What is faith, if not hope, persevering? After all, the foundation of the spiritual, unifying medium was built upon the hope for a better tomorrow—something that is so well emulated by the biographical drama Cabrini, which revolves around the life and exploits of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini. In late 19th-century America, fighting against the impossible odds of bigoted bureaucracy and a hatemongering populace who perceived immigrant Italian-Americans as second-class citizens, Mother Cabrini created a safe haven for the impoverished refugees, who ultimately created the socio-economic backbone of the Land of Liberty. Eventually, the influence of Mother Cabrini’s benevolent deeds spread across the globe, and her wish to build an ‘Empire of Hope’ by serving the underprivileged, destitute section of the worldwide populace was fulfilled.
Cabrini presents the story of Mother Cabrini in the form of a historical period piece, which helps viewers better get acquainted with the tribulations of the period.

Kevin Costner starred as John Dutton on Paramount Network’s original neo-Western drama series Yellowstone, created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson. The series recounts the story of family drama that follows along the shared borders of the Yellowstone Ranch, the Broken Rock Indian reservation, Yellowstone National Park, and land developers.
The show opened with a mixed response from critics, but it was reported that the show had become one of the most-watched television series in 2018, just behind AMC’s The Walking Dead. The series is in its fifth season, which has been split into two installments, with the second installment scheduled to premiere in November 2024. Kevin Costner’s performance as John Dutton has been highly lauded in the series, and the actor talked about voicing a very unexpected character.

To quote a famous lyric from the musical Hamilton, immigrants get the job done. That message seems to be getting lost in the current wave of anti-immigrant sentiment sweeping the nation, if not the world. But it receives a timely reminder in Cabrini, the new drama about Francesca Cabrini, the Catholic missionary who arrived on our shores in 1889 and eventually established enough schools, orphanages and hospitals to form a veritable charitable empire. She became the first U.S. citizen to be canonized, in 1946, 29 years after her death. (And she’s apparently still performing miracles to this day, since she’s billed as one of the film’s executive producers.)
The film arrives courtesy of Angel Studios and director Alejandro Monteverde, both responsible for last year’s surprise, controversial smash hit about child sex trafficking, Sound of Freedom. This effort will likely prove far less divisive, if also less commercial. An old-fashioned,...

As is the case with Roman Reigns in modern WWE, sometimes a champion’s reign lasts way too long. But the opposite can also be true. Somebody could get a big title win and only hold onto the belt for a few weeks, possibly even days, before being forced back to square one. For one reason or another, there are a select group of wrestlers in WWE who dropped the title way earlier than they should have.
On this list of wrestlers who needed more time with their championships, we will not be including those who were forced to vacate due to injury. It seems too easy an answer, so here’s an honorable mention for Finn Balor, Daniel Bryan, Edge, and the rest of the champs who had to vacate the belt for physical reasons.

When the Frasier reboot was originally announced, one of the things most fans wondered about centered around Martin Crane. John Mahoney portrayed Martin, Dr. Frasier Crane’s father, for the entirety of the original series.
While fans would have loved to see Mahoney back in the iconic role, the star died in 2018 from cancer. The reboot has done a great job of honoring his memory. But the loss is still felt, especially by Kelsey Grammer. Grammer, who plays the role of Frasier, choked back tears while discussing John Mahoney on a recent talk show appearance.

Grammer and Mahoney’s characters were like water and oil on Fraiser. The two characters’ tense connection did not mimic Grammer and Mahoney’s relationship off-screen. They were incredibly close. Mahoney became something of a stand-in father for Grammer, whose...

One of the most memorable characters on the long-running NBC sitcom "Frasier" isn't one of the fussy humans that surround radio psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) but rather his father Martin's (John Mahoney) Jack Russell Terrier, Eddie. Eddie is a fully-fledged character who sometimes seems even more human than his two-legged counterparts, showing love to Martin and the Crane's live-in housekeeper, Daphne (Jane Leeves) while serving as Frasier's arch-nemesis. Portrayed by dog actor Moose and later his son, Enzo, Eddie became a vital part of the series' comedic chemistry. However, there's an old adage about never working with animals or children because they can be difficult and chaotic, and that was often the case on the set of "Frasier."

Michael Mann is back with his new film Ferrari after a hiatus of 8 years. Having closely followed his filmography for years, Michael Mann is one of those directors who has constantly innovated himself and pushed the envelopes of traditional story-telling coupled with the use of new movie technologies. He was one of the first to accept that movies will move to being shot in digital format versus on film at a time when Hollywood was at crossroads whether to accept but he accepted it pretty quickly and moved on. So, my expectations for Ferrari was high and I ended up being quite disappointed. On the surface, Ferrari appears to be a well-made, well-acted and with excellent racing sequences. However, throughout the film, I couldn’t help but feel disinterested and dissatisfied. There was a sense of laziness in terms of making some scenes more exciting to watch. This film had...

Penelope Cruz “cried” because of the “sad energy” in Laura Ferrari’s bedroom. The 49-year-old actress found a visit to the apartment where her ‘Ferrari’ alter ego lived incredibly helpful for informing her role in the biopic because it made her understand how the woman felt following the end of her marriage and the death of her son.She told Empire magazine: “It was a lot of colours that were supposed to be happy but to me it had a very sad energy.“I started to cry, understanding what it would be like for this woman spending so much time hiding in that room, missing her son and missing what she had in that relationship with Enzo.“There was something that happened to in that room and I think it also happened to Michael [Mann, director].”The filmmaker ended up exactly replicating the wallpaper they had found in the bedroom.Penelope said:...

In this week’s episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo gets in the driver’s seat to discuss “Ferrari” with director Michael Mann (“Heat,” “Collateral,” “Ali”). The film is based on the real-life of Enzo Ferrari, founder of Ferrari—the Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, who is played by Adam Driver. It focuses on a particular point in Enzo’s life in 1957 when bankruptcy was looming over the company, and the always-composed Italian carmaker was also experiencing heightened drama in his life due to hidden secrets coming to light.

Michael Mann’s Ferrari has raced onto screens this holiday season. The director enjoyed his time working with his star Adam Driver and will even work with him again on his next film, Heat 2. Ferrari garnered a 74% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes with our own Chris Bumbray saying in his review, “While I assume Mann might have originally planned a more ambitious, sprawling Ferrari biopic, I’m not sure that one was needed. This does the trick pretty well, with it also, as usual for the director, impeccably shot. It’s a very enjoyable, entertaining look at one of the most important names in 20th-century automobiles and an often thrilling depiction of just how dangerous a sport of auto racing can be.” You can read the rest of his review Here.

Throughout his 40-plus year career, filmmaker Michael Mann has accumulated and proliferated many colorful phrases and bite-sized poetic philosophy. One of his most favored is the phrase "time is luck." The sentiment refers to how every second one can breathe — to ambulate and interact with the world around them, to manipulate and change it and, in turn, be changed by it — is an opportunity and a blessing.
Mann's personal and professional philosophies were heavily influenced by his time researching and befriending men who operated on both sides of the law, and he found that law enforcement officers as well as lifelong criminals tend to have an innate sense of a ticking clock in their lives. While the bulk of Mann's filmography deals with cops, criminals, and crime, there are several notable outliers — "The Keep," "The Last of the Mohicans," "The Insider," and especially "Ali" — that point the way to his...

And what’s that zooming toward the multiplex? Why, it’s yet another true-life sports film, and it’s comin’ in hot. Yes, it’s a whole lot faster than the rowing movie, as it is set in the world of auto racing. And unlike the other racing flick this year, Gran Turismo, there’s no video gaming involved as the bulk of it takes place over sixty-five years ago. Oh, and the director of this new film has been making some of the most interesting and stylish action epics over the last five decades. He’s focused on one year in a man’s life synonymous with the sport, so it could be considered a biography. Even after all this time that name resonates throughout the world in general. Sure it’s now a brand name, but behind all the iconic autos was the man named Enzo Ferrari.

It is almost like a Shakespearean drama with a lot of cool action,” says two-time Oscar-winning film editor Pietro Scalia of Michael Mann’s new Ferrari, which is based on the biography Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine and explores the life of the eponymous automaker (played by Adam Driver) as he struggles personally and professionally in 1957.
In his first pairing with the director, Scalia — who won his Oscars for JFK (shared with Joe Hutshing) and Black Hawk Down — emphasizes that while thrilling race scenes were created, Mann’s focus was first on character and key relationships, like those between Enzo and Laura (Enzo’s wife, portrayed by Penélope Cruz) and Enzo and Lena (his lover, portrayed by Shailene Woodley). “I remember that he loved to see the contrast between how Driver would play his character in front of Laura or with his mother or with Lena,...

Based on Brock Yates' book "Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine," Michael Mann's new biopic "Ferrari" follows the famous Italian car maker through a significant four-month portion of his life wherein his wife Laura (Penélope Cruz) learns about a secret mistress (Shailene Woodley) and son that he had been hiding for years. His company is also on the brink of bankruptcy and a Ferrari vehicle will have to win the 1957 Mille Miglia, a notable Italian car race, to put the company back on the map. In Mann's usual style, "Ferrari" is terse and distant, and the title character, played by Adam Driver, comes across as aloof and robotic; it's hard to imagine this man being passionate enough to maintain one marriage, let alone an entire secret secondary family.

Ava DuVernay and Michael Mann go way back. In 2003, DuVernay was a publicist on the set of Mann’s “Collateral.” Watching the auteur shoot in her old stomping grounds of East Los Angeles gave her the idea to pick up the camera. “That made me think, ‘Wow, this is possible,’” recalls DuVernay, sitting opposite the Oscar-nominated Mann to discuss where their careers have taken them in the 20 years since.
Now, DuVernay, an Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmaker, tackles her most complex story yet with “Origin,” a sprawling yet intimate adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.” The biographical drama follows Wilkerson (portrayed by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor) as she writes her book at the same time that she grapples with her grief over a series of deaths. Meanwhile, after three decades, Mann accomplished his dream of bringing race car magnate Enzo Ferrari’s story to the big screen.

Our own Chris Bumbray came away with a positive impression of Ferrari in his recent review, where he stated that it “adds up to a three-dimensional portrait of the man through one very short period in his life…This does the trick pretty well…It’s a very enjoyable, entertaining look at one of the most important names in 20th-century automobiles and an often thrilling depiction of just how dangerous a sport of auto racing can be.” You can read the full review Here.

From his John Dillinger film “Public Enemies” to his long awaited racing drama “Ferrari,” Michael Mann is no stranger to making films about prominent historical figures. But the director has no interest in conventional biopics that document a subject’s entire life.
While discussing his decades-spanning quest to make “Ferrari” with The Guardian, Mann explained that he never considered directing a film about Enzo Ferrari’s overarching life story. Instead, his film follows a 59-year-old Ferrari (Adam Driver) as he attempts to salvage his racing empire as his personal life crumbles around him.
“I wouldn’t have been interested in some lengthy biopic,” Mann said. “Those are documentaries that belong on the History Channel. They never work. And within this four-month period, all the dynamic forces of Enzo’s life are compacted and in collision.”
Mann also explained that Ferrari’s tendency to avoid leaving his hometown further condensed the...

In Entertainment Weekly's 1993 cover story on Moose, the beloved Jack Russell Terrier that played Eddie on "Frasier," the dog was described as "the hottest pooch to be unleashed on the airwaves in years." The story itself was proof of Moose's popularity — what other TV pet was getting an EW cover story? On the show, Eddie belonged to Frasier's dad, Martin (John Mahoney), and was just as beloved by the characters in the series as he was by the audience. The only character that wasn't too fond of Eddie was Dr. Frasier Crane himself.
Moose appeared in 192 episodes of "Fraiser," with his son, Enzo, also standing in as Eddie in the later seasons. As such, he was arguably just as integral a part of the series as any other member of the ensemble cast, and one of the best characters on "Frasier." The preshoot rituals they can’t live without, the studio negotiations they’ve learned to finesse and the creative choices they still can’t believe they got away with — the directors of six of this year’s most remarkable movies got together and talked shop. In November, Blitz Bazawule (The Color Purple), Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Ava DuVernay (Origin), Greta Gerwig (Barbie), Todd Haynes (May December) and Michael Mann (Ferrari) convened for THR’s annual Director Roundtable.
How do you like to start on set? Do you actually call action?
Greta Gerwig I guess I say, “When you’re ready.” It seems less aggressive.
Ava Duvernay I call action. Or I have action called. It took me a long time in my filmmaking to feel confident not to be the one calling action. Now I’ll just tap my Ad, and he or she will do it. But I find it...

Imagine a hard-working man who delivers parcels and couriers to make ends meet. Now take a guess on what would happen if someone told him that he’s the heir to trillions of dollars, making the richest person on the planet? John (Philip Froissant) of One Trillion Dollars dealt with a similar situation when an old man arrived at his doorstep to tell him that he might be the potential heir to an estate. The old man also handed him two thousand euros in exchange for his saliva for a DNA check and for not working while his inheritance claim was settled. At first, John thought the old man was just a nutjob, as he was an orphan with no family or relatives to inherit anything from. Adam Driver’s lowkey visit to Poland’s EnergaCamerimage Film Festival turned into a viral internet meme over the weekend after the actor gave an expletive response to a question during an audience Q&a following a screening of Ferrari.
Marek Zydowicz, the festival’s director and founder, has now shared a statement in response to the viral clip, which has been the center of much discussion on the ground here in Torun.
“As is the case with any film festival featuring open conversations with invited artists, both sensible and completely trivial questions and comments. In my opinion, the question raised during the Q&a with Adam Driver belonged to the second category,” Zydowicz’s statement read. “It was an assessment, lacking deeper reasoning, which is against the spirit of our festival and the work we are aiming to achieve.”

As the "Frasier" revival continues, so do the allusions to the titular doctor's past. We've had the references to "Cheers," we've had the touching tribute to Martin actor John Mahoney. We're soon to see some beloved characters from the original "Frasier" return. But what we've really been waiting for is some canine energy.
On the original "Frasier," that energy was provided by Moose, Hollywood trainer Mathilde DeCagney's terrier who played Martin's beloved Jack Russell, Eddie. Moose's son, Enzo, also stood in for his father. Perhaps more than any main character in "Frasier," Eddie cut through Frasier's snootiness simply by virtue of being a dog whose needs the lovably pretentious doctor was simply unwilling to accommodate. At least, that's how things start out. By the end of the 11th and final season of "Frasier," the titular psychiatrist softened on Eddie, and the two become pals in one of the many...

James Franco will play a U.S. Navy sailor stationed in post-World War II Naples, where he fathers a child, in gritty Italian drama “Hey Joe.” Directed by Claudio Giovannesi, the film is now shooting in the southern port city.
Franco, who has recently been taking roles outside the U.S. following a now-settled 2019 lawsuit alleging that he sexually exploited young women who took his acting class, will be speaking both English and Italian to play the lead in “Hey Joe,” said producer Carlo Degli Esposti, head of Italy’s prominent Palomar shingle. Degli Esposti added that Palomar got a waiver from SAG-AFTRA for Franco to work on the film “since we are an indie production.”
In “Hey Joe,” Franco plays Dean Barry, an American sailor who in 1944, at age 23, disembarks in Naples which has been destroyed by bombing. He falls in love with a young, very poor, local woman named Lucia.

While our first look at “Ferrari” released in late August featured lots of revving and flashes of Rosso Corsa but almost no dialogue whatsoever, a new trailer released Wednesday morning affords a deeper look into Michael Mann’s red-hot racing biopic slated for a Christmas Day release.
It’s 1957, and Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver), founder of the world’s most iconic automotive and racing brand, is facing a crisis – win the 1,000-mile Mille Miglia, or face dissolution of his still-fledgling company.
We also see quite a bit more of Ferarri’s growing personal crisis as he struggles to hold together his marriage to his wife Laura (Penelope Cruz) as mistress Lina (Shailene Woodley) tries to get him to accept their son. The “Heat” and “The Insider” filmmaker only gave us visual flashes in this summer’s teaser trailer, but this new, fuller version (see above) hits on all cylinders.

Italians and fast cars simply go together like, well, Italians and pasta. Or like Italians and wine. Basically, Italians have cornered the market in all the world's coolest stuff, is what I'm saying. That certainly holds true for "Ferrari," director Michael Mann's production about the man responsible for building the most prolific and widely-admired car manufacturer ever based in that little boot-shaped country. Mann fans have been looking forward to the acclaimed filmmaker's take on the story of Enzo Ferrari for quite some time now, especially since the stylistic storyteller knows exactly how to make all the most dangerous pursuits look impossibly cool -- even as they function as cautionary tales, at the same time.
"Ferrari" sure seems to be of a piece with the rest of Mann's filmography to this point, boasting one heck of a talented actor in the lead role along with all the daring action...

“What was so interesting to me about it was the compression of all the dynamics of these tempestuous lives in three months,” explained director Michael Mann about what drew him to the true story in “Ferrari.” And “the more specific one got into that culture and these people and their psyche, I think the more universal the whole picture became.” “Ferrari” was selected as the closing night film at the 61st New York Film Festival, which concluded on October 15. Another year, another film where Adam Driver plays a major figure in modern Italian history. In "Ferrari," he takes on the role of Enzo Ferrari, father of one of the most prestigious car manufacturers in Italy, as he struggles to navigate an uncertain future for his company as well as difficulties in his personal relationships. Michael Mann brings his trademark ability to blend pathos and action to the film, equally adept at capturing the high drama of racing and the deeper emotional interpersonal complications. Driver offers a steely, commanding performance in the lead role, but it is Penelope Cruz's devastating performance as his wife Laura that walks away with the film.
