This week's new release Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene features Dawood in a very prominent voice role. We don't see him on screen. But we hear his voice all through the plot. Now we have director Samir Karnik's underworld satire, Adaab, Dawood Ibrahim Bol Raha Hoon, a comedy about a cop played by Manoj Bajpayee and his protege played by Shaarib Hashmi (of Filmistan fame) who take it upon themselves to bring Dawood back to India. Significantly, Nikhil Advani's D Day last year was about a bunch of Indian intelligence officers who fly off to "get" Dawood. D Day actually showed Dawood on screen as the rotund Rishi Kapoor. Says Karnik, "In my film Aadaab, Dawood Ibrahim Bol Raha Hoon Manoj Bajpai and Shaarib Hashmi set out to nab Dawood. It's a wish-fulfillment story. We all want to get this man, don't we?" Adaab, Dawood Ibrahim Bol Raha Hoon...

It's been years now that veteran actor Anupam Kher has been embroiled in a battle with director Samir Karnik after the latter's cheques bounced. Now a while back, Kher took to twitter expressing his dissatisfaction about the matter saying, "Producer Sameer Karnik hasn't cleared my dues even after 2yrs. Made police complaint about bounced cheques 1yr back. Nothing has Happened." Later Kher added, "Goodness towards somebody who plays a victim, can be termed as your foolishness. Have been waiting for my dues for long. #SameerKarnik". However when contacted Samir Karnik refrained from saying much, "The matter is in court. We are awaiting the verdict. After all, the court rules are court rules. We will abide by that." But when we got in touch with Anupam Kher for further details on court proceeding regarding the case he added, "Sameer owes me more than Rs. 20 lakhs. I have given him more than 2 years for the same.

Here is yet another filmmaker who landed in trouble with the Service Tax Department after Samir Karnik. Anurag Kashyap is the next on the list for service tax evasion. News is that, the filmmaker will now have to return to Mumbai, leaving the shoot of his upcoming film Bombay Velvet in Sri Lanka by September 3. Apparently, a team from the Service Tax Department carried out an investigation at the filmmaker's Yari road office in Mumbai in August and later charged him guilty for service tax evasion of Rs. 55 lakh. Based on this, the director/producer was asked to appear before the Service Tax Department on August 22, but he failed to do so and instead, sent his representatives to deal with the matter. Hence, his accounts were sealed and now Anurag has requested for some time till September 3. Deputy Commissioner of Service Tax Department, Sameer Wankhede also revealed that a case...

The South influx into Bollywood has gathered momentum. After Dhanush's successful Hindi debut in Aanand Rai's Raanjhanaa and Ramcharan's Zanjeer that opens in September, it would be the turn of Ramcharan's nearest rival in Hyderabad, Ravi Teja. Ravi Teja would debut in a double role in Samir Karnik's Kaur & Singh. The film would be an action-comedy (Ravi Teja's forte) in Hindi and Telugu. The Telugu version of the film would be entitled Laxmi Reddy. Confirming these developments, director Samir Karnik says, "Ravi has done a very successful double role in Vikramarkudu, the Telugu version of Rowdy Rathore. We wanted to take his image to another level." While Karnik refuses to reveal any more, we gather that Ravi Teja plays two brothers in Kaur & Singh. One of them is a con-man who constantly gets the good brother into trouble. Says Karnik, "I promise you, Ravi Teja will...

Starring Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt, Juhi Chawla, Tanuja, Mukul Dev, Vindoo Dara Singh
Directed by Ashwani Dhir
Every time Vindoo Dara Singh who plays a part of an extended patriarchal Punjabi parivaar in the Sikh heartland, opens his mouth to speak, he is shushed down by others saying, ‘Silencer lagaa’.
By God, at times you feel this loud, flamboyant, ostentatious yet – all right, admit it – sinfully engaging film should just pipe down. There is so much that’s noisy about this film. And we aren’t talking about Sandeep Chowta’s over-accented background score. Yet it’s never unpleasant noise.
Son Of Sardaar takes us straightaway into the core of a family feud in Punjab where Sanjay Dutt, playing a goofy oddball of a Punjabi patriarch as only he can, wants our affable Sardarji Ajay Devgn dead to fulfil an ancestral vendetta.
Let me warn you right away...

Tusshar Kapoor would surely like to forget the bad memories associated with his film Chaar Din Ki Chandni directed by Samir Karnik. Even though Tusshar did an earnest job in the film, the experience of working with Samir is something the actor wouldn't want to repeat again.
It may be recalled that Tusshar had earlier filed a case against Samir Karnik for non-payment of Rs. 1.75 crore which he had given him as a loan to promote the film. Now it seems the actor finds himself in another mess as a cheque of Rs. 36 lakhs given to him by as part payment of his remuneration has also bounced.
The actor is left with no option but to once again take legal action against Samir Karnik. He has even lodged a complaint against the filmmaker at the Cine Artistes Association.

The sequel to 2011's super hit comedy Yamla Pagla Deewana starring the Deols is all set to go on floors this year, but instead of Samir Karnik, the sequel will be directed by Sangeeth Sivan.
Sangeeth Sivan has earlier worked with Sunny Deol in Zor and Bobby in Ek-The Power Of One, so when he was asked by the Deols if he would be interested in doing the sequel to Yamla Pagla Deewana, Sivan immediately agreed. The sequel will retain the old characters but will have a completely different story.
Apart from Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, Sangeeth is also working with Bobby and Dharamendra in film called Cheers, which is a beautiful story of a father and son. Cheers will go on floors after Yamla Pagla Deewana is complete.

Filmmaker Samir Karnik's last film Chaar din Ki Chandni seems to have brought him a lot of attention. And not for the right reasons. Firstly the film was rated zero by a critic which made the filmmaker not too happy. And now, Samir has been accused of harassment and not honoring a film commitment by singer Anaya Brahma. In fact, Anaya had filed a non-cognizable report at Oshiwara police station.

I was extremely wary of watching this movie. Except for a couple of trailers and songs, the only little information I had was that it’s Tusshar Kapoor’s solo-hero project. That limited knowledge did not warrant for a theatre watch. The makers had not succumbed to marketing gimmicks, the films promotional appearances were far and few. Samir Karnik’s whose last flick Yamla Pagala Deewana was a moderately successful yet ludicrous outing; banking on Deol strength, returns with a similar feel sticking to the familiar recipe.

For those who enjoyed Anubhav Sinha's 2005 sleeper-hit, the global crime thriller Dus, there is news. Dus producer Nitin Manmohan has decided to make a sequel. However, Dus 2 won't be directed by Sinha, but by Samir Karnik instead. Apparently, producer Nitin Manmohan who has been on the look-out for an appropriate director to make the Dus sequel broached the subject with Karnik when they were shooting Yamla Pagla Deewana, the film that Nitin Manmohan produced and Karnik directed. The fast-paced 2005 espionage thriller had starred Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Suniel Shetty, Zayed Khan, Pankaj Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty. The sequel which begins shooting at year-end would have most of the original cast returning for an enthusiastic encore, barring obviously mother-to-be Shilpa Shetty who, we hear, will be replaced by Deepika Padukone,...

One of the highlights of Samir Karnik's forthcoming film Chaar Din Ki Chandni about love, courtship, ched-chaad, shaadi naach-gana and band-baaja-baraat is a remixed version of the title song from Yash Chopra's 1989 romantic blockbuster Chandni. 'Chandni O Meri Chandni ' was sung by Sridevi and Jolly Mukherjee, and filmed on 'Chandni' Sridevi and her screen-suitor Rishi Kapoor. It went on to become a runaway hit. Now, in what appears to be a master-stroke of nostalgic homage, director Karnik has managed to get the original Chandni pair Sridevi and Rishi Kapoor to release the music of Chaar Din Ki Chandni at a suburban hotel in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. Rishi and Sridevi who were paired in the blockbusters Nagina and Chandni have not come together since they were paired last in the flop Kaun Sacha Kaun Jhootha in 1997.
