Janine Herman (formerly Janine Bell Subia) has a BA in Film & Video
Production from Columbia College, Chicago and has worn many hats as:
producer, director, editor, still photographer and make-up artist.
With a License of Cosmetology from Vidal Sassoon Academy, Ms. Herman began her film career in Chicago, working as a make-up artist on the set of the Sydney Film Festival award winning feature film, Peoria Babylon for Montrose Pictures.
Additional work in Chicago includes still photography for The Prodigy, an Edward T. McDougal feature film and the producing, directing and editing of Industrial Blue for The Gap, Inc. As an editor for CCFA-Chicago, she created a series of commercial shorts. Among them are Video Dogs, Media Obsession, The Grave Decision and Fashion Columbia, a promotional film featuring fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger. She also produced and directed an independent short film, Until It's Gone.
Upon relocating to Los Angeles, Ms. Herman worked on the independent feature films, Amy's O for Sundance award winner, Julie Davis and The Big Day, for Callaway Pictures, starring Julianna Marguiles of The Good Wife and Ivan Sergei of The Opposite of Sex. Additionally, with partners Reyna Morenoff and Matthew Pestorius, Ms. Herman founded Vedauwoo Productions and produced the documentary feature film, Life...With A Side Of Fries.
Moving to New York in 1998, Ms. Herman joined the BRIC team and co-created the documentary style news program, Neighborhood Beat with Brooklyn Independent Television. The series highlights the history and culture of the unique neighborhoods in Brooklyn and the personalities and organizations that make them worthy of exploring. Ms. Herman directed and produced over 60 episodes.
