Last year, we saw a list of thirteen movies that would be riffed during the new season of the classic series Mystery Science Theater 3000, which is now being released through the show’s own indie streaming platform The Gizmoplex. On that list was a movie called The Christmas Dragon, which was said to be about “a group of orphans going on a journey to restore the lost magic and save Christmas.” What wasn’t mentioned at that time is that original MST3K host Joel Hodgson will be returning to riff The Christmas Dragon with current hosts Jonah Ray and Emily Marsh!
The Christmas Dragon episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 will be reaching the Gizmoplex on December 16th. The livestream premiere begins at 8pm Eastern. Here’s the information:

Vmi Worldwide has been tempting Croisette buyers with action titles Riot starring Dolph Lundgren and Perfect Weapon with Steven Segal.
Riot falls under the company’s new multi-title production deal with Lundgren and goes out in North America via output partner Cinedigm.
Director John Lyde is in production in Utah on the revenge story about a former police officer who infiltrates a prison to strike at a mob boss. Matthew Reese and Chuck Liddell also star.
“This is now the third time that we’ve had the pleasure and honour to work with action Legend Dolph Lundgren and it’s looking like there will be many more film collaborations to come,” said Vmi president Andre Relis. “We couldn’t be happier to once again be associated with such a professional and inspiring partner.”
Lundgren also stars alongside Mickey Rourke, Liddell and Luke Goss in the WWII action title War Pigs.

It seems that before Osama Bin Laden was killed he ingeniously injected himself with a serum that would bring him back to life as a flesh-eating zombie. His burial at sea (the Arabian Sea?) is short-lived as Osombie (Walter A. Carmona) awakens and swims to the nearest coastline where he attacks a couple of Americans. Back in Afghanistan yoga instructor Dusty (spunky Eve Mauro) is wandering around the desert in search of her brother Derek (game Jasen Wade). Derek was a firefighter who was sick on 9/11 and is haunted by the fact that his co-workers all perished while attempting to evacuate the twin towers. Sometimes, a radical terrorist has to be killed twice.
The Truth: The first trailer for zombie flick Osombie debuted in February while the movie was still searching for distribution. Now, just in time for Christmas, the DVD and Blu-Ray are being released by Arrowstorm Entertainment (December 11), a little over a week before Academy Award–winning director Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty enters theaters. Osombie will probably do little to take away from Zero Dark Thirty's Oscar heat, but is definitely trying to feed off of the movie's "hunt for Osama Bin Laden" buzz.

I’m sure “The Hobbit” will be great and all, but when you compare the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on those films to what the filmmakers behind the independently-produced “The Shadow Cabal” are working with, there’s no denying Arrowstorm Entertainment and Mainstay Productions know how to maximize even the smallest of budgets. From director John Lyde, the film tells the story of an agent of the Order named Keltus (Richard McWilliams) as he attempts to hunt down the mysterious Shadow Cabal. After hitting a dead end, Keltus teams up with an elven bounty hunter (Danielle Chuchran) and orc raider (Paul D. Hunt) in order to get back on the [ Read More ]

Osambie. The trouble with silly gimmicky titles is that as viewers of Nymphoid Barbarian In Dinosaur Hell will confirm theyre usually the best part of a moronic unwatchable film. Kudos to director John Lyde then for squeezing a lot from a little and giving us a good looking movie with above average zombie makeup and production values that at no point brings to mind the cheap stupid tackiness of say Nazis At The Centre of the Earth. Thats the good news.

*a screener of this film was provided by Signature Entertainment. Director: John Lyde. Writer: Kurt Hale. Cast: Corey Sevier, Eve Mauro and Jasen Wade. "Why are there no Walmarts in Afghanistan? Because, there is a Target on every corner." Sadly, this is as good as the jokes get in John Lyde's Osombie: The Axis of Evil Dead. This reviewer had some hopes that this film would be a little more comedic. After all, the source material involves Osama Bin Laden returned from the dead as a zombie. Unfortunately the film focuses only on some light banter between a squad of American special forces, who are sometimes strangely shirtless. The Osombie needed a devious plan to keep events tense; maybe then, the film would not have shambled about so much. The film starts off in Pakistan at Osama Bin Laden's final hideout. The American squad goes in by...

Halle Berry slips on a bikini for the first official poster for director John Stockwell’s “Dark Tide”, which is due out On Demand March 8th and in limited release March 30th. Basically direct-to-dvd. Remember the days when Halle Berry in a bikini would have guaranteed a wide theatrical release? Oh well. Here’s the teaser trailer in case you missed it: Meanwhile, here’s a new poster for director John Lyde’s “Osombie”, his Osama Bin Laden zombie movie that’s getting lots and lots of airplay recently even among the mainstream press. Lyde is the director of a little-known, low-budget action movie called “The Eleventh Hour” from a few years ago that I thought was pretty good, especially given the (lack of) resources he had to work with. The great thing about horror is the pure freedom of ideas and uniqueness it can bring to the world of filmmaking. Arrowstorm Entertainment's new action horror flick 'Osombie' is a prime example. Did you ever wonder why our government didn.t show any real proof that despised terrorist Osama Bin Laden was killed by our special forces? The body reportedly was dumped overboard and .buried. at sea, for various reasons. Some argue that is the proper course of action for an Islamic burial. Others contend that we didn.t want a burial site to serve as a shrine for the criminal.s assorted followers. Director John Lyde has a different theory, though. He thinks we buried Bin Laden because he.d turned into a zombie. That.s the teaser trailer for Lyde.s Osombie: The Axis of Evil Dead, a horror-comedy-thriller that imagines Bin Laden emerging from the sea to create a zombie apocalypse in Afghanistan. Ok, so I don.t know if it.s meant to be a comedy, but I was laughing my ass off at the sight of...

It's only been 9 months since Seal Team Six accomplished their mission to hunt down and kill Osama Bin Laden. Unfortunately, after burying the known terrorist at sea, Bin Laden has returned as a member of the undead and a Nato Special Forces team will have to hunt him down and stop a zombie apocalypse. Such is the premise behind Osombie, the indie zombie movie from producer-director John Lyde (You're So Cupid!) and screenwriter Kurt Hale (Church Ball).

Osama Bin Laden is back. Except, this time, he's a zombie in the indie horror film Osombie. No, we're not making this up.
The film is currently in post-production and a trailer has been released. Surprisingly, the production value is fairly solid and it approaches the material with a straight face. Eve Mauro co-stars; you might remember her from Wicked Lake. And Corey Sevier, of the upcoming Apartment 1303, is the leading man who finds every chance to tear off his shirt. Behind the camera is director John Lyde.

I’m not sure what to say about this. It is a thing, a thing that is happening, and it’s called “Osombie”. The premise is simple really, Osama Bin Laden returns from the dead as a flesh-eating zombie and raises an army of zombie terrorists. Take a moment to let that one sink in. And of course there is a trailer for “Osombie”, which is embedded below. There are explosions, deserts, blood, shirtless dudes, and, of course, zombies. Like I said, I’m having trouble coming up with things to say about this movie. How about this: balls. It certainly is a bold move to make a film about zombie Bin Laden. Then again, I’m a big fan of Nazi-zombie movies, so who am I to judge? A bit soon? Perhaps. But you know what? Good for director John Lyde and writer Kurt Hale for just going for it.

It’s been a while since we last reported on the slasher flick Sorority Party Massacre, but fear not! We hit the Simi Valley, California, set in early December, 2011, to not only witness a mock hanging and a bevy of scantily-actresses sunbathing but also chat with co-director Chris Freeman and one of the film’s stars, scream queen Eve Mauro. Written and produced by Freeman (who co-directs with Justin Jones and who co-wrote last year’s feature Paranormal Incident), the slasher vs. college girls flick Sorority Party Massacre stars Kevin Sorbo, the previously mentioned Mauro (she of Wicked Lake fame, among others), Ed O'Ross, C. Recently it was revealed that Steven Soderbergh was brought in to do some second unit directing on The Hunger Games. Ever since that news hit folks began speculating as to what the director might really be doing on set. Word was that he was simply helping out his friend, Hunger Games director Gary Ross, but others -- including Hunger Games fan film director John Lyde -- speculated that perhaps either folks weren't happy with Gary Ross or Soderbergh was really on set filming scenes for the next Hunger Games movie, possibly as its as-yet-announced director. Doing press for Contagion this week, Soderbergh cleared up all the rumors surrounding his presence on The Hunger Games set. "Back in April, [The Hunger Games director] Gary [Ross] -- who is a close friend of mine...

Before he became a drunk and the laughing stock of District 12, ol Haymitch Abernathy was a pretty badass dude with a good head on his shoulders. Since the “Hunger Games” books by Suzanne Collins tells the story from its heroine’s point of view (in first person), we don’t really know too much about Haymitch’s Hunger Games except in passing, though there was a short section that showed how he won his games via recordings (everything in the games are recorded). So how exactly did he win? Well, why read about it when filmmaker John Lyde has gone and shot a 10-minute short film telling you exactly how. Haymitch Abernathy is being played by Woody Harrelson in the Lionsgate movie coming out in 2012. Gary Ross of “Seabiscuit” and “Pleasantville” fame is directing, with Jennifer Lawrence playing the heroine, Katniss Everdeen, whose stint in the Hunger Games launches a...

Are you a die-hard fan of Suzanne Collin's young adult dystopian novel "The Hunger Games"? Well, if you are, prepare to either cry or suffer from a rage blackout from this fan-made short film, which depicts one the book's saddest scenes -- spoiler alert! -- Rue's death and Katniss' touching tribute to her.
If you haven't read "The Hunger Games," we a) feel sorry for you and b) request you run to your local Barnes & Noble Asap and buy the trilogy. No need to thank us, it's what we're here for.
The short film was shot, edited and directed by John Lyde, who wants to use the piece as an audition for the two actresses portraying Katniss and Rue, Danielle Chuchran and Savanna Kylie Lewis for Lionsgate films' adaptation of the novel. On the video's YouTube page Lyde writes, "I am a big fan of the 'Hunger Games' books and...

Hey gang! Here's a fantastic fan-made short film based on the book, The Hunger Games that you have to watch. The short is a scene taken from the book so there are spoilers. This is an extremely well made short directed by John Lyde, and I was impressed by the way it was shot, and the acting is really solid. It's a pretty sad scene between the characters Katniss played by Danielle Chuchran and Rue played by Savanna Kylie Lewis. The clip is definitely enough to get me excited about the film that is being made.
Lionsgate is the studio behind the film adaptation and Gary Ross (Pleasantville and Seabiscuit) is attached to direct it. I honestly think they should take some notes from this short because it really was done very well.
Here's a note from the creators on the short film:

House of Fears is, for the most part, fairly typical slasher fare. It stars a pack of mid-to-late twentysomethings who are killed off one by one, save for a couple of brave brave fighters. It does, however and somewhat surprisingly, keep the gratuitous violence to a minimum, and there's nary a sex scene in sight. However, it doesn't have much else going for it — the writing's not that great, the cinematography's not that great, and the acting's certainly not that great. The overall plot has vague potential — some high school kids break into a theme-park style haunted house the night before its grand opening, only to find that their fears begin coming to life because of a tiny cursed statue!
The fears themselves are for the most part pretty general, ranging from claustrophobia, to a psychotic clown (as if there's any other kind), to being stabbed, to being buried alive.

A couple more cult-fave slasher flicks of the early ’80s receive the special-edition treatment via DVDs that arrive November 24. Fango got the details on a new disc of Mark Rosman’s 1983 The House On Sorority Row (the basis of the current big-screen remake Sorority Row) from Liberation Entertainment, and the DVDebut of 1980’s Silent Scream from the new Scorpion Releasing.
House On Sorority Row, previously issued on a bare-bones disc by Elite, has been given a fresh transfer from a recently discovered print for this 25th Anniversary Edition (even though the film is technically 26 years old). The film is now supplemented with:
Audio commentary by writer/director Rosman Alternate ending Photo gallery Trailer
Retail price is $19.95. Silent Scream, directed by Denny Harris from a script by Jim and Ken Wheat (who also produced) and Wallace C. Bennett, is set at a boarding house where a group of college students take up residence,...

If you can forgive John Lyde and Matthew Reese their lack of resources, then “The Eleventh Hour” is not a bad way to spend 90 minutes. It’s actually a very good action film, and had the duo been in possession of, say, 10% of your average Hollywood budget, they could have produced something special. Alas, the (lack of) budget is a major source of constraint for the duo, and so instead of a globe-hopping thriller about an ex-Navy Seal who returns home shattered and broken, only to have his past come back to grab him by the throat and send him off on an assassination run, we instead have a film set in an unnamed Midwestern town where, it would appear, running gunfights that last the better part of the day don’t get reported. “The Eleventh Hour” stars Matthew Reese as Michael Adams, a former Navy Seal who, during a...
