Rodin was involved in a controversial relationship with a fellow sculptor that he took under his guidance. Her name was
Camille Claudel and they began a torrid affair which was destined not to flourish as Rodin was married. Camille Claudel never got over this and she was eventually committed to an institution for over 30 years where she died in 1943 with her family refusing to take her back home. It was felt at the time that Rodin had disowned her and this played a key part in her downfall.
