2023 marks another year where the Academy Awards have shuttered horror from the competition, but genre fans know better than to expect anything less. Although there have always been exceptions in the past, such as "The Exorcist," "The Fly," and "Get Out," the Oscars' track record speaks for itself. But the truth is that horror folks don't really need the attention of the prestigious awards body when they have a better outlet to see their favorites receive some industry recognition.
If you're a horror nerd, then the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards is where you want to be paying attention. Although the famed magazine started this back in the '90s, it's only been in the past few years that they've started making it a yearly tradition. On top of that, the one-hour ceremony, which usually airs on Shudder, is curated for horror folks by horror folks. Where else are you going to...

Exclusive: Deadline has your first look at Six Days to Die, the second film in a sci-fi western trilogy series by Matt Campagna, which he wrote, directed, shot and edited.
The film brought to life through virtual environments, comprised of elaborate 360-degree digital matte paintings, centers on a desperate gambler wrongfully accused of murder who flees through a post-apocalyptic frontier, with a vengeful Marshal doggedly hunting him down, on a bloody quest to bring order to the chaos.
The Umbrella Academy’s Colm Feore stars alongside Darryl Hinds, Melissa D’Agostino, Ari Millen and Kyra Harper. Breann Smordin and Elizabeth Frase produced the pic, which is eyeing a festival premiere next year, and is being sold worldwide by Forward Motion Entertainment. The third film in the trilogy series, Six Guns For Hire, is currently in post-production.
Check out the first still from Campagna’s latest, along with several character portraits, below.

Originally released in 2018, as far as I know All The Creatures Were Stirring is the second ever Christmas horror anthology movie, with the first being the highly entertaining A Christmas Horror Story.
This one has five segments and one encompassing segment which begins and ends the film as well as linking each other segment. In this we see a man and woman who are kind of on a date at a local theatre. They meet outside and once inside are introduced to a couple of strange characters until they are eventually seated to watch the show. The first part of the show then leads into the opening segment The Stockings Are Hung.

Featuring original songs from imaginary bands, Sean Keller's The Killer Sounds of Halloween is adding spooky sounds to the Halloween season. Patrick Bromley recently interviewed Keller about his autumnal mixtape, and we now have a look at a new music video for one of the mixtape's tracks, "The Monsters Trick or Treat," directed by Megan Duffy (who recently helmed the killer bride short film Seeing Green).
Directed and edited by Megan Duffy, and starring Sean Keller, John Stiens, and Mike Mendez, The Monsters Trick or Treat is an imagined sequel to the "Monster Mash" and the music video is their homage to Bobby Pickett. The video stars Keller, horror director Mike Mendez, and voiceover actor John Stiens (who also voices all the creatures on the track). Makeup is by Ally McGillicuddy with costumes by Kristin Parker. While aware that there is another Maniac review here on Nerdly, I felt the urge to review it myself after sitting down with the movie for the second time and being filled with the need to unleash words.
The original Maniac hit our screens in 1980 with Joe Spinell sludging up our televisions with his disturbingly dirty portrayal of Frank, the scalp obsessed nut-job with a heart of mould. It was a great horror movie with a fantastic lead performance and top notch gore courtesy of the maestro of visceral explosions, Tom Savini, who also has a small but memorable part in the original film.

Horror movie updates are nothing new in Hollywood, and typically offer nothing new either aside from a carbon copy cinematic experience. And while Maniac, a remake of the 1980 cut classic, still tells the story of a sociopathic mannequin shop owner and his penchant for scalping beautiful women, the approach is so entirely unique, it's as if you’re seeing a wholly new film.
Shot entirely from the perspective of our killer, 2013's Maniac puts you, quite literally, in the killer's shoes, making some of the more malevolent scenes hard to watch for entirely new reasons. The experience is not only exciting for fans, but also for the actors themselves as co=star Megan Duffy recounted to ETonline.

Title: Maniac Director: Starring: Elijah Wood, Nora Arnezeder (‘Safe House,’ ‘The Words’) and Megan Duffy (TV’s ‘Mad Men,’ ‘Criminal Minds’) Instinctively creating sympathy for a seemingly deranged killer who commits horrific, violent crimes against women is not an easy job many people would rightfully consider taking. That task is even more difficult when it’s done through the reimagination of a famed cult horror thriller. But horror director Franck Fhalfoun did both with ‘Maniac,’ the new independent remake of the hit 1980 film of the same name by helmer William Lustig. Not only did Fhalfoun captivatingly and uniquely chronicle the emotions of a crazed serial killer through his point of view, [ Read More ]

It's not often that a remake can successfully capture the spirit & tone of the original, yet bring something new & unique to warrant a different interpretation of the same story in the first place, but in the case of 'Maniac,' director Franck Khalfoun and producer Alexandre Aja did just that. 'Maniac' is not only a technical achievement, but one of the rare horror movies that serves as a great companion piece to its source material and quite frankly would make for a fine double feature with the original. While lead Elijah Wood (as Frank) makes his presence known through out the entire duration of the movie despite barely being on screen, it's equally important that we feel just as strongly for his victims as well. And one of the more prominent in this new movie is Lucie played by Megan Duffy. FEARnet had the opportunity to sit...

And Elijah Wood ('Sin City') used to be such a nice guy! Wood's bad guy turn is ever present in the latest new clip from Franck Khalfoun's ('P2') remake of classic 80's slasher feature 'Maniac'. Wood plays Frank Zito the twisted store owner who gets his kicks from preying on innocent sexy young women one of whom is Lucie, played by Megan Duffy (below), who unfortunately gets more than a good time when she tries for a night of passion with our unsettling little Frank. Nora Arnezeder ('Safe House'), America Olivo ('Bitch Slap', 'No One Lives'), Genevieve Alexandra and Liane Balaban all co-star in the movie hitting UK theatres this March. Check out the new Nsfw clip below....

You've seen the first six minutes of Maniac, now how about a 2 1/2-minute kill clip from the remake of the 1980s William Lustig film? We have the not safe for work (by any means) preview for you after the jump.
In the clip, Frank (played by Elijah Wood) is taken home by Lucie (Megan Duffy) on their first date and things go, well, bad. Let's just say Frank does what he does best (to a very familiar song, too).
While this remake, directed by Franck Khalfoun, is now out overseas, we're still awaiting a release date for its U.S. debut from IFC.

Although Liz Lemon's wedding wasn't the magical moment that most girls dream of as kids, it was a part of one of the funniest episodes in 30 Rock's final season. That has to be worth something, right?
Highlighted by appearances from Dennis Duffy and Dr. Spaceman, "Mazel Tov Dummies!" used guest performers to its advantage, while letting Tracy Morgan simply do his thing.
While it wasn't the main focus, Tracy's story led in laughs as he made fun of Dot Com, got depressed about being healthy and responsible and then had a conversation with Jack Harriet Tubman in his mind.
I'm not sure which was funnier: Tray brushing his teeth, putting on sunscreen, thinking Harriet Tubman surfed around the world or the fact that he couldn't think of Jack Donaghy's name (Jim Dennison).
Dean Winters, Chris Parnell and James Marsden all added to the enjoyment of this very special wedding episode,...

The original was good, the remake is a milestone. Well, not bad description at all! We have another poster and some new images from the upcoming Maniac movie, and I’m sure you’re going to enjoy. If you’re a sadist or something like that, ’cause Elijah Wood is one sick bastard in these pics. Frodo Baggins gone crazy, for sure!
So, as you already know, the movie comes from director Franck Khalfoun and is actually a remake of William Lustig‘s brutal 1980 film of the same name.
Alexandre Aja stands behind the script which, this time, centers on a guy named Frank, who develops a dangerous obsession with a young artist.
Now imagine Elijah Wood as Frank, and Nora Arnezeder as that young artist named Anna. Their friendship looks almost perfect…

Maniac
Stars: Elijah Wood, Nora Arnezeder, Liane Balaban, Morganne Slemp, Genevieve Alexandra, America Olivo, Sammi Rotibi, Sal Landi, Dan Hunter, Megan Duffy | Written by Alexander Aja, Gregory Levasseur | Directed by Franck Khalfoun
After helming remakes of The Hills Have Eyes and Piranha, the gang behind the “trapped in a parking lot with a psycho” film P2 reunite for yet another remake of a 70s horror movie, this time the notorious video nasty starring Joe Spinelli and directed by William Lustig - Maniac. Only this time it’s Frodo’s turn to go on a homicidal trip!
Yes, everyone’s favourite hobbit Elijah Wood steps into the shoes of Joe Spinelli as the deranged Frank, owner of a quasi-abandoned mannequin store and all-round creepy dude who, to the outside world, seems like a typical loner. However Frank has issues, lots of them – migraines, hallucinations, strange Ocd-like compulsions – this is a man...
