[This story contains mild spoilers from season two, episode six of Loot.]
Maya Rudolph’s Loot is as much about a woman coming into her own identity post-divorce as it is an office comedy, thanks to the characters at Molly Novak’s (Rudolph) charitable organization, The Wells Foundation.
When Molly, the ex-wife of tech giant John Novak (Adam Scott), puts all of her energy into philanthropic efforts, she eventually forms an unlikely friendship with the no-nonsense executive director of the foundation, Sofia Salinas (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez), and grows closer to her employee cousin Howard (Ron Funches). And she unexpectedly develops feelings for another member of the staff, single dad Arthur (Nat Faxon).
In season two of the Apple TV+ series, the personal lives of these characters come more into view as Sofia reluctantly lets her guard down (and breaks a personal-professional boundary by engaging in a romance with a contractor, played by O-t Fagbenle), and Howard, Arthur and Molly’s assistant...

Apple TV+ has revealed the first teaser-trailer for “Presumed Innocent” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, from Emmy-winning creator David E. Kelley.
Gyllenhaal narrates the trailer as Rusty Sabich, a man seemingly consumed by his love for a woman named Carolyn (Renate Reinsve). “She woke something up inside me,” he says as the footage cuts between his time with her and images of cars and courtrooms and arguments — clearly invoking a darker twist in this alleged romance. Carolyn, it turns out, has been murdered and, given their history, Rusty is the prime suspect.
What the trailer leaves out is extra juicy: Rusty and Carolyn were coworkers and prosecutors, and the suspected crime sends waves through the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office as they mourn a colleague, reel from an affair, and pursue a murder investigation — to say nothing of how it affects Rusty’s marriage and home life.
The rest of the cast includes Ruth Negga,...

Ray Winstone joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play the villainous Dreykov in the 2021 tentpole “Black Widow,” led by Scarlett Johansson in the title role. The actor had a decent enough time making the movie. But the same can’t be said for coming back for Marvel reshoots.
“It was fine until you have to do the reshoots,” Winstone recently told Radio Times. “Then you find out that a few producers have come down and your performance is too much, it’s too strong…That’s the way Marvel works. It can be soul-destroying because you feel like you’re doing great work.”
While Winstone reluctantly participated in the “Black Window” reshoots, it appears his main reason for doing so were contractual.

We’re learning more about the upcoming sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
The final chapter of the Emmy-winning Hulu series originally was to begin production in 2023 for a fall 2024 premiere, but that schedule, of course, was delayed by the strikes. In an interview with Deadline, Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich, who oversees content for Hulu Originals, said the sixth season now is set to begin production this summer for premiere in 2025. The series was renewed for its sixth and final season in September 2022, just ahead of its Season 5 premiere.
Season 5 follows June (Elisabeth Moss) in the aftermath of Commander Waterford’s (Joseph Fiennes) murder and the consequences she must face for her role in the gruesome slaying. At a minimum, she will have to face off with his widow Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), and on some level Gilead. But mainly, she will be forced to redefine her identity and purpose,...

In the wake of the strikes and due to their popularity with stars and viewers, we expect a lot more limited series as time goes on. The talent they attract promises us the very best of the entertainment world at every level.
But all the news today isn't by way of a limited series. One of TV's hottest programs just cast one of its most significant franchise characters.
One of the biggest shows on TV has scooped one of the most respected young actresses of her generation.

The immediate flaw in any attempt to stack the twelve extant Harlan Coben TV thrillers in order of greatness is that none of them are exactly great. Pretty much all of them though, are compulsive viewing and will pull you through a bucking and twisting story at the speed of a beagle on the scent of a nearby sausage. They’re packed with incident and revelations, and are generally performed by a charismatic cast so big that you’ll never quite meet them all, let alone tire of their company. Binge-watches par excellence, each one of these series is precision-designed to be gulped down in very few bites.
As these stories all shop for plot in the same aisle, chances are that if you enjoy one Harlan Coben thriller, you’ll enjoy the others. They’re all filled with cliff-hangers, twists, secret identities, surprise resurrections, flashback wigs, and oh-no-it-was-you-all-along reveals.

On Friday night, Oprah Winfrey hosted a swanky celebration for “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” executive producer and star David Oyelowo at the Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood.
Photographers lined the driveway of the iconic hotel while a who’s who of Hollywood — including Gayle King, Lupita Nyong’o, Niecy Nash-Betts and the cast of the hit Paramount+ series — posed in front of a black and gold backdrop. Inside the luxurious venue, even more stars — like Macro chief Charles D. King, Yvonne Orji, O-t Fagbenle, Anna Diop, Edwina Findley, Mykelti Williamson, Mo McRae, Eugene Ashe, Deon and Roxanne Taylor — mixed and mingled as the party took over the whole of the bar and pool area on a windy, yet starry night in Los Angeles. The Handmaid’s Tale traveled outside the confines of Gilead for much of season five, expanding the story of June Osborne, played by Elisabeth Moss, after her escape from the totalitarian society at the center of the Hulu series. The first two episodes, in fact, picked up in Canada in the 24 hours after the show’s most violent act yet, when June led her fellow handmaid’s in the brutal murder of her former abuser, Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes).
And those episodes, both directed by Moss, kicked off the tone of the entire penultimate season, explain cinematographer Nicola Daley, costume designer Leslie Kavanagh and composer Adam Taylor in a THR Presents panel, powered by Vision Media. Particularly when the double-episode premiere ended with June’s abducted daughter Hannah (Jordana Blake) being used as a pawn by June’s Gilead nemesis Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) during the worldwide broadcast of Fred’s funeral.

Since 2021, Giancarlo Esposito has held the distinction of being the most-recognized Black performer in the history of the Best Drama Supporting Actor Emmy category. After coming up short on all of his past nominations for “Breaking Bad” (2012), “Better Call Saul” (2019-2020) and “The Mandalorian” (2021), he now has a shot at finally triumphing on his potential third “Better Call Saul” bid. This would not only finally make the six-season AMC drama an Emmy-winning show, but would also make Esposito his category’s first Black winner.
Esposito’s appearance in the final season of “Better Call Saul” serves as the conclusion of a performance that had begun 13 years earlier on “Breaking Bad.” Although the newer series mainly functioned as a backstory for Jimmy “Saul Goodman” McGill (Bob Odenkirk), it naturally fleshed out many more featured “Breaking Bad” characters, including Esposito’s Gus Fring. Of the four episodes the Emmy-winning editor cut this season, Moss directed three, including the opening two hours, “Morning” and “Ballet.” While Martin did her fair share of preparation ahead of the fifth season to ensure she could draw viewers back into the intense situation on which the fourth one had left off, it is Moss’ vision, she highlights, that ultimately set the tone for the premiere.
“[Moss] comes on and absolutely kills it and has a vision herself,” Martin tells Gold Derby during a recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). “I mean, I watch all my dailies, from top to bottom, and her vision is very apparent in her footage.

Exclusive: Noma Dumezweni (The Undoing), Gabby Beans (Succession) and Sarunas J. Jackson (Insecure) have joined the cast of the Apple TV+ limited series Presumed Innocent.
Inspired by Scott Turow’s courtroom thriller, Presumed Innocent is the story of a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. The book was published in 1987 and was turned into a 1990 feature starring Harrison Ford in the role Jake Gyllenhaal is taking on.
As reimagined by David E. Kelley, Presumed Innocent will be exploring obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.
Dumezweni will recur as ‘Judge Lyttle,’ a formidable legal mind, she’s been on the bench for decades, and now she’s overseeing one of the most highly publicized trials in Chicago’s recent history. She knows the...

With an unprecedented number of Oscar nominations for Irish talent and films this year, everyone was celebrating the green wave at the 17th annual Oscar Wilde Awards, held Thursday night — before the rain arrived — at Bad Robot in Santa Monica. “It’s amazing, there are 7 million people on that island, and all of them were nominated and are here tonight,” host J.J. Abrams joked, in a year when 25 percent of the Academy Award acting nominations are held by Irish actors.
The Oscar Wilde honorees this year were Irish actresses Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jessie Buckley (Women Talking), Eve Hewson (Flora and Son) and An Cailίn Ciúin (The Quiet Girl), the first Irish language film nominated for an Academy Award. Created by the US-Ireland Alliance, the Oscar Wilde Awards celebrate the work of those from Ireland — and some who are not — who contribute to the movies, television and music.
