Rudolph Isley, a founding member of the musical group, the Isley Brothers, has died at age 84.
“There are no words to express my feelings and the love I have for my brother. Our family will miss him. But I know he’s in a better place,” said Ronald Isley in a statement.
Rudolph first started singing in church with his brothers Ronald and O’Kelly Isley. He was just a teenager when the group’s hit song, “Shout,” debuted in the 1950s.
The brothers then released “Twist and Shout” in the 1960s, which the Beatles used as the closing song on their debut album.
Other popular Isley Brothers songs include “This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You),” “It’s Your Thing” and “Fight the Power (Part 1).”

The Voice UK kicked off its all-important battles with a two-hour spectacular tonight, as 24 acts got paired up for 12 bouts in the ring. As Sir Tom Jones pointed out, "no biting" and "no kicking" was allowed - instead it was (surprise!) all about the voice.
With each coach being granted two steals this series, it was all to play for, all bets were off and it was all going down to the wire. Right, that's enough sporting phrases - let's get the ball rolling! (Sorry.)

If you were one of the women lucky enough to see Trey Songz live on his "Passion Pain & Pleasure" tour, you may still be recovering from all the sexiness on stage. On the day of his last performance, Trey stopped by radio station Shade 45 to chat with Angela Yee, host of "The Morning After." Yes, Trey discussed his new album about his growth process, and what it's like headlining his own tour. Among the fascinating (and sometimes steamy) tidbits... we found out which artists he listens to when he's having sex: The Isley Brothers and R. Kelly!

Let's get this out of the way first: These aren't necessarily bad songs (except maybe for "All Star," though I sort of like it). In fact, some are well-loved classics by some of the most respected musical artists in history. A few of these are among my favorites.
But somewhere along the line, someone decided that, if their movie contained a certain scene (say, someone arriving in London) it just had to be accompanied by a certain song (in this case, "London Calling" by The Clash). They're almost always played during a montage or a scene with no dialogue, because it's just easier to use a well-known song to say what you want than it is to have to come up with anything original. Not that they aren't very effective when used in great movies, but by and large we're just kind of sick of them being used in films.

The Isley Brothers have lost their groovemaster. Marvin Isley, the youngest of the R&B siblings who provided the thumping bass lines that helped drive the band's chart success in the '70s and early '80s, died Sunday morning. He was 56. Cousin and Isley keyboardist Chris Jasper told the New York Times that Marvin died at an inpatient hospice at Weiss Memorial Hospital, where he had been residing after suffering complications from diabetes. The disease forced Isley to retire in 1996 and cost him his legs, which had to be amputated, and the use of his left hand. He had also been stricken in recent years by high blood pressure and a stroke. In his prime playing days, however,...

Bassist and youngest member of The Isley Brothers, Marvin Isley, died on Sunday morning, June 6 at the age of 56. The New York Times reported that Marvin's death was caused by diabetes, the disease he has fought for more than 20 years.
Marvin passed away at the Seasons Hospice within Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, according to representatives at both facilities. The late musician stopped performing five years after The Isley Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
Marvin's retirement decision was made because of complications from diabetes. By that time, he'd suffered a stroke and had a kidney transplant. Diabetes also led him to have his both legs amputated in 1997 and he, additionally, lost the use of his left hand.
Marvin Isley, who was born on August 18, 1953, joined The Isley Brothers in 1973, when the group who were initially formed with three eldest brothers of Isley expanded to six performers.

It's a sad, sad day here at MTV News. Even as we all recover from last night's Movie Awards, we're forced to confront the cold, harsh reality of another talented artist leaving us too soon. Marvin Isley, The Isley Brothers' bass player, died yesterday in Chicago at the age of 56.
The Isley Brothers were one of the premiere pop funk-soul groups of the '70s, responsible for a range of hits that include "It's Your Thing," "That Lady," "Between the Sheets" (which Notorious B.I.G. famously sampled for Big Poppa) and, of course, "Shout," among many others. They've released more than 30 albums since "Shout!" debuted in 1959. What's more, many of those songs have gone on to put in memorable movie appearances. I've embedded my very favorite, a true classic, after the jump. R.I.P., Marvin... you will be missed.
To be fair, this rendition of "Shout" comes from Otis Day & the Knights,...

The new six-member lineup debuted with 1973's 3+3, which contained such Am soul classics as "That Lady, Pt. 1 & 2" and "What It Comes Down To."
The group continued to have chart success throughout the decade with hit songs like "Fight the Power" and "Between the Sheets," many of which were co-written by Marvin and the other two younger members.

What should the "American Idol" Top 10 sing for the R&B/Soul week? Make your picks here.
Even though Usher kinda spilled the "Idol" mentoring beans over the weekend, it was officially announced during the Wednesday, March 24 results show that he would be mentoring the Top 10 for R&B/Soul week.
We love that R&B/Soul reaches way back into Motown because some of the non-Michael Lynche singers need some oldies thrown in there.
The song list is available here, but here is the whole list:

It’s a crime that there are only a dozen or so films about, or involving, the world of broadcast radio. Not too many actually deal with the tribulations of censorship, though, which is where the upcoming film Pirate Radio comes in.
The film is about a group of rogue DJ’s on a boat in the middle of the Northern Atlantic who broadcast a pirate radio station in the 1960s, despite the laws forbidding Rock and Roll…all for the love of music. Given the fact that the film is all about 60’s Rock, you can believe that the soundtrack is pretty killer, and you may get to win a copy!
