Exclusive: The international boss of ITN Productions (Itnp), the production outfit behind Prince Harry: The Interview, has detailed scripted ambitions including a desire to make a show that breaks free from its factual-led comfort zone.
ITN produces the ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 news in the UK but has built up a mini production powerhouse over the past few years, making hundreds of hours of fast-turnarounds, documentaries, and factual entertainment shows including for major streamers, while broadening its U.S. offering. Itnp has now entered the scripted space, unveiling its debut drama, Cush Jumbo-starring Lifetime movie Girl in the Video, late last week.
Ian Russell, who runs the international operation, described the scripted move as a “natural evolution” for the near-15-year-old production outfit, which feels “incremental and comfortable.”
The plan had been in the offing for a while, building on Itnp’s success in the true crime and royal game.

Exclusive: Netflix is poised to renew its bite-sized history show History 101 for a second season.
Netflix is yet to finalize a deal with UK producer ITN Productions, but Deadline understands that work is already underway on Season 2, which follows last year’s 10-part first season.
History 101 mixes archive footage and graphics to provide users with a bluffer’s guide to historical moments, human achievements, and social movements. The first season opened with a 20-minute history of the fast-food industry, while other episodes spotlighted subjects including AIDS, feminism, and robots.
The series makes use of ITN’s deep archive of material, drawn from 66 years of newsgathering. Season 1 was executive produced by Simon George, Bruce Kennedy, and Ian Russell.
ITN Productions continues to win business from Netflix, having produced Drug Lords for the streamer in the past.

Jordan Belfort, the inspiration for Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street, is to host a fast-turnaround Discovery+ documentary on the surge in GameStop’s share price.
ITN Productions is making the special film, which is working titled GameStop: The Wall Street Hijack and premieres in the UK on April 8 before an international rollout.
Narrated by Belfort, he will examine how a group of young, risk-embracing day traders used social media to organize a massive stock buy-up for video game retailer GameStop.
“I’ve found some very creative ways to make money on Wall Street, but I’ve got to say, personally, I love the fact that everyone now has the ability to organize and give the Wall Street players a run for their money, it’s a real David versus Goliath story,” he said.
