Exclusive: Sean Menard (299 Queen Street West) has been set to direct the docuseries The Sneaker Boom, on basketball shoe marketing of the ’90s, for Rtg Features, the sister studio to basketball-focused media company Slam. Rtg Features CEO Aron Phillips is among the producers of the project, which Sean Menard Productions is co-producing.
Currently in post-production, the series is set amidst the NBA’s rise in global popularity during the early ’90s, watching as a group of marketing mavericks and advertising execs bet millions on unproven rookies as they enlist their talents for wildly creative television commercials. As the players grow into superstars, basketball sneakers go from being a niche sportswear product to everyday fashion, en route to becoming a multi-billion-dollar industry.

Sorry, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, the new Clippers are better than you're 'Lob City' boys, that's according to ex-nba Slam Dunk champion Dee Brown, who says the new team is a real force. The Clips are currently #1 in the West (crazy right?) and when we got Brown -- the Gm of the Clippers G-League team -- he told our guy it's no fluke because this team is built differently. "Before we had the Lob City,...

Arthur Penn’s under-appreciated epic has everything a big-scale western could want — spectacle, interesting characters, good history and a sense of humor. Dustin Hoffman gets to play at least five characters in one as an ancient pioneer relating his career exploits — which are either outrageous tall tales or a concise history of the taking of The West.

Beeox studio chief Dee Brown shares some interesting info about working on The Amazing Spider-Man video game, primarily his statements about working closely with Marvel and Sony and the inclusion of the Black Cat leads me to believe that before the Spider-Man reboot is rebooted, we may see the Black Cat on the big screen. Said Brown--- "The fact that our game is based on the movie, and the movie is re-approaching the universe in a completely different way — a more grounded, more realistic approach — gives us an incredible setting to play with.....Because we've based our story After the movie, it's allowed us a world of opportunity from a creative standpoint." Brown said that he met with execs from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios at the early development stage to present and exchange ideas. "They really liked our story, and how we're approaching Gwen and Connors and the relationship...

Quebec-based game developer Beenox are having a sort of hit-and-miss go at licensed "Spider-Man" titles. 2010's "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions" was an enjoyable game, thanks to an engaging story and mechanics that felt fresh. This year's outing, "Spider-Man: Edge of Time," wasn't received so graciously by critics. So while details on the upcoming comic-turned-movie-turned-game "The Amazing Spider-Man" are slim, today we get our first glimpse at some concept art.
Thanks to Beenox studio head Dee Brown's twitter feed (via SuperHeroHype), we can gaze longingly at three rather attractive conceptual paintings.
The first picture shows what appears to be a lobby—or maybe front entrance—of the Oscorp Industries building. It was revealed back in May that the Green Goblin's front business would somehow work into the "Amazing Spider-Man" film, thanks to some pics snapped on set in New York City.

Johnny Depp was nowhere to be seen at this month's epic Royal Wedding, and as it turns out, his omission from the guest list could have been a major snub. He is, after all, probably part of the family.
According to Nick Barratt, a genealogist for the BBC show "Who Do You Think You Are," Depp is likely 20th cousins with Queen Elizabeth, with the connection being a shared great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather.
The connection, Barratt told The Daily Mirror, requires one to go back 600 years to an unconfirmed marriage in the 1400's in Yorkshire, England; while that may seem tenuous, given the terrific documentation of Depp's long line of English and French ancestors, Barratt said, "I believe the balance of probability is that there is indeed a link between Depp and the royals...

Johnny Depp hopes to make a big-screen version of The Lone Ranger soon, but the masked guy who ends up yelling “Hi-yo, Silver!” better get used to being the sidekick.
This is sounding like Tonto’s movie.
“I remember watching it as a kid, with Jay Silverheels and Clayton Moore, and going: ‘Why is the f—ing Lone Ranger telling Tonto what to do?’” Depp tells EW, recalling the 1949-1957 TV show, which was seen decades longer in reruns. “I liked Tonto, even at that tender age, and knew Tonto was getting the unpleasant end of the stick here. That’s stuck with me.

Last week we told you that Activision and franchise lead developer Beenox would be officially announcing the next "Spider-Man" game at this weekend's WonderCon in San Francisco. Apparently, they were all just to excited about the new game to wait. And so today brings the announcement of "Spider-Man: Edge of Time," a follow-up of sorts to last year's solid Spidey continuity jumper, "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions" (pictured).
"Edge of Time" has the wall-crawler facing "one of his greatest challenges ever - saving Spider-Man." Much like "Shattered Dimensions," the new game will jump back and forth between different Spidey story continuities that have been established in the comics. The previous game spanned four different threads; "Edge of Time" only covers two: Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099. The two Peter Parkers will be working to "correct a timestream gone awry and prevent a catastrophic future brought on by the early and untimely death of Peter Parker.

Marvel and Activision have announced a new video game called Spider-Man: The Edge of Time. They also unleashed the debut art for the game and that gives off a hardcore badass feel. The game will be developed by Beenox studio which is the same gave developed that brought us Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions which was a great Spider-Man game.
The story of the game challenges the player to take on the roles of both classic Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 to correct a timestream gone awry and prevent a catastrophic future brought on by the early and untimely death of Peter Parker.
According to the press release, "The game features all-new "cause-and-effect" gameplay, where players will see how the immediate and sometimes unexpected effects of their actions as one Spider-Man changes the timeline of the other Spider-Man." Now that sounds pretty cool.

Dear Patrick Goldstein, I was very interested in your political analysis of the movie Avatar in the La Times. My left-wing background tells me that culture doesn't change material conditions, but it sure changes consciousness and that's the cradle of new activism. Conservatives are right to be profoundly disturbed about James Cameron's movie. And the media sometimes has difficulty discerning when public attitudes move beyond narrow electoral noise. Like other people I know, I was profoundly moved by two revelations in my life: the first came when reading Dee Brown's Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee about 1970 in Berkeley, a time when the Vietnam war was raging and my conventional assumptions had been shaken to the root. I intuited in a flash that Vietnam was a continuation of the counter-insurgency wars on our Great Plains of the century before,...
