- The son of Pal's trainer, Rudd Weatherwax, said his father was very affected upon the death of Pal in 1958. "It hit him very hard when Pal died. He buried him in a special place on the ranch and would often visit the grave. Dad would never again watch an MGM Lassie movie. He just couldn't bear to see Pal. He didn't want to have to be reminded of just how much he loved that dog".
- After playing the original Lassie in Lassie Come Home (1943), Pal was cast in the follow-up, Son of Lassie (1945). He was cast as the title character, however, and another dog played Lassie.
- Almost all dogs in the subsequent "Lassie" films and television series have been descendants of Pal. The dog who played Lassie for the first half of season 2 of the TV series Lassie (1997) and the dog who played Lassie in Lassie (2005) were not.
- The first dog to play the heroine "Lassie", although he actually was a male dog, not a bitch.
