Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist concluded their whirlwind romance Thursday night the same way it began, live on national television.
The inaugural Golden Bachelor couple said “I do” in front of 150 guests (and all those watching at home) at the La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, California. Deadline was invited, along with select other press, to attend the Golden Wedding in person.
While much of the production made it to the live show, there was also plenty that went on behind the scenes to pull off the event. Although the cameras started rolling at 5 p.m. Pt, guests began arriving around 4 p.m. to check in and get ready to walk the golden carpet to the pre-ceremony cocktail hour.

Inside ‘The Golden Bachelor’ Wedding: Unaired Speeches, Guest Warnings and More You Didn’t See on TV
Bachelor Nation knows a thing or two about a wedding special. They’ve been able to pull it off effortlessly through the years — from Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter’s 2003 nuptials to the most recent “I do” between Kenny Braasch and Mari Pepin, which aired as a part of this season’s “Bachelor in Paradise.”
However, the last time a wedding special aired live was when Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici married in 2014. Ten years later, “The Golden Bachelor” couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist did just that — with all the above individuals in attendance — at the La Quinta Resort and Club just outside Palm Springs, Calif.
Variety, along with a select few other reporters, attended the ceremony and the reception. The special aired on ABC from 8-10 p.m. Et, but guests began arriving (and actually checking in at an event table) about an hour beforehand. To be fair,...

“The Golden Bachelor” Gerry Turner officially tied the knot with his final rose pick, Theresa Nist, Thursday, and the live broadcast of the couple’s nuptials certainly threw “Bachelor” Nation some curveballs.
The biggest shocker was certainly Brayden Bower’s surprise proposal to “The Bachelor” alum Christina Mandrell, days ahead of the pair moving in together and just over a month after they revealed their relationship to the world.
Wedding bells are also ringing for former “Bachelorette” Charity Lawson and her fiancé Dotun Olubeko, as the pair shared they plans to get married in fall 2025.
Still, as the women from the inaugural season of “The Golden Bachelor” showed up to celebrate the couple — including officiant Susan Noles, golden carpet correspondent Kathy Swarts, guests Faith Martin, Joan Vassos and Sandra Mason, among others — the ladies kept the shenanigans going, leading to several entertaining moments.

It’s official: The first-ever Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner, is engaged! His wedding is imminent, on the heels of his surprise proposal to Theresa Nist, as news broke live in tonight’s season finale that The Golden Wedding will air live on ABC on January 4, 2024 at 8/7c.
While Turner’s wedding will be the first presented as an ABC special in quite a while, it’s certainly not the first in Bachelor history. While since divorced, Evan Bass and Carly Waddell were the latest couple to go that route back in 2017.

The hug jump is a move that has many names in The Bachelor franchise, but fans know it when they see it. This greeting has become a kind of tradition in the franchise and even a bit of a joke. But where did it all begin? And what have former contestants and leads on the show said about the hug jump? Let’s take a look.
Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo | Rodrigo Varela/Disney General Entertainment Content via Getty Images Who did the first hug jump in ‘The Bachelor’ franchise?
The hug jump doesn’t have an official name in the Bachelor franchise, but it’s made its way into pop culture over the years. Heather McDonald, host of the pop culture podcast “Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald,” refers to this move as the “toddler jump.” Years ago, she demonstrated the move with former Bachelor Nick Viall.
So when did the hug jump begin?...

As the first Bachelorette, Trista Sutter revealed that she wouldn’t have said yes to Ryan Sutter if she didn’t truly believe that he was “the one.”

“I do,” she told Showbiz Cheat Sheet about finding love on TV. “We met through the show, but it’s what we did with our relationship after the show that really mattered. And I think that still holds true. As long as you are on the same page and that’s what you want out of the show, then it definitely is achievable if you. Just by prioritizing the relationship.”

Not many kids have parents who met on a reality television show like The Bachelorette. But Ryan and Trista Sutter’s teen kids, Maxwell and Blakesley know that their mom and dad are two of the most famous couples from The Bachelorette, which doesn’t exactly impress them.
“I know my son could care less,” Trista told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “I mean, probably both of them are kind of like ‘it’s weird.’ Like you don’t even want to think about how your parents met.”

My daughter is a little more interested in the show aspect of it,” Trista said. “Like we watched Gabby and Rachel’s season together, it was our first kind of time watching.

Hot & Spicy Balls” – that’s the charming title of the first episode of the new Hulu dating series Hotties. Two couples, each on a blind date, are asked to cook (meat)balls in a cramped food truck parked in the baking California desert. While they’re at it, the couples ingest increasingly spicy foods so red-hot that one contestant actually vomits. “This isn’t just another dating show or a cooking competition,” boasts the host, as though she has some secret reason to believe I am sick of those things. “We Frankenstein-ed them together to create a brand-new beast.” Who says romance is dead?

List of Bachelorette couples that are still together. Pic credit: @therachellindsay/Instagram
The Bachelorette has been around for close to a decade.
The premise is the same every season, one woman goes on the Bachelor to find the love of her life. She gets rejected and sometimes cries ugly tears in the limo back to the airport.
Although she didn’t win the Bachelor’s heart, she often wins America’s heart, placing her in the best position to become the next Bachelorette.
Out of heartbreak is born the opportunity to be in control and be the one to hand out the roses. She is then given six weeks to find the man she will marry.
Some people have found lasting love on the show, saying that it’s like going to a love boot camp.
There are no distractions whatsoever and the contestants can truly concentrate on getting to know one another.

This past year, “The Bachelor” endured a heavy dose of controversy, the type of drama that even reality TV producers can’t make up — and certainly don’t want to deal with. And yet, the franchise has done what no other dating series has done, crossing its 20-year mark on the air.
With 26 seasons of the flagship, 19 seasons of “The Bachelorette,” eight seasons of “Bachelor in Paradise” and numerous spinoffs to date, ABC’s dating franchise isn’t going anywhere. With an international fanbase that considers “The Bachelor” to be a way of life more than a TV show, it’s entirely possible that viewers will still be watching in 20 more years.
Copycats have tried to mirror the formula. Most have failed. Turns out, the simple fairytale of limos, roses, extravagant jet-setting, tears and heartbreak isn’t so easy to replicate, as no new network hits have broken through in recent memory.

Bachelor Nation's Trista Sutter is pulling back the curtain on her family's situation. The reality TV personality, who became the first-ever Bachelorette star in 2003 and married contestant Ryan Sutter later that year, opened up about her husband's recent Lyme disease diagnosis. Just last month, the couple finally received answers about Ryan's year-long health battle after he previously told his Instagram followers that he was suffering from a mystery illness. Speaking to Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti on their Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast, Trista discussed how she's been coping with her husband's diagnosis. "It's...

After months of uncertainty, Trista and Ryan Sutter finally have some answers about his health. During the May 25 episode of her podcast Better Etc., the former Bachelorette and her husband shared he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease. "It's been hard," Trista said while looking back at their path to Ryan's diagnosis. "It's a really difficult thing to see the person that you love most in this world struggling. And he's a big strong guy, and to see him get emotional and feel helpless in a way in that all I could do was really advocate for him. So, that's what I did." While Trista informed her followers of Ryan's medical journey in November, her...

Ryan Sutter knows the power of resiliency. Just last month, Bachelor Nation was surprised to learn The Bachelorette alum was struggling with a mystery illness. And as 2020 comes to a close, the 46-year-old firefighter is opening up about the greatest lessons he's learned as he continues his search for answers. "I pushed myself to develop a mindset that would not give up, give in or give off any sign of weakness," Ryan explained in an Instagram posted on Tuesday, Dec. 29. "I did this mostly on my own, choosing solitude as my practice ground. Though I had breakdowns, few ever saw them. Mostly I internalized difficulty and distracted myself from its presence through physical exertion. It...

You know what they say, if at first you don't succeed... After Becca Kufrin's split from fiancé Garrett Yrigoyen this summer, Bachelor Nation fans did what they are wont to do: wonder if the season 14 lead would ever return to star on The Bachelorette. She's not the first Bachelor franchise alum to become a lead of interest after the relationship they entered into the show didn't result in happily ever after. They can't all be Sean Lowe and Catherine Guidice, Trista and Ryan Sutter or Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo. But which former stars or contestants would we actually want to see take another televised shot at finding love—and, perhaps more importantly, which ones...

This may be a tough one for some fans to believe, but it’s been nearly 20 years since The Bachelor aired its first episode in 2002. When Trista Sutter decided to sign up to be a contestant during season one, she had no way of knowing what she was getting herself into. Although she didn’t find love on the show, she went on to become the first Bachelorette. Thanks to the show, she met her now husband, Ryan Sutter, and the two have been married since 2003 and have two children together. Recently, Trista shared that Ryan has been suffering

Bachelor Nation's Trista and Ryan Sutter Celebrate 17th Anniversary as He Battles Mysterious Illness
The Bachelorette's first star Trista Sutter and husband Ryan Sutter are celebrating their 17th anniversary with sweet online tributes, as he continues to fight a mysterious, undiagnosed illness. On Sunday, Dec. 6, Trista, 48, shared on her Instagram page a photo of her 46-year-old partner at their 2013 wedding, which was televised as part of a multi-part Bachelorette special. She wrote, "More handsome today than he was on this day 17 years ago, but not only because I see him through the eyes of the mother of his children. Because he continually works to better himself...and us." Trista and Ryan share two children—son Maxwell Alston Sutter, 13,...

Ryan Sutter wants Bachelor Nation fans to know he's feeling thankful for everyone's support. It's been only a few days since Trista Sutter shared that her husband, who she met and fell in love with on season one of The Bachelorette, was battling a mystery illness. Following Trista's announcement, Ryan took to Instagram Stories to express his gratitude for the uplifting messages he's received. Trista Sutter is looking for answers. While The Bachelorette alum is trying to enjoy the holiday season, a mystery continues to surround her family: Why is Ryan Sutter, 46, not feeling his best? "I'm struggling," Trista, 48, shared through Instagram on Nov. 28 with a photo of her husband. "This guy...my rock, my best friend, my hero, my love...is struggling. Not everyday, and not to the point that he can't work or cook or exercise or be with family, but enough. We've been struggling for months. Struggling to get answers." “The Bachelorette” debuted in 2003 and, after a brief three-year hiatus early on, has been going strong ever since. Like so strong that it has a better track record than “The Bachelor” does when it comes to finding everlasting love.
Og Bachelorette Trista Rehn set the bar high when she tied the knot with her winner, Ryan Sutter, in 2003, and the couple is still together, with two kids. Since then, three more leading ladies have said “I do” to their chosen guys, including Rachel Lindsay, the franchise’s first Black lead. One pair, Ashley Hebert and Jp Rosenbaum, has since separated.

Two other “Bachelorette” couples are engaged at the moment, including Clare Crawley, the first lead of Season 16 who fell head over heels for Dale Moss when she locked eyes on him, calling him her “husband.

It's been almost 17 years since Trista Sutter and Ryan Sutter tied the knot in a televised ceremony. However, the original Bachelorette still remembers her wedding like it was yesterday. The season one star looked back at the major moment during the Nov. 10 episode of the LadyGang podcast. While the event seemed like something out of a fairy tale, Trista revealed it wasn't all rosy. Like many couples, Trista and Ryan experienced their fair share of pre-wedding stress. It also didn't help that they were being followed by cameras and that her runner-up Charlie Maher basically served as the host of the wedding, which she now admits was "a little...

Nearly two decades ago, Trista Sutter was the runner-up on the first season of “The Bachelor,” a new reality show that would go on to become one of the most successful franchises in television history.
Little did Sutter — then, Trista Rehn — know, she would become the very first star of “The Bachelorette,” ABC’s first spinoff of the mega franchise. And little did she know, she would also meet her husband on a reality dating show.
“The Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” ends each season with a proposal and engagement, but more often than not, the TV couples call it quits a few years, or months, later. And yet, the original “Bachelorette” couple is still together. Ryan Sutter was one of Rehn’s 25 contestants who fought to win her heart, and 17 years later, the couple is happily married with two children.

Say goodbye to the Bachelor Mansion for now. After having been put on hold since March due to the coronavirus pandemic, Season 16 of “The Bachelorette,” starring Clare Crawley, is set to start production shortly in a new isolated location — and it may be this place.
Last week, “Variety” reported that the show will film in Southern California instead of its usual locale of Los Angeles County. Reality Steve has since unearthed the Ritz-Carlton in Rancho Mirage, outside of Palm Springs, as the location, noting that the resort’s booking calendar has been blocked off between June 26 and Aug. 27. The spoiler guru, of course, was the first to report way back in April about the show’s new game plan to film the season over five weeks in July and August in a closed-off location with Covid-19 testing and no travel.
“Obviously plans can change, maybe stuff gets pushed back, but...

While it's probably going to be a while before we have new Bachelor content, ABC is coming through this summer with The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons Ever!. As the franchise is getting attention off screen for its issues with diversity, it's also airing a limited series revisiting some of the franchise's most popular and attention-grabbing seasons. So what can we expect from this greatest-hits show? We've got all the details right here.
The show is scheduled to run for 10 weeks, airing on Mondays throughout the summer and spanning ABC's entire, three-hour primetime block for each of those nights. Which seasons will be included, though? That's a question that's still a little bit mysterious. Officially, only the first three episodes of the 10 have been announced. The June 8 premiere recapped Sean Lowe's season of The Bachelor from 2013 - an unsurprising choice to launch the retrospectives, since Sean remains the only Bachelor...

With Peter Weber's season of The Bachelor ending with another broken engagement, we're wondering at this point when the last successful Bachelor franchise proposal was. Thinking backward, Hannah Brown broke up with Jed Wyatt shortly after he proposed, and Colton Underwood's finale was derailed when Cassie Randolph left the show (they later reconciled). In fact, the last few seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette have ended so unconventionally that to find a season that actually ended with the final couple getting engaged and staying together, we have to look back quite a few years.
There has only been one Bachelor who has actually married the woman he proposed to at the final rose ceremony. We have to go all the way back to 2013's season 17, which starred Sean Lowe as the Bachelor. At the end of his season, he proposed to Catherine Giudici, and they got married...

The Bachelor producers don’t want any more trouble in paradise … or Vermont.
A source confirms to People that staff monitored the alcohol intake of contestants on the upcoming Olympic-themed spinoff, The Bachelor Winter Games, enforcing the same “two drink per hour maximum” created for Bachelor in Paradise participants last summer after the production shutdown spurred by Corinne Olympios and DeMario Jackson‘s sex scandal.
Producers also made sure none of the Winter Games stars drank too much before participating in the competitions — which mirror Olympic sports such as ice dancing and skiing — for their safety.
