Exclusive: Channel 4 has axed documentary series Rescue: Extreme Medics after two seasons.
A Channel 4 spokesman said the decision is unrelated to Channel 4’s much-publicized current financial woes but was instead taken due to ratings and the desire to open up space in the schedules.
Running for two seasons, Rescue from Firecrest Films followed elite clinicians saving lives across the whole of Scotland, sometimes in extremely challenging situations. Episodes in the latest series, which ended last week, included a rally driver crash on the Isle of Mull and an air ambulance having to attend a high-speed road collision. The latest series was watched by an average of around 600,000 overnight viewers per episode and ended with a series high of just shy of 1M, according to Barb data from overnights.tv.
Reports swirled over the weekend about the latest set of Channel 4 cancellations, with Rescue rumored to be culled alongside established hit Naked Attraction.

Exclusive: Kirstie Allsopp’s popular daytime series Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas is being rested for a year as part of Channel 4’s efforts to cut costs amid a chastening ad market slump.
Deadline understands that Channel 4’s content chief Ian Katz personally phoned Allsopp to deliver the news last Thursday. He made an explicit reference to the UK broadcaster’s financial difficulties after its ad revenue plummeted between 10% and 20%.
We revealed on Monday how Channel 4 is canceling shows at the eleventh hour, asking suppliers to finance productions at short notice, tasking them with rethinking budgets mid-shoot, and pushing projects into 2024 because it can’t afford to pick up the bill.
First screened in 2014, Handmade Christmas was not formally greenlit for another season by Channel 4, but early preparations were underway, including tentative guest bookings. The show is produced by Glasgow-based company Raise The Roof Productions.

Hours after the UK government fired the starting gun on a process that could end with Channel 4 being privatized, the backlash has begun, with the likes of Veep creator Armando Iannucci railing against the proposals.
Ministers have launched a consultation on Channel 4’s future and culture secretary Oliver Dowden has said an “alternative ownership model” could be better for the broadcaster, which is behind hits including The Great British Bake Off. The government thinks this will help it prosper amid the streaming revolution.
Channel 4 has been government-owned since its inception in 1982, but is commercially funded and entirely self-sufficient, ploughing all of its profits into the UK’s world-leading independent production sector. A change of ownership structure could see it placed in the hands of new owners, with ministers pointing to the model of Channel 5, which is backed by ViacomCBS.

Rick Edwards has said that his worst interview was with Kirstie Allsopp.
The former Tool Academy host said that he was forced to apologise to the Location, Location, Location presenter following the interview.
When asked by Heat magazine what his worst interview was, the 35-year-old replied: "There was one that was just awful - Kirstie Allsopp."
Asked why, Edwards said: "Actually, I don't think I can say. What I can tell you is I had to text her to apologise, against my wishes.
"But, because I'm polite, I did it. But she never texted back. I didn't really mind texting her, but I think not texting back, even just to say, 'I received your text, thank you', is just rude."
Last year, Edwards reacted to a story in which Allsopp said that young women should have a baby by the age of 27 and shouldn't go to university with the reply: "Prick.

Jeremy Paxman became a Twitter trending topic last night (August 12), after he appeared with a beard on TV for seemingly the first time.
The broadcaster resembled Charles Dance as he was seen sporting stubble on Newsnight, prompting Twitter users to discuss and joke about the unexpected facial fuzz.
Gary Bainbridge wrote: "Night Editors: Quick, put Paxman's beard on Page 1 so he has to mention it when he does the papers."
Lauren Laverne tweeted: "I like the beard. It's Fawkesian. Doublet next."
Ian Rankin joked: "It is 1973 and I'm really digging the new album by Paxman's Beard..."
Meanwhile, Kirstie Allsopp said: "Paxo with a beard is like me going blonde, there are just some things that are not meant to be."
Fellow BBC presenter Emily Maitlis tweeted: "Right that's it. I'm working on a moustache for Thursday's newsnight."
Other viewers jokingly pointed out that Paxman's beard must grow quite fast, as...

Don't go looking for Lols, Rofls and PSMLs aplenty on Sunday nights on Channel 4 for the next month. The Mill is a new four-part drama about turbulent years in rural Cheshire at the Quarry Bank Mill. And by 'eck it was grim.
Not since the Brookside Close got bulldozed down have I seen so much misery and gloom from the North-West of England.
Based around the real people and history of the Quarry Bank, it wouldn't be my first pick destination for a trip in a time machine. Nobody smiled. It was slop for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And misery reigned supreme.
Women getting groped and molested by their supervisors, kids getting their arms chopped up in the machinery and then having them amputated with what looked like meat cleavers, 12-hour days with only a splodge of what looks like papier-mache as sustenance.

Drama in aid of a worthy cause is not always more a pleasure than a duty, and Richard Curtis's feature-length Mary and Martha – an early curtain-raiser for Red Nose Day – was no exception. If its aim was to draw attention to the thousands of African children who die needlessly each year from malaria, all I can say is, it felt like it. I hope that doesn't sound too uncharitable. But I would have been as happy with a decent documentary as with this glossy weepie about two mums – one American, one English – having the bad luck to have a beloved son bitten to death by a mosquito in Mozambique and then...

Darker than Satan’s pencil case, Dream Home serves up a healthy hammock full of blood, guts and gore. All of which had me laughing, wincing and most importantly, enjoying for the full 96 minute duration.
If you aren’t familiar with Asian cinema then know this. I love it and Dream Home further exacerbated my enthusiasm for it. Directed by Pang Ho-cheung, Dream Home is the story of Cheng Li-sheung who is a young, upwardly mobile professional that is finally ready to invest in her first home. British culture is going through a blue period, with actors, musicians and artists all happily admitting that they're privately educated Conservative toffs. What happened?
You may have missed it, but early last month, a very telling photograph appeared in the newspapers. Snapped on New Year's Day by a couple out for a walk on Coombe Hill in the Chilterns, it featured a party of eight – including David and Samantha Cameron, education secretary Michael Gove, film director Tim Burton, and the latter's extremely posh other half Helena Bonham Carter. According to subsequent gossip, the latter couple had been introduced to the Camerons by Bonham Carter's one-time Westminster school contemporary Nick Clegg. Others suggest that the two couples have been friends for years.
The group had reportedly stayed at Chequers, the prime minister's country retreat, on New Year's Eve – where the conversation doubtless turned to Bonham Carter's role in The King's Speech,...
