“I just know there’s something dark in me and I hide it. I certainly don’t talk about it, but it’s there always, this…dark passenger. And when he’s driving, I feel alive, half sick with the thrill of complete wrongness.
I don’t fight him, I don’t want to. He’s all I’ve got. Nothing else could love me, not even… especially not me.
Or is that just a lie the Dark Passenger tells me? Because lately there are these moments when I feel connected to something else… someone. It’s like the mask is slipping and things… people… who never mattered before are suddenly starting to matter. It scares the hell out of me”

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 8, Episode 4 of Showtime's "Dexter," titled "Scar Tissue."
Things will never be the same for Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) and Dexter (Michael C. Hall) Morgan. The fourth episode of "Dexter" Season 8, the show's final season, ended with Deb going off the deep end in more ways than one.
In the final moments of the episode, Deb attempted to kill both herself and her brother Dexter by driving their car into a lake. However, once Deb was saved by a witness, she went back to rescue Dexter.
"In the first four episodes of this season, Deb is searching for her bottom, and I think she's surprised to see just how low it actually is. She hits it when the car hits the water. When she looks back, she is able to see Dexter as this living, breathing person and it makes him real in that instant,...

San Diego — There weren't any kills at the final panel for "Dexter" at Comic-Con, but there were some tears.
"Dexter" actresses Jennifer Carpenter and Lauren Velez held back the waterworks as they expressed their gratitude to fans gathered inside the San Diego Convention Center for the pop-culture convention.
"You're the reason we show up every day," said Carpenter, who plays Deb, the conflicted sister of loveable serial killer Dexter Morgan. "We want to do right by you because your standards are high, and you deserve good work, so it can't be a wrap until we're all here together, especially for those who waited to be in this room."
Many of the "Dexter" devotees had camped out for a chance to see Michael C. Hall and the rest of the cast, who finished production on the eighth and final season of the Showtime drama last week.

Showtime's "Dexter" panel at San Diego Comic-Con was particularly emotional for fans as the cast and producers took the stage to say goodbye to the show. "Dexter" is currently in its eighth and final season, and cast members old and new discussed what it's like leaving the show behind.
The large panel included Jennifer Carpenter (Debra Morgan), Aimee Garcia (Jamie Batista), Desmond Harrington (Joey Quinn), Yvonne Strahovsky (Hannah McKay), David Zayas (Angel Batista) Lauren Velez (Maria Laguerta), and of course Dexter Morgan himself, Michael C. Hall.
The panel also included some more surprising guests: Julie Benz, who played Rita Bennett during the show's first four seasons, and Erik King, who portrayed James Doakes during the first two.
"Dexter" wrapped up shooting last week, and the cast agrees that it hasn't yet settled in. "I don't think it's a feeling that any of us have really processed yet," says executive producer Sara Colleton.

"Dexter" has been a staple of Comic-Con International in San Diego for the past few years now and with the show's final season currently underway, fans knew it was their last time to interact with the Morgans and the folks of Miami Metro in Hall H.
For "Dexter's" final Comic-Con panel on Thursday night, Showtime kicked things off with a video that included never-before-seen interviews with the cast on how they feel about saying goodbye. Check out a snippet below.
But to brighten the tear-eyed audiences' spirits, Showtime brought three former stars (four, if you include virtual visitors) back from the dead for "Dexter's" last trip to Comic-Con. Erik King (Sgt. Dexter, Season 1, “Dexter”
Directed by Michael Cuesta
Written by by James Manos Jr.
The pilot episode of a show that you love represents a vacation in time, a chance to go back down memory lane and smile, grin or laugh at the way things once were. The awkwardness of first meetings, how different they were as people, the sense of blind wonder at what may come; it’s an oddly personal experience, rather like remembering your first day of college. Like watching old home movies, the nostalgia is mixed with embarrassment, amusement and, perhaps in small doses, regret. Even the best shows can have strange pilot episodes, full of quirks that were quickly dropped without explanation, elements that were mostly best left out, some which sadly didn’t make the transition from trial run to the full program.

The teaser trailer for Dexter’s eight season is an ominous reminder of just how many people have met their end in the show’s seven season run. All the names are there: those of Dexter’s victims and more consequential names like Arthur Mitchell, James Doakes, Rita Bennett and, the latest, Maria Laguerta.
But how many more will be added to that list? And, more importantly, will (and should) Dexter Morgan join the ranks of the dead prior to the Season 8 bow, which will presumably be its last?
The irony with anti-hero drama has always been that we (as viewers) fall in love with an incredibly conflicted character, who typically has committed unspeakable acts. We get a vicarious thrill in watching them do what most of us could never even fathom doing (of course, I’m assuming that none of you work for Miami Metro while moonlighting as a...

For four years and running, Showtime has had us, get this, actually rooting for a serial killer. Whether through the sheer acting prowess of Michael C. Hall, the great writing of the show’s creators Jeff Lindsay and James Manos Jr., the fantastic supporting cast – including Angel Batista (David Zayas), Rita Bennett (Julie Benz) and Joey Quinn (Desmond Harrington) – or the great guests – Miguel Prado (Jimmy Smits) and Arthur Mitchell (John Lithgow) – Dexter has been able to do just that. Given, Dexter kills by a code. He kills because he was born in blood, witnessing the brutal murder of his mother when he was only an infant. He kills because a Dark Passenger requires him too. But by following the code of his father, Harry (James Remar), he only kills those who deserve it – wretched criminals who have slipped through the grasp of the justice system. So ...

Been a chatter for some time, the casting of Julia Stiles on "Dexter" has just been officially confirmed by Showtime. In a press release, the cable said Stiles will appear in ten episodes in the upcoming fifth season.
Showtime however did not clearly state the actress' role, only writing she "will play a mysterious young woman who forms a unique relationship with Dexter in the wake of the death of his wife". If one recalls, Julie Benz's Rita was dead in the hand of Trinity killer while her young son was lying in her pool of blood.
Showrunner Chip Johannessen told EW a few weeks ago that they won't follow the pattern of last season. "We're not going to have a single Big Bad this season," he said. "We don't want to try and top John Lithgow, so we're going to change up the forces that Dexter's going to be dealing with.

Yes, it's true, Julie Benz will be returning for season five of Dexter. The news via EW's Michael Ausiello immediately had us speculating as to the nature of Rita's reappearance. A flashback? A ghost? A zombie?!
Well according to executive producer Sara Colleton and her new partner in crime, former 24 co-ep and new Dexter showrunner, Chip Johannessen, it will be none of the above.
“We’re not going to do some ghostly thing with her," said Johannessen. Colleton clarified the statement; “We reserve those for Harry. If you have too many things like that it becomes gimmicky.” Hmm, has someone been watcing Lost?
The network's official statement on the news isn't much more revealing. "As Dexter grapples with the reality of the death of his wife and the realization that he is now a single father, the presence of Rita Bennett will help him deal with his newfound feelings of...

Rita's death on "Dexter" was one of the more shocking events of the past TV season. Nearly as surprising is the news that she'll make a return appearance next season.
Showtime confirms to Zap2it that Julie Benz, who played Dexter's (Michael C. Hall) wife, Rita Bennett, before being murdered by the Trinity Killer late last season, will guest in the show's fifth-season premiere in the fall. As for how that happens, the cable channel isn't saying. At least not really.

"Dexter" created quite a stir when it killed off one of its main cast in the end of season 4. But the deceased character is going to re-appear in the show when it returns for the fifth season this Fall. TV Guide has confirmed that Julie Benz will reprise her role as Rita Morgan whose life was taken away by the Trinity Killer.
How she will be incorporated to the storyline is still unclear but two things for sure, she won't be alive or appear as Dexter's imagination like his father does. "We're not going to do some ghostly thing with her," showrunner/executive producer Chip Johannessen said.
Exec producer Sara Colleton chimed in, "Bringing her back in a flashback or visionary way sort of steps on our use of Harry. We want to be very, very specific about that and not get gimmicky, because it would become too much of a device.

In what could be the most unexpected piece of casting news of the week, it's been announced that Julie Benz is rejoining the cast of 'Dexter' for the season 5 premiere this fall.
According to the Ausiello Files Benz will be back playing Dexter's wife Rita Bennett Morgan, who was killed off in the season 4 finale. However, show insiders are keeping mum over exactly how they'll bring the character back. Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is already frequently visited by his dead father, Harry (James Remar), and executive producer Sarah Colleton said they want to avoid using the same plot device for Rita: "If you have too many things like that it becomes gimmicky".

Freshmen series Glee and Modern Family are competing against each other for Beest TV Comedy Ensemble.

When the producers of "Dexter" said they were going to give one shocking finale that no other shows had ever done, they were not kidding. [Spoiler Alert] Rita Bennett aka Dexter's wife and one of the major characters in the serial killer series has been killed off and no one saw that coming. Clyde Phillips was available to explain.
In an exclusive interview with the executive producer, EW threw the burning question of why it was Rita who should take the fall. To this Phillips said, "The story evolved and it kind of became inevitable. We knew that we had to do more than kill Trinity. It's a little bit of a corner that we paint ourselves into. Last year we tried to avoid that and actually I think we didn't do as well as we could have." Clyde added that they had to raise the bar as Trinity's death would be inevitable.

Julie Benz has seen her fair share of onscreen combat. She plays Rita Bennett on the hit Showtime series Dexter and has starred in the action-packed thrillers Rambo and Punisher: War Zone. No actress can play the love interest or the damsel in distress forever and nobody deserves a chance to wield firearms more than Benz. In Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, Benz gets to play the ultimate female badass, FBI agent Eunice Bloom. Not only does Benz have the pressure of living up to Paul Smecker.s (Willem Dafoe) legacy, but she also has to hold her own on a set overflowing with testosterone. All Saints Day isn.t the only buzzworthy item on Benz.s resume; Dexter just kicked off its fourth season and the tension is higher than ever. Rita, Dexter and the kids may appear to be the perfect family, but Dexter.s dark passenger...

I can’t believe they killed Julie Benz!!! I can’t believe they knocked off the former Angel actress, who plays Rita Bennett, in “Living the Dream,” the fourth-season premiere of the hit Showtime series Dexter. Talk about jolting your viewers! This ranks right up there in TV shockers with J.R. being shot, Henry Blake dying on M*A*S*H and David Faustino exiting the cast of Married…With Children. Wait…sorry. That last one isn’t true. And neither is the first one.
Rita is alive and well and still married to Dexter (Michael C. Hall) at the end of “Living the Dream” (which debuts this Sunday at 9 p.m.). But I fibbed for a reason—actually two, and one of them isn’t ’cause I wanted to be a misleading jackass. First and foremost, I wanted an opening line that grabbed people’s attention. And secondly,...

Fango recently spoke to New Moon scripter Melissa Rosenberg for our coverage of the Twilight sequel (see it in issue #288, on sale in October) and got a few words from her on Showtime’s hit serial-killer series Dexter, on which she also serves as a writer. Rosenberg reveals that the title character, played by Michael C. Hall, is going to face new challenges in the fourth season, which premieres Sunday, September 27.
The show’s previous season ended with Dexter coming to terms with his future as a father, and marrying his girlfriend, Rita Bennett (Julie Benz). But will marriage and a child mean Dexter is going to put his murderous hobby aside and live a simple life? Can a serial killer even have a normal life? “Well, no,” Rosenberg laughs. “The question this season is, ‘Can he have it all?’ He has a child and wife now, but still possesses that dark need to kill.
