Won an OBIE award in 1996 for his orchestrations for Floyd Collins. He has also been nominated for New York's Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Orchestrations 10 times: for First Daughter Suite, Giant, 9 to 5, Grey Gardens, The Light in the Piazza, Urinetown the Musical, The Sound of Music, See What I Wanna See, The Burn Part Boys and Floyd Collins. He won the Drama Desk Award with collaborators Ted Sperling and Adam Guettel in 2005 for The Light in the PIazza.
