Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire premiered on March 29, 2024, as the most recent installment in the MonsterVerse franchise. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and is one of the installments with the lowest score, but fans are amazed as things stand now, and the box office earnings seem to confirm that. The movie surpassed expectations for its opening day and previews, and now that the first weekend is over, it has earned an amazing $194 million, landing the best opening weekend of the year, as well as breaking into the top ten list of highest-grossing movies after just one weekend.
The movie has just started its theatrical run, and to be frank, it is projected to become a box office hit. With the success of the movie, the MonsterVerse franchise also managed to hit past the $2-billion mark, becoming one of the most lucrative franchises in movie history.

Adam Wingard’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire picks up a few years after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, with the two eponymous titans keeping the peace by staying in their separate realms. Godzilla now busies himself protecting humanity from various threats, and napping in Rome’s Colosseum, while Kong jumps and swings around Hollow Earth, tearing apart critters and wistfully hoping to find other enormous apes like himself. Given the film’s title, their teaming up is an inevitability, but Godzilla x Kong takes its sweet time getting there, spending much of its first 90 minutes engaging in pointless, anticlimactic world-building in Hollow Earth and elaborating on the wisecrack-laden and cringe-inducing human drama above.
In Hollow Earth, Kong finally runs into a trio of angry apes nearly his size, along with a pesky young ape who’s trying to prove his toughness, though it’s not exactly the...

Adam Wingard, director of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is discussing possibly making a third film to complete the MonsterVerse trilogy.
“Only time will tell,” Wingard told Deadline during the film’s premiere. “I think the seductive thing as a filmmaker when you’ve done two movies is to complete it as this trilogy — that’s always what everybody expects.”
He continued, “We’ll see. It really depends on how the movie does. I think that there’s a lot of really cool ideas we have [about] where we would go with it. I’m open to it and excited for what the future brings.”

The fifth film in the Legendary Monsterverse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was once set to reach theatres and IMAX on March 15th, then it slid back to April 12th before recently being moved back up to March 29th. Hopefully they’ll stick with that date. It seems pretty certain that we’ll be seeing the movie very soon regardless, especially since it just happens to have received its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. FilmRatings.com reports that Godzilla x Kong has officially been rated PG-13 for creature violence and action. Exactly what we’ve been expecting from it.

"Your mountain is your ancestor." Madman Films has unveiled a first look teaser trailer for a New Zealand film called The Mountain, marking the feature directorial debut of New Zealand actress Rachel House (from Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Thor: Ragnarok and tons of other films). It's currently set to open in Nz this March, though it still doesn't have release dates set outside of the country. This looks great! I want to see it! The film explores the journey of three young people as they seek solace under the watchful gaze of the Taranaki mountain (aka "Taranaki Maunga" - see Google Maps) and companionship in the spirit of adventure. Starring Elizabeth Atkinson, Reuben Francis, and Terence Daniel. They are also joined by Troy Kingi (Muru), Byron Coll, Fern Sutherland, and Sukena Shah. There's just enough footage in this teaser to convince me this is a must watch film, with a similar vibe as Wilderpeople.

The explosive season finale of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters premiered today, but fans are left wondering whether or not Apple will renew the series for season 2.
Nothing has been officially announced yet, but Monarch: Legacy of Monsters showrunner Chris Black told TVLine earlier in the week that although “we do no have a season 2 order,” the show has “done very well, so we’re optimistic and excited. We feel we have more story to tell.” Fingers crossed.
“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch,” reads the official synopsis. “Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell...

Bong Joon-ho’s highly anticipated sci-fi movie Mickey 17 starring Robert Pattinson was originally slated to hit theaters this March, but Warner Bros. has pulled the film from the schedule. However, the release date was quickly filled by Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, with the MonsterVerse sequel jumping from April 12th to March 29th.
According to Deadline, the reason for Mickey 17‘s change is “due to shifts in production amidst last year’s strikes,” but a new release date should be announced soon. The new release date for Godzilla x Kong gives the film little competition, although it will hit theaters just a week after the release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

If you watched the trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, you likely noticed Kong wearing a mechanical gauntlet on his arm with no explanation given. So… what’s the deal with Kong’s new tech?
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard isn’t spilling any details about the King’s new bionic arm, but he did drop a few hints while speaking with Total Film. “It’s kind of hard to say too much more than that without spoiling anything, because he has one of my favourite intros of any character I’ve ever shot in my films,” Wingard said. “What I will say is I’d want to play with that [action figure] if I was a kid! And though Apex isn’t in this story in a literal way, we kind of hint that Monarch absorbed a lot of the Apex technology after the last film.

What’s Good: While the film falls short in various aspects, non-binary actor Kaimana’s portrayal of Jaiaya, a transgender center forward, stands out with compelling scenes and effective chemistry with Fassbender. The film’s rooting interest in the big finale, particularly for Jaiaya, adds some emotional engagement. Michael Fassbender shines briefly in the face of adversity, showcasing his acting prowess.
What’s Bad: The film is criticized for being poorly crafted and notably unfunny, attempting to narrate an intriguing story in an unengaging manner. The exaggerated cartoonish comedic elements clash with Fassbender’s stoic seriousness, diluting the film’s sincerity. The lack of individual development...

Legendary Entertainment’s MonsterVerse hit the ground running after launching in 2014 with Gareth Emery’s “Godzilla.” After quickly rolling out “Kong: Skull Island” and a “Godzilla” sequel, the cinematic universe wasted little time before unveiling the main event fans were waiting for: 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong.” And while the sprawling franchise has since expanded into TV with the Netflix anime “Skull Island” and the Apple TV+ drama “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” the adventures of King Kong and Godzilla are still the main attraction.
The two iconic monsters are set to share the big screen again in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” The film, which hits theaters in April 2024 and released its first trailer on December 3, sees King Kong and Godzilla putting their differences aside to take on a mysterious external threat to existence as they know it.

Behold! We have your first look at the biggest cinematic showdown of 2024. Warner Bros. and Legendary have released the first trailer for "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." This serves as a sequel to 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" and will end up as the fifth movie in the MonsterVerse franchise that kicked off in 2014 with Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla." As the title implies, this is no longer a "versus" situation between the two storied monsters — but a new threat has emerged that they are going to need to contend with.
The film once again sees Adam Wingard in the director's chair. What's interesting is that this is the first time a director has returned to the MonsterVerse, as every previous entry was helmed by someone different. Jordan Vogt-Robers directed "Kong: Skull Island," with Michael Dougherty taking on "Godzilla: King of the Monsters." So, what has Wingard cooked up for us this time?...

‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ – First Images Preview the Monster Team-Up You’ve Been Waiting For
Godzilla and King Kong are putting their differences aside next year in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and IGN has shared three first look images from the movie today.
In a chat with the site, director Adam Wingard teases the monster they’ll be teaming up to fight. He calls the new threat “a devilish, Kong-type character.”
Wingard previews, “We wanted to come up with an antagonist that would both be a match for Kong and Godzilla, and that’s really hard to do. There’s a lot more to this character and how he’s a threat, and that’s going to be something that’s going to be fun to kind of dole out.”
