Ahead of Big Brother‘s return to CBS with season 25, Julie Chen Moonves is opening up to Et about who the network originally wanted as host and how much longer she sees herself working on the reality TV competition.
When asked if there’s anything the fans of the hit series — which sees a group of strangers forced to co-exist in a shared house while they are isolated from the outside world — don’t know, Moonves says that CBS wanted another daytime TV fixture to host. “I wasn’t the first choice to host. It was offered and turned down by Meredith Vieira,” she says of the former moderator for The View.
Although she doesn’t remember how she learned of this tidbit, Moonves says she eventually confirmed the rumor through her husband, former CBS chairman and CEO Les Moonves. “I asked him. I said, ‘You know, I heard stories...

The game of Big Brother can be mentally challenging. Hannah Chaddha revealed how she feels years after season 23 even though it led to making history for the show and broke down barriers for future houseguests.

Big Brother fans have seen alliances form before, but big ones usually don’t last. Tiffany Mitchell, Kyland Young, Derek Frazier, Xavier Prather, and Azah Awasum formed The Cookout in the first week. They later included Chaddha.
They were the Black houseguests and their mission was to have the first Black winner of Big Brother. Mitchell came up with a plan for all of them to align with someone outside the alliance. This helped them keep tabs on their strategy. If someone in The Cookout were on the block, they would have the votes to evict the other person.

The Challenge: USA kicked off its inaugural season in July 2022, which invited CBS reality TV stars to compete as the flagship usually only includes MTV personalities. Former Big Brother houseguests, including two-time finalist Enzo Palumbo, season 20’s Angela Rummans, who won five competitions, David Alexander (BB21), and season 23’s Alyssa Lopez and Derek Xiao, as well as popular The Cookout members Kyland Young, Azah Awasum, Tiffany Mitchell, and winner Xavier Prather competed. Although the USA appeared to have potential, the season flamed out in the finals when nearly all the contestants couldn’t figure out a sudoku puzzle, causing them to quit. Regardless, it’s rumored the show will return with a second season, and these Big Brother 24 houseguests should compete.

Big Brother 23 runner-up Derek “Big D” Frazier believes his weight plays a part in why he hasn’t appeared on other competition shows, as several of his castmates recently returned to reality TV for The Challenge and The Amazing Race.
Derek Frazier thinks competition shows won’t cast him due to his weight
Several Big Brother alumni have become recurring cast members on the MTV competition series The Challenge, including Faysal “Fessy” Shafaat, Josh Martinez, Amber Borzotra, and Kaycee Clark, with the latter two winning a season. Additionally, season 20’s Angela Rummans and season 23’s Alyssa Lopez and Derek Xiao, and Cookout members Azah Awasum, Kyland Young, Tiffany Mitchell, and winner Xavier Prather joined the first season of CBS competitive spinoff The Challenge: USA.
Shortly after casting for USA Season 2 and The Challenge 39 reportedly began in late February 2023, BB23 runner-up Derek “Big D” Frazier tweeted his belief about not getting called for the series.

All reality television competitions run on drama. That’s what casting directors look for in participants; a show of calm, broad-minded, flexible folks certainly wouldn’t be compelling for audiences (and the ratings would be snoozy as well).
But recent headlines suggest a change may need to happen. While these reality TV competitions are entertaining and contribute to enormous viewership, a number of contestants push the envelope excessively — backstabbing, gossiping, and revealing outrageous behavior. The latest example was Sunday night, on the history-making live finale of CBS’ “Big Brother,” when fan favorite Taylor Hale overcame numerous adversities to become the first Black female to ever win a non-celebrity version of the game, taking home 750,000.
In a house with several other contestants who severely bullied her, Hale, a former pageant queen, was made fun of and unfairly ostracized for weeks, becoming the underdog for viewers to root for. Outraged and very vocal on social media,...

The competition is becoming more intense with each episode of The Challenge: USA, as cast members try to win, strategize, plot, and scheme their ways to Tj Lavin’s final.
They’ll be working harder than ever in those areas, as The Algorithm is now out of the picture, and it’s become an individual game. Having solid allies becomes extra essential.
Ahead of the ninth episode, all but one of the remaining competitors had qualified for the final by earning 5,000 in their personal bank accounts. That’s Survivor star Sarah Lacina, who appears to be looking to eliminate one specific castmate from the game.
Viewers saw a deal set in motion in Episode 8 of the spinoff show after Big Brother star Angela Rummans was the women’s winner in the daily challenge.

The key to winning “The Challenge: USA” is to prevail in the Final Challenge, but in order to qualify for that, contestants must first accumulate at least 5,000 throughout the season. At the start of CBS’s reality TV show, each person was given 1,000 in their banks. There are two ways to earn additional funds: win a daily challenge or survive the elimination arena (which lets them steal the losers’ banks).

Sarah Lacina may try to take out her biggest rival in The Challenge: USA, Episode 9. Pic credit: MTV’s The Challenge/YouTube
With Tj Lavin’s final getting closer, The Challenge: USA competition is really heating up. However, several players still need to qualify for the final by earning enough money in their personal bank accounts.
One of those players is former Survivor winner Sarah Lacina, and based on a teaser trailer for Episode 9, she’ll be gunning for her main rival so far during the show.
After failing to win any daily challenges and only adding 1,500 to her bank account, Sarah needs a big win to become eligible for Tj’s final.
Meanwhile, it’s apparent she has a heated feud with castmate Angela Rummans and wants to find a way to eliminate her from the game.

In The Challenge: USA, Episode 7, teams will clash in a physical daily challenge for the first time of the season. However, they’ll do some from within some hard-hitting vehicles rather than their bodies.
The latest event will feature Challenge bumper cars as teammates will ride inside the vehicle and navigate a dirt course. Like many other challenges, a twist makes things unique and more difficult.
For this particular daily, the teammate driving the car will be unable to see anything as they’ll have a helmet featuring a blacked-out visor on front.
Their partner will be frantically trying to guide them by shouting out instructions as their teammate does their best to drive while blind.

While MTV’s The Challenge and Paramount Plus’ The Challenge: All Stars have seen some intense moments, viewers watching the CBS spinoff of the competition show hadn’t quite seen anything too dramatic within the first four episodes.
However, that changed when Episode 5 arrived, and castmates who thought they had trustworthy allies realized that wasn’t necessarily the case.
According to several of The Challenge: USA cast members, the situation became so intense with castmates following one elimination that security needed to stay over to ensure everyone was safe.
The footage didn’t show that during the episode, but it may be why things didn’t get too intense between cast members in the compound.

The Challenge: USA has been a real breath of fresh air.
Putting competitors from four shows together has switched up the format entirely.
On The Challenge: USA Season 1 Episode 5, Azah Awasum and Cinco Holland find themselves thrown into the elimination after their performance in the daily challenge.
Had the pair won the daily, they would have considered who they didn't want to be paired up with.
The algorithm has been shaking the game up like never before, and getting paired with the wrong person could get you sent home.
Cinco was thinking about further into the competition because there were certain people he didn't want to run a final with.
From a strategic standpoint, Azah would have targeted Leo and Sarah "only because I had good relationships with everyone, but it was coming to that point in the game where you had to just turn on people."

Swimming and a bad strategy call were the downfalls of the latest eliminated The Challenge: USA players. After coming in last during the daily challenge, Big Brother‘s Azah Awasum (who knew she wouldn’t do well since it involved swimming) and Love Island‘s Melvin “Cinco” Holland Jr. didn’t offer up any names when they sat down with the winners, Survivor‘s Tyson Apostol and Love Island‘s Cashay Proudfoot. (Cinco thought his ex Cashay would use that against them.) And so they ended up going against Survivor‘s Sarah Lacina and The Amazing Race‘s Leo Temory in the elimination, A Dark Turn, during which the players had to memorize a stack of different-sized reels in a dark container and recreate it in the arena. Sarah and Leo measured the reels first using their hands before even stepping foot inside the container, a strategy that led to their win.

One of the most intriguing stories to watch on “The Challenge: USA” was that of Cashay Proudfoot and Melvin “Cinco” Holland Jr. They originally met on “Love Island” and then dated in the real world before eventually breaking up. CBS’s new reality TV show brought them both together for a grueling competition, but Cinco (alongside his teammate Azah Awasum) ended up being eliminated in the fifth episode after losing the “Barreled Treasure” game and the “A Dark Turn” elimination challenge.
“I don’t necessarily wanna be with Cinco and I know he doesn’t want to be with me,” a teary-eyed Cashay told the camera after Cinco was eliminated. “But I think a part of me still loves that man. Like, a part of me is still in love with him. I’m grateful to him and our story even though the story of us is officially closed.”

Hey, "The Challenge USA" fans. Earlier tonight, August 3, 2022, another new episode of The Challenge USA's current season 1 did hit the air, and another unlucky pair of contestants did get the boot at the end. Tonight's episode kicked off with another switching of partners via the algorithm. Danny McCray got paired up with Angela Rummons. Derek Xiao with Cayla Platt. David Alexander with Alyssa Lopez. Tyson Apostol with Cashay Proudfoot. Enzo Palumbo with Kyra Green. Kyland Young with Shannon St. Clair. Domenick Abbate with Desi Williams. Cinco Holland Jr. with Azah Awasum. Ben Driebergen with Justine Ndiba and Leo Temory with Sarah Lacina. Cashay and Cinco were spotted talking. Cashay told Cinco, "You've done things that hurt my feelings like watching you flirt with other women." Cinco said, "This conversation is weird for me after not talking with you for two days." Cashay said, "At the end of the day, you're single.

“I played ‘Big Brother’ Season 23 and I backstabbed everyone and they’re all petty little bitches about it,” declared a salty Xavier Prather after being eliminated in the July 27 episode of “The Challenge: USA.” He won 750,000 in the “BB23” house, but he failed to earn any money during his four weeks of grueling competition on “The Challenge.” Xavier’s game came to an end this week when he ended up being betrayed by two people he’d previously blindsided on “Big Brother”: Kyland Young and Alyssa Lopez. #karma

The Cookout is officially cancelled. On Wednesday night’s episode of “The Challenge: USA,” new lines were drawn in the sand when Xavier Prather helped orchestrate the demise of his former “Big Brother” pal, Tiffany Mitchell. Both were part of the historic Cookout alliance on “Big Brother 23” that led to six Black players reaching the end of the game together, with Xavier winning the 750,000 prize.
After Tyson Apostol won his second weekly challenge in a row (this time with partner Justine Ndiba), the “Survivor” champ had to figure out who to throw into the arena against the “Yeah Buoy!” losers, Cayla Platt & James Wallington.
See “The Challenge: USA” cast photos
At first, Tiffany wasn’t even on Tyson or Justine’s radar. As a mixed pair from “Survivor” and “Love Island,” the duo’s easiest route was to throw in one of the teams that consisted of only “Big Brother” players.

Former “Big Brother” contestants are joining the outcry over Season 24, calling out the continued bullying of Taylor Hale.
After last week’s premiere, many fans expressed their anger over how the first set of competitions went, resulting in most of the women in the house losing their chance to protect themselves from eviction. But more than that, audiences found themselves raging over the treatment of Taylor by fellow contestants, Paloma and Alyssa.
“If your girls alliance is based solely on you talking s— and ‘othering’ the other women in the house then it’s trash and weak,” one person tweeted.
Now, following Sunday night’s episode, several contestants from last season — many from the dominant Cookout alliance — tweeted their disappointment in the all the houseguests’ treatment of Taylor.

Summer can officially begin now that “Big Brother” is back on our TV screens. Everyone’s favorite guilty pleasure returns to CBS with all new houseguests battling for a 750,000 prize. The theme is Bb Motel and the house will be inspired by a mid-century Palm Springs look. There will be a twist that, according CBS, will send houseguests “scrambling” and America will be able vote to “impact the game” on premiere night.
Host Julie Chen Moonves has also teased to Us Weekly that the “first live eviction night is going to be unlike any eviction night we’ve ever had because it may not be one of the people that you think that ends up getting bounced that night. These houseguests aren’t going to learn of this new twisted twist until that night.” So how did the 90-minute premiere play out on Wednesday night?

The Challenge: USA Season 1 Episode 1 premieres on CBS tonight (July 6) at 09:30 P.M.
TV Fanatic got to speak to some of the cast members ahead of the highly-anticipated premiere.
We caught up with Azah Awasum, Alyssa Lopez, Tiffany Mitchell, Enzo Palumbo, Xavier Prather, and Kyland Young about their participation in the inaugural season of The Challenge: USA.
Prather won Big Brother Season 23 last summer, and he was nervous about being seen as a target when he walked into The Challenge house.
"I was the only Big Brother winner that appeared on The Challenge: USA," Prather said, noting that there were winners of the other shows in the house.
"Even though there were other winners there, given that I'm the only winner from Big Brother and Big Brother has the majority of people from one show in a house. I was like, 'oh man, I might be in trouble here.

When the merge kinda-sorta happened on the sixth episode of “Survivor 41,” it brought together people from all three tribes. Immediately, the show’s four remaining Black castaways — Shantel “Shan” Smith from Ua, Liana Wallace from Yase, and Deshawn Radden and Danny McCray from Luvu — struck an agreement to remain loyal to each other for the rest of the game. While they didn’t give an official name to their group, fans of “Big Brother 23” immediately had flashbacks to the Cookout alliance, which dominated that season and resulted in a Black person winning for the first time ever.
In truth, this 41st cycle of “Survivor” was filmed back in the spring, well before the “BB23” houseguests created their Cookout alliance during the most recent summer installment. “More than any other season that I think I’ve ever watched on ‘Survivor,’ I think Season 41 has been the most diverse and most inclusive and representative of America,...

Azah Awasum was one comp away from winning the final Hoh on “Big Brother 23” to secure a spot in the final two, but she messed up on the very first question, ironically, about her fellow Joker girl Britini D’Angelo. Xavier Prather won final Hoh, took Derek Frazier to final two, and then won the game 9-0 to become the show’s first Black winner.
“I feel like that’s all I could be: be at peace. I tried my absolute best. And how I view things is if it’s not meant for you, it’s not meant for you,” Azah tells Gold Derby (watch above). “I’m happy for the winner. I think it is extremely well deserved.”

Big D talked a big game on “Big Brother 23,” but when it came down to it, he knew he was not going to beat Xavier Prather to win the $750,000 on Wednesday. “I can’t lie. I knew I was not going to beat X and I knew X deserved it. Even if I had a key, I would’ve turned X’s name, to be honest,” Derek Frazier tells Gold Derby (watch above). “I knew he deserved it, but I damn sure knew I deserved second place. I wanted my second place, Ok?”
He adds: “It feels amazing! I am so happy. It really does tell me that, hey, I put a plan in place and executed it, so I’m very, very happy.”
Big D did not get a single vote from the nine jurors, which did not surprise him either given his blank comp resume. “That jury was sold on competition.

Xavier Prather made “Big Brother” history Wednesday night, becoming the first Black champ in the show’s history after winning Season 23 with a clean 9-0 sweep over Derek Frazier. That was already after making history as part of the first all-Black final six via the Cookout. And just hours after collecting his cool $750,000 check, it was still hard for him to put it into words.
“It feels incredible,” Xavier tells Gold Derby (watch above). “I set out with a goal to do whatever I could to help crown the first Black winner in ‘Bb’ U.S. history and to be that representative now, not only for ‘Big Brother’ but the entire Black community is a huge honor and I just hope I can make everyone proud.”
The 27-year-old lawyer cruised through Part 3 of the final Hoh, nailing every single question before taking Big D, as promised, to the final two and evicting Azah Awasum.

History was made on September 29 as “Big Brother” crowned its first Black winner ever: Xavier Prather. (See the updated winners list.) At the beginning of this 23rd season, an alliance was formed called the Cookout that consisted of six African-American players: Xavier, Derek Frazier, Azah Awasum, Kyland Young, Hannah Chaddha and Tiffany Mitchell. One by one, they voted out all of the other contestants until they remained as the Final 6. On Wednesday night, the jury of nine voted unanimously to award Xavier with the $750,000 grand prize.
The Cookout absolutely dominated this game from Day 1, making them the most successful alliance in “Big Brother” history. After making it to the Top 6, the group’s celebration was short-lived as they were forced to start eating their own. After 85 days of scheming, napping and crying, the winner of “Big Brother 23” was finally crowned on Wednesday night. But was it Xavier Prather, Derek Frazier or Azah Awasum who won the $750,000 grand prize and became the show’s first-ever Black winner? After Xavier claimed Part 1 of the final Head of Household competition, Derek and Azah competed in Part 2. The victor then faced off live against Xavier in Part 3 to determine who would become the last Hoh of the summer. That person had the power to bring someone with them to the Final 2, thereby sending the other contestant to the jury house. Also during the two-hour finale, viewers learned the identity America’s Favorite Houseguest, which came with a special $50,000 check.

On September 29, a jury of nine disgruntled evictees will determine which player will win the historic 23rd season of “Big Brother” and simultaneously become the first Black winner and $750,000 richer. We already speculated how the jurors will vote in the three possible Final 2 scenarios, and the predictions align with those thoughts. According to Gold Derby’s finale predictions, Xavier Prather is the likeliest champion with 2/13 odds. Azah Awasum could pull out a shocker, but we’ve only got 13/1 odds favoring that outcome. Derek Frazier is the least likely winner, though not far behind Azah’s chances, with 16/1 odds of his own.

The path to winning cannot be determined until the final two parts of the last Head of Household competition is held. Xavier won Part 1, earning his spot in Part 3, but we won’t know who he faces off against until the finale airs.

Heading into the “Big Brother” house, Xavier Prather knew people would target him because of his athletic build. The former collegiate basketball player chose to conceal his identity as an athlete and attorney, stating in Episode 36, “I needed to do everything in my power to minimize my threat.” Xavier’s strategy paid off and now the 27-year old lawyer from Milwaukee will face off against Azah Awasum and Derek Frazier on Wednesday’s live Season 23 finale hosted by Julie Chen Moonves.
