20 June 2008 3:00 AM, PDT | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

Rapper 50 Cent served his former girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins, with a $20 million defamation lawsuit on Friday outside a Suffolk County, N.Y., court, for allegedly making offensive and false statements about the hip-hop star. Following a fire on May 30 which burned down a Long Island home owned by 50 Cent (real name: Curtis Jackson) – in which Tompkins was living with their 11-year-old son, Marquise – Tompkins made defamatory statements, according to Jackson's court documents, accusing him of "trying to kill" her and their son by setting the fire. "It's simply not true," Jackson's attorney, Brett Kimmel, told People. 50 Cent was in Louisiana filming

50 Cent's House Burns Down in 'Suspicious' Fire

30 May 2008 8:45 AM, PDT | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

A Long Island, N.Y. home belonging to rapper 50 Cent (real name: Curtis Jackson) burned down Friday, the Associated Press reports. Six people were hospitalized but in stable condition after suffering from smoke inhalation. Their names have not been released, but a lawyer for 50 Cent's former girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins, says she lived in the house with her two children, including her 10-year-old son, Marquis, with the rapper. Arson investigators reported to the scene on Friday, and firefighters call the blaze "suspicious." A spokesperson for the musician, who was not at the house, released a statement Friday expressing relief that no

50 Cent Evicting Son And Ex-girlfriend

5 April 2008 7:16 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Latest: Hip-hop star 50 Cent has won his legal bid to evict his ex-girlfriend and their son from a Long Island, New York home he owns.

A judge has ruled that Shaniqua Tompkins and 10-year-old Marquise must leave the $1.5 million (GBP750,000) mansion, which is in the upmarket Long Island neighbourhood of Dix Hills, by the end of the school year.

The rapper said of the victory, "I'm a winner."

Tompkins filed legal papers in Manhattan on Wednesday accusing 50 Cent - real name Curtis Jackson - of breach of contract and unjust enrichment.

50 Cent Sued By Mother Of His Son

3 April 2008 10:35 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

50 Cent's ex-girlfriend is suing the rapper for trying to evict her and their 10-year-old son from their Long Island, New York home.

Shaniqua Tompkins filed legal papers in Manhattan on Wednesday accusing 50 Cent - real name Curtis Jackson - of breach of contract and unjust enrichment.

Tompkins' lawyer Paul Catsandonis explains this means the hip-hop star reneged on a promise to give his client and their son, Marquise, a home.

Catsandonis says, "This was a house that was promised to Shaniqua up until the closing. Then he decided not to put it in her name. Now he's trying to put her out of the house. This would mean evicting his own son."

Tompkins' lawsuit asks the court to rule she has the right to live in the multi-million dollar property, which is in the upmarket Long Island neighbourhood of Dix Hills.

In February, a New York judge ruled in 50 Cent's favour in a dispute with Tompkins over child support for Marquise, reducing her monthly allowance to $6,700 (GBP3,350).

Fat Joe Hits Back At 50 Cent's Mock Funeral Video

24 March 2008 9:09 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Latest: Fat Joe has fired back at his rap rival 50 Cent by featuring the star and his G-unit counterparts on the cover of his new mixtape - all wearing make-up.

The digitally-altered image is set to appear on Gay Unit Vol. 1, a compilation by Terror Squad affiliate Dj Suge White hosted by the crew's frontman Fat Joe.

In the Cd artwork, 50 Cent - real name Curtis Jackson - is pictured in a tight embrace with Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo with lipstick smeared on their faces. Yayo, a former convict, is shown with an "I Miss Jail" tattoo on his shoulder and Banks is portrayed with a portrait of 50 on his bicep with the word "Delicious" directly underneath.

Gay Unit Vol. 1 is a direct response to 50's latest video attack on Joe, in which the In Da Club hitmaker holds a mock funeral for the heavyweight star and claims his career is over.

In the video footage, posted on his website ThisIs50.com, 50 claims his spoof mixtape Elephant In The Sand - a play on Joe's album title The Elephant In The Room - scored 700,000 downloads last week (ends21Mar08), while his competitor's official album only debuted with 46,000 copies in the same period.

And in another Internet video hitting back at 50, Joe accuses the rap superstar of cheating in his sales claims - because his mixtape was available for free.

In the new video clip, which was posted on YouTube.com, Joe's camp claims 50's label, Interscope Records, provided a budget of $27 million (GBP13.5 million) for his third album Curtis, with losses totalling $22.6 million (GBP11.3 million) for the project.

These figures are then compared to Joe's independent release, which allegedly made $50,674 (GBP25,462) net profit from first week sales.

And in the last part of the video, Joe implies 50 is no longer at the top of his game. The still reads: "Congratulations, Curtis. You bragging about Free downloads now? How mighty have fallen (sic)."

50 Cent Films Fat Joe's 'Funeral'

24 March 2008 12:11 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

50 Cent has stepped up his feud with fellow rapper Fat Joe by posting a mock funeral for the star on the internet.

The short film shows an American military funeral interspersed with clips of 50 Cent crying and paying tribute to the 37-year-old.

The In Da Club hitmaker - real name Curtis Jackson - is then seen revealing the real reason for the tape, pointing to the poor sales of Fat Joe's latest album The Elephant In The Room.

Fat Joe's record sold 46,000 copies in its first week of release in the U.S., while 50 Cent released a spoof mixtape on his website the same week (beg11Mar08) and scored over 400,000 downloads.

And 50 Cent is determined to emphasise his dominance in the music scene.

Speaking into the camera he says, "(Fat Joe's record sales are) actually terrible. That's when you know you are not relevant.

"The boss (myself) is there looking good with his number one album and he shouldn't stand next to that fat piece of s**t. Because you know how I get."

Beyonce Willing To Cross Picket Lines To Perform at Grammys

18 January 2008 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Beyonce Knowles has given the organizers of the 2008 Grammy Awards a huge boost after confirming she'll perform at the event whether or not striking writers picket the ceremony. Knowles will join the Foo Fighters, who announced earlier this week they'd cross picket lines to perform at the Grammys on February 10. Event organizers are adamant the show will go on as scheduled, despite the threat of protest from the striking writers. Writers Guild of America (WGA) union members insisted the Los Angeles music ceremony was "unlikely" to receive a waiver, halting potential picket action, earlier this week. Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent and Jon Bon Jovi have reportedly pledged their allegiance to the WGA members, who have been on strike since November over new media royalties. The stars have vowed not to cross picket lines. The organizers of the Golden Globe Awards failed to get a waiver from the WGA earlier this month, resulting in the cancellation of Sunday's Golden Globes awards ceremony.

Blige Denies Link to Steroid Investigation

15 January 2008 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Mary J. Blige has slammed reports linking her to a steroid investigation in the U.S., insisting she has never taken the performance-enhancing drug. The Grammy award-winning star, 50 Cent, Timbaland, Wyclef Jean and actor Tyler Perry have all been accused of ordering steroids or human growth hormone from doctors and pharmacists. Albany County District Attorney David Soares named the celebrities who featured in his investigation on Sunday. But Blige vehemently denies any involvement. The singer's spokeswoman Karynne Tencer tells the New York Daily News, "Mary J. Blige has never taken any performance-enhancing illegal steroids." Authorities have uncovered no evidence the celebrities violated any drug laws.
