The Hague (the Netherlands), June 12 (Ians) Dutch soccer club Psv Eindhoven appointed Peter Bosz as their new head coach on Monday, with the 59-year-old Dutchman signing a three-year contract.
Bosz succeeds Ruud van Nistelrooy, who decided to step down by the end of May, “due to a lack of support within the club.”
Without Van Nistelrooy, Psv Eindhoven managed to secure second place in the Eredivisie, the Dutch top league, behind champions Feyenoord, with which Psv qualified for the preliminary round of the Champions League.
According to Psv’s director of football Earnest Stewart, Bosz was the “absolute dream candidate”. The former Dutch international is a coach known for the attacking style of play of his teams, reports news agency Xinhua.
As a head coach, Bosz was at the helm of Dutch Eredivisie clubs Vitesse, Heracles Almelo and Ajax.

The Hague, May 24 (Ians) With one round of matches remaining in this season’s Dutch Eredivisie, Psv Eindhoven head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy resigned on Wednesday, citing a lack of support.
Psv stated that the board of directors had had several discussions about internal affairs over the past few days and had a meeting with Van Nistelrooy on Tuesday evening. At that time it was decided, according to Psv, to keep the focus on the match against Az, with further talks to be held after the end of the season.
However, on Wednesday morning, Van Nistelrooy told the first-team squad and coaching staff that he would be stepping down with immediate effect, due to “a lack of support within the club”, a Xinhua report said.
At the request of the board, assistant coach Fred Rutten will now take charge against Az on Sunday in Alkmaar. Psv still needs one point...

London, May 1 (Ians) Erling Haaland has hit yet another incredible landmark after scoring a goal for Manchester City in a 2-1 win against Fulham as he equalling the record for the most goals (34) in a single Premier League season.
His 34th goal of the campaign moved Haaland to level with the record of Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole set in 1993/94 and 1994/95 respectively.
Impressively, Haaland reached the 34-goal mark in only his 30th appearance, while Cole needed 40 matches and Shearer 42.
The City striker’s penalty against Fulham saw him become the first Premier League player ever to score a half-century of goals in all competitions.
Haaland has reached the milestone in 44 games scoring 34 in the Premier League, 12 in the Champions League, three in the Fa Cup and one in the Carabao Cup.

Manchester (England), April 27 (Ians) Erling Haaland’s late goal in Manchester City’s 4-1 victory over Arsenal took him to 33 goals in the Premier League and extended his lead in the race for the Golden Boot.
With a goal in Wednesday’s game the Norwegian surpassed Mohammad Salah’s 38-game record, the Egyptian hit 32 in 2017/18.
Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer currently share the record across the entire Premier League era, scoring 34 in 1993/94 and 1994/95 respectively when the season comprised 42 matches.
With seven league games remaining, Haaland requires just two more goals to have the record outright.
Haaland’s form throughout his first campaign has been pivotal to the fortunes of Pep Guardiola’s side during the hunt for a fifth Premier League title in six seasons and third in a row.
He began the season with 18 goals in his first 13 Premier League appearances, including hat-tricks against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.

Manchester, April 12 (Ians) Manchester City took a big step towards the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League after their outstanding 3-0 win against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal tie.
It was another record-breaking day for Erling Haaland on Tuesday night as he scored his 45th goal of the season in all competitions, the most in history by a player at a Premier League club.
The Norwegian went past Mohamed Salah and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who have 44 goals. Both players achieved the feat in 52 appearances while Haaland has managed to create his milestone in just 39.
It took a stunning 25-yard left-footed shot from Rodrigo that flew into the top-left corner to break the deadlock on 27 minutes. Bernardo doubled the advantage with a thumping header on 69 minutes, powerfully meeting Erling Haaland’s cross from the left.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy is set to extend his current deal with the club by three-and-a-half years, BBC Sport has reported.
The England forward, who has been in fine form this season, is set to be rewarded with a much improved deal on his current £40,000-a-week contract.
In November he became the first player to score in 11 consecutive Premier League games, breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record previously set at 10.
Vardy’s form has pushed the Foxes to the top of the league, and put them in genuine contention for the title this season. A far cry from where they were12 months ago, as they held up the everyone else sitting rock bottom.
In February last year the bookies had Leicester at 10000/1 to claim the title, now they’re 8/1 joint third favourites.

There are few clubs that polarise opinion like Manchester United. Love them or loathe them, you can never ignore them. United have been one of the biggest clubs in the world for decades and are one of the best supported clubs in the world.
Naturally, a club of United’s stature are nearly always linked with players from all over the world.
For a club that has always looked to its youth ranks for talent, United have never been shy of bringing in star players. Even back in the 1960’s George Best and Bobby Charlton, graduates from the youth team were joined by Denis Law, whose transfer from Torino was a British record.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was a serial winner – the Scot won 38 trophies including 13 Premier League titles and two UEFA Champions League crowns throughout his 26 years at the club, and there aren’t too many instances of the venerable coach putting a foot wrong.
A big reason for his successes were the players he signed, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Eric Cantona and Ruud van Nistelrooy helping him win virtually every trophy worth winning in England and abroad. But while the United team sheet has boasted high quality, marquee names, it has also featured a few surprise faces over the years.
Did you know for example that George Best wasn’t the only Red Devil to suffer from alcoholism? Or that a certain Chelsea midfielder was once a United player in all but name, only for him to...

After Liverpool striker Luis Suarez disgraced himself yet again and confirmed his status as a vampire, by biting centre back Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder, in Uruguay’s 1-0 victory over Italy on Tuesday – the third fellow professional footballer he has bitten in his career, after Psv’s Otman Bakkal and Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic – we started thinking…
If Suarez is a vampire, which other classic horror monsters could have been hiding in full sight amongst football’s ranks over the years?
The world of football boasts a wide variety of characters whose looks, traits and performances resemble some of the classic antagonists in movie history – namely the Universal Monsters. The classic Universal Monsters date back to 1923 and the classic era went on (with the likes of Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney, Lon Chaney Jr and Bela Lugosi) until 1960, but there have been more additions to the monster roster since then.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will be hoping to join an elite group of players to have represented the Red Devils and won the World Cup when the tournament gets underway in Brazil.
As many as six current United stars could represent England at this summer’s tournament with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Danny Welbeck and Rooney named in Roy Hodgson’s provisional 23-man squad, with Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley on standby.
Meanwhile, Shinji Kagawa, Juan Mata, Javier Hernandez, Robin van Persie and Luis Nani will each represent Japan, Spain, Mexico, Holland and Portugal, respectively, at the finals.
And they too will be hoping to join Rooney in lifting the World Cup having also represented United, for in the 81 years since the first final, only five players in the history of the club have achieved this feat.

An increasing number of Premier League clubs are turning to the Championship as part of their recruitment strategy with England’s second tier proving itself the host to a deep pool of talent evidenced by the smooth transition made by Southampton trio Jay Rodriquez, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana in the last two seasons, to name just a few.
Newcastle’s reported interest in Ipswich left-back Aaron Cresswell seemingly indicates that we are going to follow in the footsteps of our top-flight rivals and dip our hands into same pool after three frugal years spent ploughing the fields of France in search of Gallic bargains. Well, here we go again. Silly season is almost upon us. The new television deal struck by the Premier League with BskyB and British Telecom is worth a barely believable £3.018 Billion over the next three seasons. An incredible 70% increase on the current deal.
Added into the mix, Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho are newly installed head coaches at perennial heavy spenders – Man City and Chelsea respectively. Both bosses will want to put a personal stamp on their respective squads but perhaps the most intriguing events will unfold at Old Trafford where the post Sir Alex Ferguson era begins.
Much has been speculated regarding who the current Premier League champions are going to sign, with a plethora of midfielders and a select few defenders linked in recent months. Since the announcement of David Moyes, it has been widely assumed that Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines would follow suit from the Toffees.

As we approach the business end of the season Sir Alex Ferguson and his team are once again hunting for a historical treble season. With United’s closest rivals seemingly too distracted by in-house bickering it looks in all likelihood that come May the premier league crown will reside in the already cramped trophy cabinet of Old Trafford. And with a slender away goal advantage against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champion’s League, this United team could go all the way to righting the wrongs of the previous Wembley Champion’s League final against Barcelona in 2011.
With this in mind, it’s only fair that we decide whether the current squad is better than the triumphant ’99 squad of Schmeichel, Keane and Beckham et al. Ferguson himself said as much recently, so here are five reasons why WhatCulture! thinks he’s right.

The Dutch Eredivisie has often served as one of Europe’s primary feeder leagues so it comes as no surprise that a number of Premier League clubs have chosen to do their 2012 Summer shopping in Holland. Brendan Rodgers, Andre Villas Boas and Alex Ferguson among others will be hoping that their most recent imports are a lot more Ruud van Nistelrooy than Afonso Alves.
Here are the five standouts that you should be looking out for this season:-

If opening weekend fixtures meant anything in the long term, the landscape of English football would make for dramatically different viewing. Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur would be fighting for survival, whilst Roberto Mancini engages in season-end mind games with grizzled managerial veteran Michael Laudrup. Of the top five teams in the Premier League, only Manchester City and Chelsea came out with any shred of respectability.
Given last year’s performances and subsequent transfer market tomfoolery, it was expected of Liverpool and Arsenal to fall at the first hurdle. Even the Avb-era Spurs are rebuilding with gaping holes still to fill. But whilst shrugs of mild amusement were Mexican waving around the country, an inferno was erupting at Goodison Park. Last year’s challengers, Manchester United – mere seconds from an unprecedented 20th league title – were not just being roasted on an open fire, but pouring themselves with additional lighter fluid.

According to a report from Ekstra Bladet Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner will leave the Premier League club and join a “top club” this summer. That’s the word offered by his agent Tom Brookes, who claims that Malaga and Galatasaray have both made offers for the 24-year-old Dane, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland.
“Nicklas is a top striker, who just proved himself at the Euros. I’m certain that he is going to end up at a top club, but I’m not going to be drawn into speculation.”
The Denmark international is surplus to requirements at The Emirates, after Arsene Wenger brought in both Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud plans and has been hotly tipped for a move away, despite having two years left to run on his current deal.

Unless you have been living under the sea, or more likely, unless you haven’t an interest in football, you couldn’t have failed to notice the celebrations of ’20 seasons in the Premier League’, a festival of voting for goals, managers, teams, celebrations, socks, grass, weather…
Manchester United have, without question, been the greatest team in Premier League history. Twelve titles (perhaps thirteen if you have stumbled across this from the future) amongst others go some way to proving that.
So in homage to the greatest ever Premier League Team, I have sought to try and pick their best ever Premier League XI, a debate that will rage on and on and on, to the point someone ends up in tears.
If you think I’ve got it wrong, prove it.

If there has been a better keeper in Premier League history, I’ll tell you that you are totally incorrect.

As tonight sees the launch of the brand new Big Brother, with a Celebrity version to kick off proceedings in its new position on Channel Five, I’ll be updating this post and blogging through the launch night events.
Late to the table (thanks to my house move somewhat annoyingly overlapping with the launch date), and already there are five sets of feet under the table.
So who’s in so far?
