Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch is known for showing the dangers of crab fishing in Alaska. But the show also delves into the lives of the fisherman aboard the large fishing vessels. Unfortunately, a few cast members have died of drug overdoses through the years. Here are two Deadliest Catch cast members who died from overdosing.

Nick McGlashan was a seventh-generation fisherman who died at 33 years old due to a deadly mix of meth, cocaine, and fentanyl. The Deadliest Catch star died in December 2020.
Investigator Krista Hammonds for Nashville’s Center for Forensic Medicine filed a report after his death. According to The Sun, “this 33-year-old male was found unresponsive in the bathroom of his hotel room,” and “the decedent had a known history of illicit drug abuse.” The report added that there was “drug paraphernalia nearby.

Discovery Channel’s reality TV series, Deadliest Catch, continues to captivate fans in season 19. The show follows crab fishermen heading out into the Bering Sea during the height of the crab seasons in Alaska. And fans have gotten to know the young Sean Dwyer through the years. Unfortunately, Dwyer’s dealt with some trouble with the law in the past. Here’s what went down.

At just 31 years old, Sean Dwyer made a name for himself on Deadliest Catch. The young captain led the F/V Brenna A after serving as an engineer on Brenna A’s sister vessel, the Jennifer A. He became a crab captain in season 12 and has been aiming to make his father, Pat Dwyer, proud ever since.

Discovery Channel is headed back out to sea. Deadliest Catch returns in April 2023 with new episodes featuring a mix of seasoned skippers and novice fishermen who are trying their luck in the Bering Sea.
‘Deadliest Catch’ Season 19 premieres April 18
The 19th season of Deadliest Catch premieres Tuesday, April 18 at 8 p.m. Et on Discovery Channel. The super-sized two-hour premiere will also be available to stream the same day on discovery+.
In the latest season of the long-running reality series, rising Alaskan Crab prices have both newcomers and experienced captains hoping to score a big payday. But those sky-high prices, combined with tensions with Russia and China, are fueling illegal fishing. Veterans and newbies will have to band together to defend their fishing grounds if they hope to thrive in a competitive and dangerous industry.

For anybody who's sick of hearing about Beauty Day around here, don't worry...it's almost over! The life cycle of the film has now entered the 'home video' stage, which means it's just about dead (or depending on your perspective, about to be 'reborn'?). So for all of you who haven't had a chance to see it yet (which is a lot of you), here's an opportunity to own your very own copy on glorious DVD! (Note: at this point there are no blu ray plans. Sorry.) As an avid DVD/Blu Ray collector, I must say that I'm pretty proud of this release as it's absolutely Stacked with lots of great bonus features, including an audio commentary track featuring a couple Film Junk regulars. On top of that, we've got a bunch of deleted scenes that are actually good enough to have been included in the film, And some original Cap'n Video Show clips!

A while back we had Sean Dwyer and Jay Cheel from Film Junk guest host our podcast, and Jay let us in on some info about his latest documentary titled Beauty Day. We’ve been closely following the doc about a cable access television show, The Cap’n Video Show, a show which ran from 1990 to 1995, spawning a small but loyal cult following. The documentary followed the show’s star Ralph Zavadil, an icon of early 90’s public access TV in Southern Ontario and his rise and fall from fame. Mike recently had a chance to review the film and also interview Jay so if you haven’t checked it out yet, you should. In the meantime I found the first and I believe only clip from the film online, giving us a look at two of the main characters, Ralph (aka Cap’n Video) and his best friend Robert.

Every few months, a group of film writers get together around a virtual table to talk movies. I’ve missed the discussion of the last few episodes of the Movie Club Podcast but was lucky enough to find the time recently to join the crew (Film Junk’s Sean Dwyer, The Documentary Blog’s Jay Cheel, Where The Long Tail Ends' James Gillham and Row Three’s Kurt Halfyard) for a discussion on two strange little films that I think Qe readers will be interested in.
The titles in question for the latest edition of the podcast are Takashi Miike’s bizarre Visitor Q and Gaspar Noé’s Irreversible.
The discussion is always lively but it’s particularly interesting this time around with two polarizing titles and the talk wonders from breast milk snow angels to, you know it’s coming, CG penises. Oh yes, it’s all here. Aren't you glad I shared?...

It's a slow news day, so why not report on things as obvious as the announcement that Jason Segel will indeed star in The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time, which he co-wrote and has been developing since day one. And why not acknowledge that it's an "exclusive." Well, okay, Segel didn't have to appear in the movie, even if he's a popular star of TV and movies. Just as we couldn't be sure that Woody Allen would appear in a Muppet movie he wrote, neither could we have reasonably bet our house on Segel being the star of this one.
Meanwhile, I've got my own exclusive breaking news to report: I'm writing a post on Pajiba. I know, I've been doing them for awhile, but it wasn't confirmed that I'd be writing a post today. So, there you have it. Let the blogging on that begin. And maybe I'll...

You've already seen Dustin's ranking of the five best Super Bowl commercials from last night. Notice that none of them are movie previews? That's because the trailers shown during the big game both sucked and were for the most part old. And they were for films you really couldn't give two burning, post-Super Bowl Sunday shits about, like The Last Airbender and, umm, The Back-Up Plan. Since when do football fans like J.Lo rom-coms about sperm-donor pregnancy?
What Hollywood needs to do, besides saving any money it's thinking about spending on movies like The Back-Up Plan and advertising of such movie, is go outside the box in their Super Bowl spots. If you're going to spend the $3 million for the time, spend a lil more and get Russell Crowe and his Merry Men to do a non-clip preview for Robin Hood in which they're playing football against Prince John and his army.

Typically I write the intros to these Blog Trend roundups before I've read the majority of the blogs I quote. So, before listing the buzz below I had written all about how unfunny the red-band trailer for MacGruber is and how surprised I am that such a terrible-looking movie is getting so much attention. I've since erased my first intro and replaced it with this stunned-reaction paragraph, because the movie bloggers are actually, shockingly eating this up like a double-decker taco (and I mean a watery, shit-comprised taco in honor of the overrated joke in the trailer). Even the usually very snarky and super cynical guys like Vince Mancini are into this thing. Wtf?
I don't agree with the majority, I guess. I especially thought it wrong for Universal/Rogue to unleash this piece of crap on the heels of this weekend's hilarious SNL short "James Cameron's Laser Cats...

I like to play devil's advocate sometimes, and so I'll always take an opportunity to disagree with Dustin solely for the purpose of introducing a Blog Trends roundup. But this time it's easy. I have nothing bad to say about Ivan Reitman and I look forward to his fourth take on the Ghostbusters franchise.
Yes, fourth, because I've always accepted Evolution as basically a remake of Ghostbusters, only with aliens -- or whatever you'd consider them -- rather than ghosts.
Maybe it helps that I've never seen My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Fathers' Day, Six Days Seven Nights or Junior. All I know is Dave is the best Shakespearean comedy sort of political satire ever made (I think). And, though I'll certainly get a lot of shit for saying this, I like Twins more than Stripes. Seriously, what's funny about a bootcamp farce that's more Lol than the idea of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito being twins?...

Disaster movie 2012 inspired panic in the States with Nasa having to reassure Americans that the world wasn't about to end. Is movie viral marketing getting too clever for its own good?
When Columbia Pictures launched a marketing campaign for 2012 – the latest disaster movie from serial Earth molester Roland Emmerich, where the planet, played by America, is set for impending doom – they didn't do it by halves.
First, there was a teaser trailer showing a tsunami crashing over the Himalayas. The Earth was going to end in 2012, it said, and the world's governments aren't doing enough to prepare us. Search "2012", it said, for "the truth" (the "truth" turned out to be over 1,000 real websites and 175 real books obsessed with 2012 as the end of time).
Then, there was a fake website – the "Institute for Human Continuity" – which consisted of a screen stating that for 25 years they'd been assessing threats to the continuation of mankind,...
