The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pledge, while noting that the “responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives,” acknowledges that “America’s storytellers” have the power to “effect change.”
“Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety,” the Brady pledge states, and goes on to ask writers, directors and producers to, whenever possible, to:

Tyler Mitchell’s philosophy has always been “run to love”.
So when Film Victoria called him in early 2019 expressing admiration for the inaugural Impact accelerator program he ran with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer in the US, it was enough to plant the seed for an Australian version of the initiative.
“If someone loves what you are doing, you should embrace that,” he told If.
“We started talking and between Film Victoria, Screen Australia, and the states, there was tremendous support and a real partnership, not just financially, but with the mission we have.”
It’s a collaboration that will continue this year when Impact Australia returns in person following an inaugural virtual program in 2020.
Delivered in conjunction with Gentle Giant Media Group, Impact Australia 2 will pair local creators with leading screenwriters, or ‘shapers’, who over eight weeks will help them craft their project and prepare them for pitch day in front of buyers.

Mentors will include: True History Of The Kelly Gang writer Shaun Grant, Carnival Row executive producer Kai Wu, Lucky Number Slevin writer Jason Smilovic, Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl director Stuart Beattie, and Girls writer Sarah Heyward.

At&T Audience Network’s thriller series Condor, adapted from the Oscar-nominated film Three Days of the Condor and the screenplay Three Days of the Condor by Lorenzo Semple Jr. and David Rayfiel, stars Max Irons as Joe Turner, a young CIA analyst who unwittingly becomes the center of a major conspiracy. Today’s Deadline’s The Contenders Emmys Condor panel offered an unusual perspective on the show by assembling the actresses who play the very important women surrounding Joe in this complex and compelling story.
The panel, moderated by Peter White, included Mira Sorvino, Christina Moses, Kristen Hager and Katherine Cunningham. The series also stars William Hurt, Leem Lubany, Angel Bonanni and Bob Balaban. Brendan Fraser guest stars in the series created by Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg.
As has been the case with many of today’s series panels, the women had a difficult time speaking about their characters without revealing their fate.

At&T Audience Network has renewed two of its hit series, poly-romcom You Me Her for a fourth and fifth seasons and conspiracy thriller Condor for a second season.
You Me Her, from Entertainment One, and created by executive producer and showrunner John Scott Shepherd, stars Greg Poehler, Rachel Blanchard and Priscilla Faia in a romantic comedy with a little something extra: a third person.
At the end of last season, the “throuple” pulled together their happy ending – a surprise poly commitment ceremony in a pizza joint. Now, they’re settling back into the ‘burbs to live a tweaked version of the conventional “married with children” life. Are “the accidental polyamorists” trying to jam a triangular peg into a round-hole world? Will they break the neighborhood, their peculiar romance, or both?
Alta Loma Entertainment’s Peter Jaysen and Alan Gasmer executive produce.

Max Irons will soon follow in the formidable onscreen footsteps of Robert Redford. The forthcoming Audience Network series “Condor” casts the second-generation English actor (dad is Jeremy Irons) as avian-nicknamed CIA analyst Joe Turner, the role Redford originated in Sydney Pollack’s 1975 film, the Oscar-nominated “Three Days of the Condor.” Entertainment Weekly debuted the first trailer today, along with production photos.
The TV version adapted material from both the feature and its inspiration, James Grady’s novel “Six Days of the Condor.” Unlike its predecessors, this 10-episode telling is set in Washington, D.C. instead of New York City. Available to DirectTV subscribers, Audience Network is perhaps best known for another show based on a book, “Mr. Mercedes,” overseen by showrunner David E. Kelley.

A movie based on a book. A TV show based on the movie. “Six Days of the Condor” to “Three Days of the Condor” to just this: “Condor,” the new Audience Network spy series that’s lost five days while expanding to 10 hours. Amid all these changes, something has to go wrong, right?
It’s not just that Sydney Pollack’s 1975 classic feels untouchable (and relatively timeless, despite the fact that part of Robert Redford’s job is reading newspapers); it’s that the series directly lifting from the film comes from a somewhat unproven pedigree and will play on a network only accessible to satellite subscribers.
Well, after the first two episodes, the latter point isn’t a warning so much as a shame. Jason Smilovic (“Lucky Number Slevin”) and Todd Katzberg’s “Condor” isn’t a “drop everything and subscribe to DirecTV” kind of show, but it is...

Approached by MGM Television and Skydance Television for a television adaptation of Sydney Pollack’s classic thriller Three Days of the Condor, Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg initially were reluctant to do so, finding the notion of adapting the film sacrilegious. But looking at the film more closely, the producers realized that the movie was overflowing with potential and ripe for a TV adaptation. Broadcast on the Audience Network, the Ep’s take on the material would…...

Long before ordering Miles Teller and Jonah Hill off to the front lines, The Hangover director Todd Phillips came close to enlisting Shia Labeouf and Batman V Superman star Jesse Eisenberg for his gleefully over-the-top action comedy, War Dogs.
Opening in theaters today, August 19, Phillips revealed to Cinema Blend that the thriller formerly known as Arms and the Dudes originally had Labeouf attached to the part of vain gunrunner Efraim Diveroli, with Eisenberg slotting into the role of his partner-in-war-crime, David Packouz.
So, what changed? According to Phillips, a deal didn’t stick, though considering that both he and screenwriters Stephen Chin and Jason Smilovic wrote the script with Jonah Hill in mind, it would appear things worked out for the best.
Just to speak to that first part, [Jesse Eisenberg and Shia Labeouf] were attached for a moment, and then we ended up pushing the movie an entire year and both guys became unavailable.

Chicago – “War Dogs” is an insufferable, self important, and heavy handed attempt at satire that can’t stop congratulating itself for all the big truths it’s blowing up, bro. “Old School” and “Hangover” director Todd Phillips fancies himself an auteur, but here it seems like he’s imitating David O Russell imitating Martin Scorsese.
Rating: 1.5/5.0
He’s picked a subject ripe for satire. Inspired by the true story, David (Miles Teller) and Efraim (Jonah Hill) play a couple of old high school friends in Miami who reconnect at a friend’s funeral during the early oughts in the middle of the Afghan and Iraq wars. David is struggling just to get by as a massage therapist with a wife and a baby on the way, while Efraim has found a way to make easy cash by exploiting the bureaucracy of the military.

The kids are heading back to school, it’s getting a touch cooler (the multiplex is still a great place to beat the heat), the superheroes have packed it in (for a couple of months), so are we ready to return to the Middle East, or at least the big conflicts in the sand? That’s how we started out the year, with Michael Bay’s Benghazi docudrama. Well, there were two little films that followed, set in that hostile local. Two “dramadies”, one fact, the other fiction, to be precise. Tom Hanks was a “fish-out-of-water” in Hologram For The King, while Tina Fey was a TV news reporter (based on a real person) in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Yes, this new flick is a comedy, or at least that’s what the near constant onslaught of trailers and TV spots have been hammering home for the last several months. Hey,...
