I'm Tim Tolka, a screenwriter and author with a journalism problem, based in Mexico City, hailing from the Midwest and the Deep South. I write true crime stories with unlikely detectives and thrillers about iconoclasts who face backlash for doing the right thing.
"Obstructing Town Business," is a feature thriller about how one lawless cop can undermine an entire police department until his victims take the law into their own hands.
In a post-insurrection America, "Mingo" a Western for TV, warns of the disaster of civil war, showing what happened when the shoe was on the other foot. Based on Lon Savage's book "Thunder in The Mountains, "Mingo" is the true story of the assassination of a decadent but incorruptible police chief in West Virginia that inspires a coal miner uprising against an army of private detectives and state cops. Eventually, the U.S. military must quell the brewing civil war, and military tribunals are used to try those responsible for sedition.
"Blue Mafia" (TV legal thriller/police procedural series with three seasons) is the true story of a brash, uncompromising civil rights attorney with PTSD who files a spree of police brutality lawsuits in two towns with longstanding accusations of police brutality, sparking a civil rights investigation and federal takeover of both departments. The series pilot is adapted from Tim Tolka's first book, "Blue Mafia: Police Brutality & Consent Decrees in Ohio."
The book was rated by Book Authority as the 12th Best Police Brutality Book Ever Written and praised by the Midwest Book Review: "Exceptionally well written, impressively organized, effectively presented, "Blue Mafia: Police Brutality and Consent Decrees in Ohio" is basically a local non-fiction story with national implications that reads with all the drama of a suspense thriller novel. Author Tim Tolka has done the entire country a valued service in bringing to print the struggle and achievement of Attorney Richard Olivito."
