Sergeant (Jio Cinema)
Set in present-day London and shot with a pain-lashed intensity, Prawaal Raman’s Sergeant is partly a police procedural, partly a father-son conflict drama. But largely it is the story of a man so inured in his own pain and suffering that he actually seems to enjoy them.
Quite often in this intriguing drama of the doomed, I wondered what Randeep Hooda’s alcoholic cop Nikhil Sharma would be without his trauma. He would have no excuse to get drunk and abuse his father(Arun Govil) and his colleague and friend at the precinct Haider Ali (Adil Hussain) whom Nikhil suspects of being in cohoots with those criminals who destroyed his life and fastened his fate to pain . And that includes an amputated leg which leaves Nikhil, not wrongly, embittered about the people close to him, including Haider who for some strange reason refers to Nikhil’s...

"It's a cat and mouse game where there is an intellectually stimulating chase equally juggled between the protagonist and the antagonist, both of whom are equally intelligent. Normally something like an upcoming Hindi language remake of surprise horror hit Oculus would pass me by because, frankly, most such films are pretty awful. However, I have a couple of very compelling reasons to pay attention to the June 2nd release of Dobaara. Dobaara, directed by Indian filmmaker Prawaal Raman, is the above-mentioned Oculus remake, and by the look of this trailer, they are going to follow the original film pretty closely. Indian horror in general is a very mixed bag, with only a few films really having stuck out over the last decade or so, but Dobaara's cast is impressive enough that I'm going to give it a shot. Leading the cast is the duo of Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem. Saleem has featured...

At one point in this jigsaw puzzle that often leaves us….well, puzzled, Randeep Hooda playing Charles Sobhraj turns us to comment, ‘The escape should be so spectacular that a movie should be made about it.’
Well, surprise surprise. That’s what the talented director Prawaal Raman has done.
Raman attempts to piece together the seductive life of Charles Sobhraj. It’s an uphill task. And one that required reams of rigorous research, an actor who could define and own Sobhraj’s seductive charms and a certain detachment from Sobhraj’s scheming intellect to ensure we don’t get sucked into his deceptions.
This detachment is achieved in the plot by making the Delhi cop Amod Kanth who nabbed Sobhraj, the hero of the show. Not that Sobhraj plays the villain. But yes, his cool quotient, conveyed by Randeep Hooda in rationed doses, is ruthlessly challenged and thwarted by Adil Hussain...

The official trailer of Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadda starrer crime-thriller-drama “Main Aur Charles” has been out. The trailer is very interesting and you should not miss it at any cost, after all, we are going to watch such fantastic crime thriller after a very long time. (Last thriller that I loved was Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi starrer “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai”). The film is directed by Prawaal Raman and produced by Raju Chadha, Amit Kapoor and Vikram Khakhar.
The film revolves around Charles Shobhraj, a French serial killer of Vietnamese and Indian origin, and how he encountered by Indian police. The trailer shows Charles’ manipulative, charming, enigmatic, mysterious, intelligence, hypnotic and dangerous personality in a very good way. Randeep Hooda is playing the role of Charles and he is looking superb as the enigmatic con man and a vicious killer in the trailer.

Rahul's debut film to be entitled Bad will be produced by Rahul's sister Pooja Bhatt. Confirming these developments, Pooja says, "The script is being worked on. We will decide the director once the script is done." Interestingly, Bad was the title that Pooja Bhatt had chosen for the film based on Charles Sobhraj's Tihar jailbreak that Prawal Raman was directing for her. Prawal and Pooja had a fall-out. Pooja quit the project and took away the title. Bad, according to sources, would feature Rahul Bhatt in a grey role.

Randeep Hooda who plays the lead role in Sajid Nadiadwala’s directorial debut Kick has to put on 10kgs in a month. Where Randeep had lost kilos while shooting for Prawal Raman’s next project, he has made a new strategy to gain weight for Sajid Nadiadwala.
When Sajid first saw Randeep he was not happy with the lean physique Randeep had and asked him to gain weight. Randeep says, “When Sajid saw me, he realised that I was looking lean and he did not want my character to look like that in his film. I will have to work really hard and put on 10 kg in such less time. It is quite tasking to continuously lose and gain weight. I will have to make changes in my diet and workout regime to do justice to the character.”

There is nothing better on Halloween than watching a scary film. It gets even better if it is a spooky, bone chilling, terrifying Bollywood film. With the spine tingling themes of haunted abandoned havelis (mansions), reincarnation, revenge of the dead and wandering lost spirits – who said that Bollywood only told romantic tales?
You may recall the chillingly melancholic ‘Aayega Aane Waala’ sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
Yes – this was the the first time Bollywood truly met the “horror” genre through Kamal Amrohi’s box office smash hit, Mahal (1949). Starring Ashok Kumar and Madhubala in the lead, Mahal was the very first Hindi film to explore the theme of re-incarnation. In the style of a thriller, Mahal pioneered the way for Gothic Indian fiction.

Mumbai, May 1: Director Dibakar Banerjee wonders why a lot of filmmakers aren't attempting anthologies like "Bombay Talkies". He feels that the concept is beneficial for filmmakers as well as for audiences.
In 2006, Ram Gopal Varma's "Darna Zaroori Hai" featured six stories by six different directors - J.D. Chakravarthy, Manish Gupta, Prawal Raman, Sajid Khan, Jijy Philip and Vivek Shah. In 2007, "Dus Kahaniyaan" was a similar sort of project.
Now comes "Bollywood Talkies", an amalgamation of four short films by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Banerjee. It releases Friday.
"I am very surprised that.

Mumbai, April 26: The war of the Charles Sobhraj epics has just begun. Even as Dar Motion Pictures have acquired the rights to film Farrukh Dhondy's book "Bikini Murders", allegedly based on the life and crimes of Charles Sobhraj, news comes that another Sobhraj film is all set to go on the floors this July.
This one entitled "Bad" (earlier entitled "Jailbreak") would be produced by Pooja Bhatt and directed by Prawal Raman, who directed thriller "404".
And hear this. "Bad", Raman clarifies, is not about Sobhraj.
"I am not interest in Sobhraj. A man who spent 40 years of his life in jail doesn't interest me. It is his daredevil prison escape from Tihar jail in Delhi in 1986 that gripped me. My film is based on Sobhraj's.

1. Pyaar Ka Punchnama: The year’s sleeper success that kept us awake for a good 2 hours with its celluloid anthem of ribtickling misogyny. Three room-mates and their troubled love relationships formed the core of the comic conflict. Every character and each episode spilled over with a delightful déjà vu. Debutant director Luv Ranjan managed a 3-guys-in-a-sexist-soup comedy much better than Madhur Bhandarkar in Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji. And the director did it with untried actors. Kartik Tiwari(who is now doing the same director’s nextSaathi) and Divyendu Sharma(who is in David Dhawan’s Chashme Buddoor) were among the best discoveries of the year.We luv you,Luv, for bringing push to shove without tripping over.

John Abraham is in a hurry to start Force 2. It is, after all, his only hit in years. However, it seems the star would have to wait. The project goes nowhere without the Force director Nishikant Kamat. And Kamat is at the moment in the mood to act again.
After a startling sterling performance in Prawal Raman's 404 last year, Nishikant will now play the central character in Rohit Jugraj's film exploring a criminal mind.
Kamat will play a twisted mind that treats criminality as an art form. If John Abraham was hoping to cash in on Force's success, he would have to wait for a while. Quite a while. All that talk of producer Vipul Shah going ahead with the sequel without director Nishikant Kamat if the need arises, has come to a dead-end.

Onir’s I Am has already gained pre-release reputation as the first crowd-sourced film in Hindi cinema. Laudable achievement indeed! If that gave him the independence to make the kind of film he wanted, this development bodes well for crowd sourcing. It is a testimony to the integrity of the artist to have molded that energy into something meaningful. For a strategic Saturday night viewing in Los Angeles, the film brought full theater and loud applause in the end, bright signs for the kind of film it is and for Onir himself, whose presence was sorely missed.
