season of "Survivor"? How did Coach and Ozzy do? Who broke down and cried first? Which contestant gave us the most awkward description of human flesh possible? We've got all that and more in our "Survivor" recap after the jump!

Jon Dalton, 37, a.k.a. Jonny Fairplay, one of the most hated "Survivor" villains in the history of the show, tells TMZ that his wife Michelle Deighton has left him and taken their daughter with her. He says Michelle left him a couple weeks ago and just said it was because she doesn't want to be with him anymore.
He also says he plans to fight for custody of their daughter Piper Addison, who was born in January 2008.
Deighton was a contestant on the fourth cycle of "America's Next Top Model," where she finished sixth. Dalton, in addition to his "Survivor" infamy for lying about his grandmother's death, has been a professional wrestler since 1998.
Frankly, it is shocking to us that these two crazy kids didn't work out.

It only took two episodes for our returning stars to really get the wheels moving for this game. Our Round Table writers are excited to talk about Rob's big move and Russell's extensive arrogance.
As always, we encourage answers from our readers.
Should Phillip or Kristina have been voted out instead of Matt?
Kyle Kalember: Since it was impossible for Kristina to get voted out with her idol I'll have to say Phillip. Now Kristina would have been my preference due to her idiotic sorta-play of the idol to get rid of Rob, but Phillip is crazy. At least he isn't "I want to turn off the TV because you make me ill" crazy. Rob's one-liner was enough to make the Phillip experience worth it to me. If he gives Rob more ammunition for great comedy then you can sign me up.
Dan Forcella: Did Boston Rob making the right move?...

A report suggests that Jon Dalton, aka Jonny Fairplay, will return to Survivor during one of next year's seasons, something Dalton himself alluded to about year ago. I don't watch many reality shows, but there are a few to whom I've been loyal for quite some time: "Survivor", "The Amazing Race" (which has mostly turned into a snoozefest), "Project Runway" and more recently "Top Chef". Regardless of how interested you are in cooking or fashion and besides the intellectual and physical aspects of a competition, there are certainly people who make one season more watchable than another. For me, I don't think anything will ever top the first season of "Survivor", nor will I find a winner more clever (up to the point of his victory) than Richard Hatch. That mofo hit the island and directed his "Survivor" win and he did it before anyone else made a blueprint or laid out the unwritten laws that so many future participants seem to forget. (Seriously people, if you're going on a reality show that has this many seasons,...

Rumors abound that Mike White and his dad Mel will stage a comeback, not to mention Luke Adams and his mom Margie as well as Kris and Amanda — all from season 14. If true, this would be the second all-star edition of the Emmy-winning show; the last one aired during season 11 and averaged 10.5 million. The next installment of Race is expected to bow in February or March.

Left in the dark after the wild La Flor tribal council our Survivor Round Table writers convened to discuss their theories on what happened. Our review covered one possibility, but with so few facts to go on, anything is possible. Also, what was Holly thinking? Is NaOnka actually making sense? Which nickname should stick for Brenda?
Our readers must have their theories as well, right? Let's hear 'em!
Holy Manipulating Marty! What the heck happened at La Flor's tribal council?
Quiet Pool: I think Mr. Probst overestimated everyone's intelligence in his review. The young La Florians got confused after Marty didn't use his immunity idol. Or maybe they were so ill-prepared that they had no plan for a re-vote and were wingin' it.
Lady Gaga: Mind blowing! What the heck happened? Could Marty have used the idol for the second vote? No, right? So many questions. Were they really that worried about Kelly B?...

Last night on Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, Sandra Diaz-Twine became the only person ever to win two seasons. She seemed to steal the crown from Parvati - literally - without dominating the challenges or the strategic decisions. Rather, she constantly gave players like Russell the rope to hang themselves with, feeding on egos and conflicts, and manipulating others into doing her bidding like a trickster from a Shakespearean tale.
Some viewers have complained that Sandra was less entertaining this season than in the Pearl Islands. But lest there be any concern that Sandra has changed, and become less foulmouthed and brassy, let me reassure you: That was just sensible gameplay. Talking to her this morning about Johnny Fairplay and Russell, she was hilarious. That she is, deep down, the same person who screamed at Johnny Fairplay is all the more proof that Sandra played a controlled, deliberate game, and deserved to win.

The former Heroes are turning on Candice for letting Russell know the foiled plan to vote him out at last week's Tribal Council. "Colby and I are on a sinking ship. We stand alone.
