Before she was one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Julia Roberts was apparently subject to on-set mistreatment by the late director Herb Ross. Ross, who died in 2001, directed Roberts in one of her earliest hits, the heartfelt 1989 drama "Steel Magnolias." When the movie hit theaters, Roberts was just four months away from becoming a major celebrity thanks to the success of "Pretty Women." But in a recent interview with Vulture, her "Steel Magnolias" costar says Roberts, then in her early 20s, was subject to tough treatment by Ross.
"Herb was very, very, very hard on Julia," Sally Field told the outlet in February. "If you ever talk to Julia, she'll tell you." She continued: "We would all rally around Julia, because she was the baby. She was sort of the newcomer." In the film, Roberts plays Shelby, the daughter to Field's M'Lynn who suffers from diabetes. "Blonde," the new movie starring Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe, is more inspired by the legendary actor's story than it is a retelling of her life. However, there are parts that stick pretty close to the facts we know about her.
The film is an adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates's novel of the same name, and director Andrew Dominik told BFI in an interview published Sept. 27 that the decision to adapt the novel is why there are so many factual changes to the story he tells. He explained, "I've read everything there is to read about Marilyn Monroe. I've met people that knew her. I've done an enormous amount of research. But in the end, it's about the book. And adapting the book is really about adapting the feelings that the book gave me. I see the film, in some ways, as Joyce's vision of Marilyn, which is also really Joyce.

Fifty-five years ago on Saturday, the world lost a luminous legend of the screen when Marilyn Monroe died at 36 on Aug. 5, 1962, of a barbiturate overdose.
Although Monroe’s death was officially ruled a “probable suicide” by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, mystery has surrounded her untimely passing ever since, with some speculating that her alleged affairs with President John F. Kennedy and his brother Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy may have played a role.
Before she died, Monroe’s personal life was a shambles: Thrice divorced, she wasn’t a mother (her fondest wish), and many believe she had had,...

Actor Brad Pitt reportedly warned Julia Roberts not to pursue her now- husband Danny Moder when she first laid eyes on him, because she was still dating her former fiance Benjamin Bratt. The actress was immediately attracted to the cameraman when she spotted him strolling topless across the set of the 2001 movie The Mexican - in which she co-starred with Pitt - according to James Spada's biography Julia. Roberts and Pitt were relaxing in between takes when she allegedly asked the hunky actor, "Who's that young hunk of burning love?" Startled Pitt scolded her, saying, "Now, you be a good girl or I'm gonna tell on you," before Roberts replied, "Honey, someone needs to strip that boy down and bring him to my trailer." According to Spada, who has failed in his bid to elicit a response from Roberts about the books and her reported comments, it was Danny's toned body that attracted her. He says, "A friend told me Julia loves the six-pack ab thing."...
