Arguably one of today's most innovative celebrity hair stylists, Brian Benedict Badie (Hair Stylist/Department Head Hair) is a driving force in film and television. Born and raised in New Orleans, Brian has always considered himself an artist in every realm - music, art, fashion and dance. His innovation comes to life in a host of critically acclaimed television series and blockbuster films.
Most recently his work can be seen in the biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody, starring Naomi Ackie, Nafessa Williams and Stanley Tucci for Sony; Netflix's true crime drama The Good Nurse, starring Jessica Chastain, Eddie Redmayne and Ajay Naidu; HBO's Lovecraft Country, starring Jonathan Majors, the late Michael Kenneth Williams, Jurnee Smollett, Aunjanue Ellis and Courtney B. Vance; the third season of HBO's True Detective, starring Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo and Stephen Dorff, for which Badie was nominated for an Emmy; and Girls Trip, starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish for Universal Pictures.
In 1984, Badie began attending Louisiana State University where he studied fashion merchandising, but prior to earning his bachelor's degree, he made the radical decision to pursue a full time career as an artist. In 1991 Brian graduated from Moler Beauty College in New Orleans. His hair designs soon caught the eye of legendary hair stylist Robert Louis Stevenson, and before long Brian earned the position of key hair stylist on the feature film Eve's Bayou, directed by Kasi Lemmons. Under Stevenson's mentorship, Badie's career flourished on such projects as Having our Say, starring Diahann Carroll, Ruby Dee and Amy Madigan, and the period piece A Lesson Before Dying with Don Cheadle, Cicely Tyson and Mekhi Phifer and the crime drama The Corner, starring T.K. Carter and Khandi Alexander, both from HBO.
In 2001, Brian relocated to New York City where he debuted as a department head hair stylist with the critically acclaimed film Monster's Ball, starring Halle Berry; Lee Daniels' Shadowboxer, starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Helen Mirren; and the Lionsgate comedy, The Cookout. He then continued to gain experience and opportunities to work on blockbuster films including I Am Legend, starring Will Smith; Spike Lee's Miracle at St. Anna, with Michael Ealy and Derek Luke; and American Gangster, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.
Since becoming a department head, Brian has created hair designs on NBC's Law and Order: SVU for seven seasons, Starz's hit show Power for three seasons, and WGN's record-breaking, compelling series Underground. With the success of Power, Badie became a creative producer on the popular spin- off series Ghost and Force, continuing to design iconic looks for both shows.
Badie's latest project is working for director Melina Matsoukas on Apple TV+'s The Changeling, an adaptation of Victor LaValle's book of the same name, starring LaKeith Stanfield, Clark Backo and Adina Porter.
