Last year, comic book legend Greg Capullo (Batman) made his long-awaited return to Marvel Comics, and now, after a host of incredible cover art, he's back to gracing the Marvel Universe with his iconic interior artwork.
Capullo will team up with visionary writer Jonathan Hickman (Ultimate Spider-Man) this August in an all-new prestige limited series, Wolverine: Revenge.
The comic will be five issues of pure, unadulterated Wolverine action just in time for the iconic character's 50th anniversary (and the release of Deadpool & Wolverine). If that's not enough, Wolverine: Revenge will also be available as special "Red Band Editions." Like the current Blood Hunt event series, Wolverine: Revenge - Red Band Edition will be polybagged for the protection of innocent eyes/
Inside, it will include exclusive pages and elevated violence!

This Batman article contains spoilers.
Joker continuity is a bit messy by design. Ever since the Clown Prince of Crime declared that he “preferred multiple choice” in Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s seminal 1988 comic Batman: The Killing Joke, it’s been very tough to nail down just what is true and what isn’t about the villain’s origin story. Was the Joker once a failed comedian who went mad after criminals murdered his family and he fell into a vat of chemicals? Maybe. Or was he originally a crime boss known as the Red Hood? Is his real name actually Jack?
Multiple choice has mostly worked well for the Joker, who is meant to be Gotham’s embodiment of true evil. The fact that his story is indecipherable and ultimately unknowable makes him that much scarier of a threat for Batman. But things are getting a little too convoluted now.

Happy New Year, Daily Dead readers! Today, I'm kicking off our annual "Favorites" series with my 2022 picks and you'll see favorites from other Daily Dead team members throughout the week. On this week's episode of Corpse Club, we'll also be discussing 2022 favorites and what we're looking forward to in the new year. Our favorites are a little different from a traditional "Best Of" list and our lists can include anything from movies and streaming shows to collectibles and events. In short, we’re sharing with you a list of our favorite horror experiences from 2022.
This year was interesting for me in that I truly felt I hit that tipping point where more was being released than I could possibly keep up on. If you stick to just watching movies, it's not impossible to check out every horror release, but when you add TV series, video games, and graphic novels, it becomes challenging.

Even the most diehard Flash fan has to admit that evil speedsters are a dime a dozen. For every Barry Allen or Wally West who enters the Speed Force, there’s a Reverse Flash or Black Flash, who use their superspeed to do horrendous harm to reality. So it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to learn that in the 9th and final season of The Flash on The CW, Barry will be facing off against yet another evil speedster: the Red Death.
Say what you will about the saturation of speedsters in the world of The Flash, the origin of the Red Death in more recent DC comics does set the character apart, as does the actor playing Red Death for The CW version: Javicia Leslie, who most recently portrayed the title character on Batwoman. This makes A Lot of sense.

There’s something charmingly accessible about Todd McFarlane and Greg Capullo. Talking to them, you never get the feeling that you’re talking to a multimedia titan of geek culture or one of the most beloved Batman artists of all time, respectively. It feels more like running into two guys tailgating outside an Ozzy Osborne show, inviting you to geek out with them about their comic art collection, shooting the breeze about the car they’re working on together, and periodically dropping preternatural draftsmanship wisdom sprinkled with comic art history. And then McFarlane will say something like, “I’m in the business of cool. Period,” and you suddenly remember that you’re talking to two of the biggest names to ever create comics and that they’re teaming up for a fresh Batman Spawn crossover that is likely to be one of the biggest books of the decade.

New York Comic Con has announced its 2022 panel lineup, which includes a number of notable events taking place throughout the three-day convention.
Toplining the panels is a tribute to 45 years of “Halloween” and Laurie Strode with Jamie Lee Curtis, moderated by “Scream” star Drew Barrymore. The panel – which takes place Saturday, Oct. 8 – will find Curtis discussing her journey with the “Halloween” franchise up through the latest (and final?) installment “Halloween Ends.”
Nycc will also host the first-ever screening of “Violent Night,” a new film from director Tommy Wirkola (“Dead Snow”) that stars David Harbour as Santa Claus who takes on a crew of bad guys who aim to hold a family compound hostage. Coming soon from DC with images unleashed today, two of the biggest characters in comic book history will face off in mashup Batman Spawn from Todd McFarlane and Greg Capullo. After staying out of each other’s way for almost 20 years, the Court of Owls steps in to try to use Spawn to beat Batman in the not to be missed comic available on December 13.
“Look, this is really simple. I get to play with one of the greatest comic characters ever (Batman), get to reunite with amazing artist Greg Capullo, And am able to mix in my own creation (Spawn) into the storyline. Just a year ago, there were fears that San Diego Comic-Con would never regain its relevancy after being shut down by the coronavirus. Would studios still see the value in spending millions for a convention presence in an era in which cons had migrated online? Those worries were assuaged over the weekend, with an event that showed Comic-Con was back — even if the crowds felt slightly smaller and Covid-19 masks outnumbered Spider-Man masks.
Talent and execs who brought projects to San Diego note there is still value in engaging with fans in person, not just behind screens.

With the hype building for Michael Keaton’s return as Batman for The Flash and Batgirl, it’s hard to believe that fans were once outraged at the actor’s casting in the late ’80s. To fans who hated the campy 1960s Batman series, it seemed like an insult to cast a relatively diminutive and wiry comedian best known for manic roles in Beetlejuice and Mr. Mom as the Dark Knight.
Ultimately, many factors contributed to the fans’ change of mind, but none as powerfully as the simple sight of Keaton wearing the Bat-suit for the first time, transforming the energetic oddball into a skulking figure of the night.
That costume continued to evolve when Keaton returned to the role for 1992’s Batman Returns, and especially when Val Kilmer and George Clooney followed in the Joel Schumacher-directed sequels Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. And the suit is evolving...

In March, Warner Bros. and director Matt Reeves are bringing a whole new vision of Gotham City and the Batman mythos to the big screen, with Robert Pattinson starring as a more hyper-violent version of the vigilante.
In fact, we’ve already watched Pattinson dole out beating after savage beating in the trailers leading up to the movie’s release, but when we spoke to him for our The Batman cover story in the new issue of Den of Geek magazine, the actor was excited, even jovial, about where his Dark Knight might go next. Inevitably, the subject of a potential sequel comes up. While WB has yet to officially announce “The Batman 2,” Pattinson already knows which villains he wants to fight in the next movie.

Many mysteries surround The Batman‘s main villain. The movie not only introduces a version of the Riddler unlike any we’ve ever seen, donning a mask and armed with duct tape, but one who also has a deep connection and obsession with Bruce Wayne. What are the ties that bind these two characters together in the film? We don’t know the answer just yet, but trailers have made it clear it goes all the way back to Bruce’s parents and some long buried secret that the Riddler will dig up to destroy his opponent’s life.
But does the Riddler’s plan go even deeper than that? The newest trailer for The Batman teases a catastrophe in Gotham that could change the city forever — and drive the storytelling of director Matt Reeves’ potential sequels. This disaster is also a callback to a major Riddler moment from the...

It’s safe to say there’s never been a DC movie quite like The Flash.
Yes, this is a movie about Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen, the Dceu’s superhero youngster who is still learning the ropes since his team-up with the grown-ups in 2017’s Justice League, but the film is also much bigger than that. Not only will it feature many of the greatest superheroes in comic book history, but it will bring in Batmen from two separate movie universes, as well as Supergirl (Sasha Calle), to team up with the Scarlet Speedster for a multiverse-spanning adventure.
But in a movie as stacked as this one, the biggest draw of all is undoubtedly the return of Michael Keaton as the Burtonverse version of the Dark Knight. It will be the first time Keaton has donned the cape and cowl since 1992’s Batman Returns‘ much grimmer tone killed Tim Burton...

It’s been two years since I reviewed Dark Nights: Metal. That event, by Snyder and Capullo, introduced a dark multiverse that exists alongside the regular DC multiverse, the two connected by various metals. That first event focused mostly on Batman, that being Snyder’s main book at the time, and we got to see several nasty variations of Batman. Which was fun. It was very popular, including all the various tie-ins, so a sequel was inevitable… And boy did we get a sequel!
Taking the ideas of Metal and turning things up to 11, Dark Nights: Death Metal continues the story with aplomb as the Earth is enveloped by the Dark Multiverse, leaving the Justice League at the mercy of the Batman Who Laughs. Humanity struggles to survive in a hellish landscape twisted beyond recognition,...

Mastodon have released a new song, “Forged by Neron,” from the upcoming soundtrack for the comic book series, Dark Nights: Death Metal, which will be released June 18th via DC Comics and Loma Vista Recordings.
The soundtrack is meant to serve as a companion to the series, which was created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, and wrapped its run in January. DC comics fans are in for a real treat with Dark Knights: Metal, a once in a lifetime comic event written by Scott Snyder, penciled by Greg Capullo, inked by Jonathon Glapion, and colored by Fco Plascencia. Metal was published starting in 2017 spanning from June all the way until March, 2018 with a total of 6 issues released on a monthly basis. Metal brought Snyder and Capullo together again after their acclaimed New 52 Batman series, which is a culmination of The Court of Owls, Death of the Family, Zero Year, and Endgame. Later this month, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is hitting HBO Max. Despite the anticipation and a near-guaranteed positive reception from the vocal #ReleaseTheSnyderCut fan contingent, this will likely be Snyder’s last foray in the DC Universe. Indeed, one of the studio’s chief complaints with Snyder’s vision, which they believe impacted box office receipts, was his darker tone when compared with the quippier MCU. However, Snyder’s approach only mirrored many of DC’s most popular storylines, from Frank Miller’s violent The Dark Knight Returns to the on-screen The Dark Knight Trilogy from director Christopher Nolan. Snyder can hardly be blamed for expanding on what audiences were already responding to when it came to DC characters on film.
Less than a decade ago, Warner Brothers was hot off of the success of Nolan’s trio of films that no one would describe as light-hearted or quippy.

James Tynion IV has been writing Batman in some form or another for his entire career. He began his time at DC Comics by writing backup stories for Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman during the New 52 era, fleshing out the history of the villainous Court of Owls before landing his first owl-centric series titled Talon. Tynion was one of the lead writers on Batman Eternal and Batman & Robin Eternal, two weekly series that mainlined years of Batman continuity back into the New 52. And following the Rebirth reset, he got a long run with the Bat family on Detective Comics.
With all that time on the Bat-books, it’s a little surprising to see the deluge of ideas still pouring out of the writer now that he’s got the flagship title all to himself. Tynion took over after Tom King’s 85-issue mega run, and proceeded to pit...

The end of Dark Nights: Death Metal #7 is the last stop of more than a decade of Scott Snyder driving the DC metaverse’s bus. The conclusion to the Dark Nights saga, which started in 2017 with Dark Nights: Metal and ran through an entire Justice League series before concluding here, closes off storylines Snyder and his creative partner Greg Capullo seeded as far back as their first issue of Batman when the New 52 launched.
And with Infinite Frontier and Future State, DC’s next publishing initiatives, on deck, it’s worth taking a look at what Death Metal did so we can try and understand how the pieces fit together. Tom King and Clay Mann’s Batman/Catwoman kicked off its complex thread of mysteries earlier this month. In the present, the Bat and the Cat set out to search for Andrea Beaumont’s missing son, while an older Selina Kyle pays a friend a visit in the future, with the first issue concluding with the return of killer vigilante the Phantasm.
It’s hard to say just where these threads are going after just one issue, but we do know that at least one new character from Bruce and Selina’s future and DC Comics’ past is set to play a major role in this story. As revealed by King and Mann on Twitter, Helena Wayne, the daughter first teased in King and Lee Weeks’ amazing Batman Annual #2 (2017), will don the cape and cowl in the maxi-series.

The beauty of telling stories in a multiverse is the infinite possibility offered by the infinite places and infinite times to set those stories in. DC’s embrace of their multiverse has historically been one of its strongest features, but Crisis on Infinite Earths muted that ability for decades after, and only recently have comics creators started to enthusiastically dive into the concept again. And with Dark Nights: Death Metal wailing towards its conclusion, it looks like DC is set to go head first into the Bleed again.
Future State is the next big DC Comics event. Following the conclusion of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s explosive reintroduction of the infinite multiverse-slash-musing on what might happen if we let evil get a couple of high profile wins in (gee no real world analogue to that story at all no sir), the entire DC line will be taking a pause for two months,...

Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV had a chance to chat up their big current projects as part of Metaverse, this year’s pandemic margarine to New York Comic Con’s butter, and there were some surprising reveals to be had. Most surprising? Snyder spoiled the ending of Dark Nights: Death Metal.
Sort of.
Death Metal is many things. It is primarily the capstone to Snyder’s decade driving the DC line, first as writer of New 52 Batman with Greg Capullo, then on All-Star Batman and the Dark Nights: Metal/Justice League/Death Metal Crisis triptych. It’s the culmination of his partnership with Capullo, whose collaboration and friendship with Snyder have forever changed Scott’s storytelling ambitions. And, as Snyder relayed to new DC Eic Marie Javins and Tynion in the panel, it’s a way to put DC’s history back.
All of it.

Batman: Black and White is an almost 25-year-old anthology series that gave titans of the industry, brilliant artists and writers, a chance to go wild and show off what they could do with the Dark Knight and his world. While the series has been around since 1996, Batman: Black and White has been on hiatus since 2014, but that’s about to change in December.
The anthology returns with a new volume on Dec. 8, as announced by DC Comics. The oversized book will run for six issues and each 48-page issue will feature new short stories from an incredible collection of creators. The first issue features covers from long-time Batman artist and Dark Nights: Death Metalhead Greg Capullo; a Talia cover from Peach Momoko; and one from “The Black Glove”‘s Jh Williams.

The big takeways from the first trailer for “The Batman” were pretty obvious — the newest version of the Caped Crusader and the brand new Zodiac Killer-inspired reimagining of The Riddler. But as some very eagle-eyed fans pointed out in the days since the trailer launched, an innocuous detail might be hinting at the movie debut of another major Bat-antagonist: The Court of Owls.
The moment comes 41 seconds in, when Commissioner Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) hands Batman (Robert Pattison) a riddle left by the Riddler (Paul Dano) at a crime scene — written inside a Halloween greeting card. Addressed directly to Batman, the card is adorned with a very prominent cartoon Owl and a comic strip-style “Whoo?” along with the words “from your secret friend” across the front.
Of course that isn’t necessarily a reference to villainous owls. In fact one of our initial thoughts seeing the card was that it was...

WB Games Montreal has finally confirmed that it’s next game is Gotham Knights, which will see Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood face off with the Court of Owls and other baddies for the fate of Gotham City after Batman’s death. The studio made the announcement during the WB Games portion of the DC FanDome digital event.
Check out the first trailer below:
The Court of Owls, a shadowy owl-themed crime syndicate that controls Gotham from deep within the city’s underworld, was first introduced in 2011 during Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s run on Batman during DC Comics’ New 52 era. Using undead assassins as their enforcers to commit crimes and assassinate their enemies, the Court of Owls, which is made up of some of Gotham’s wealthiest citizens, operated in such secrecy that they were even a mystery to the World’s Greatest Detective for years before they finally moved against him.

Veteran DC Comics and Batman scribe Scott Snyder is teaming up with superstar artist Tony Daniel for a new monthly series called Nocternal. The book, which will be the first published under Snyder’s new creator-owned imprint at Image Comics, Best Jackett Press, also includes colorist Tomeu Morey, letterer Deron Bennett, and editor Will Dennis.
“Nocternal takes place 10 years after the world is plunged into an everlasting night that turns all living creatures into monstrous ‘shades.’ Enter Valentina ‘Val’ Riggs, a skilled ‘ferryman’ who transports people and goods along deadly unlit roads with her heavily illuminated eighteen-wheeler,” reads the book’s description in a press release. “When an old man promising sanctuary offers Val a job to drive him and his granddaughter up through the Rocky Mountains, she takes it, hoping there might be some truth to his claim. Up and coming screenwriter Bek Smith is set to write the screenplay adaptation for Mark Millar’s “Reborn” comic book set up at Netflix, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Chris McKay is attached to direct the project.
Netflix acquired Millar’s company, Millarworld in 2017 and since then has been developing projects with Mark Millar and Lucy Millar. Holy blue cowl, Batman! Fans of the Caped Crusader’s classic blue-and-gray suit have something to look forward to in October. A new Batsuit design has been revealed in the solicitation for Batman #100. Drawn by series artist Jorge Jimenez, a full model study of the suit will first appear on a variant cover for the issue, and it’s a drastic departure from the black-and-gray Jim Lee design that’s been the standard Batsuit for years at DC.
Take a look for yourself:
Newsarama first posted the variant cover ahead of the October DC solicitations that will be published today at 12 pm Et. It’s important to note that DC hasn’t confirmed that Batman will get a suit change in Batman #100, and it’s very possible this suit may just be an extra bit of flair for a variant that will likely become a hot commodity for collectors trying...

So, a little later than planned, due to a certain super-villain called Covid-19, but the sequel of sorts to the Dark Nights:Metal event of a couple of years ago is here. That event, also overseen by Snyder and Capullo, introduced a dark multiverse that exists alongside the regular DC multiverse, the two connected by various metals. That first event focused mostly on Batman, that being Snyder’s main book at the time, and we got to see several nasty variations of Batman. Which was fun. It was very popular, with all the various tie-ins, so a sequel was inevitable. Just because you can make a sequel, though, should you? Let’s take a look.

We knew Dark Nights: Death Metal, the big DC megaevent from Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion and Fco Plascencia, was reworked when it got delayed. DC just announced how much it was reworked.
The main series has been expanded from six to seven issues, with a skip month planned for September. However, to help fill us up for that break, we get two supplemental comics: Dark Nights: Death Metal Guidebook #1 on August 11th, and Dark Nights: Death Metal Legends of the Dark Knights #1 on August 25th.
Death Metal is the follow up to Dark Nights: Metal, the series that introduced the Dark Multiverse and its evil coterie of Batmen (including the Batman Who Laughs) to the Dcu; to Snyder’s Justice League, which brought dark goddess Perpetua in from her prison in the Source Wall, to tear down the existing multiverse and replace it with something more pliable; and to Hell Arisen,...

In the Before Time, a pandemic and a global shutdown ago, the Batman comics were hurtling towards a huge anniversary issue with a new creative team and a hot new character sending back issue prices through the roof. Punchline was introduced in a cameo in James Tynion IV and Jorge Jimenez’s Batman #89, and the issue immediately flew off the shelves. Then she showed up in Hell Arisen #3 from Tynion and Steve Epting, and that issue also sold like hotcakes. So without knowing much about the character besides a terrific design from Jimenez, Joker’s new second in command is already moving books. But when you learn more about who she is, you start to get an idea of just how important she may be to the comics and to the world.

Delayed by the comic shop and shipping shutdowns from Covid-19, DC announced that on June 16, we’ll finally get to see the first issue of Dark Nights: Death Metal, the massive event comic tying together 10 years of Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glaipion, Fco Plascencia, and others’ mega-dc story. “The motto of the whole event is it all matters,” Snyder tells us in an interview about the new book. “It’s built on years and years of DC history in a way that we wanted to honor and touch upon so many classic stories that we love that we felt deserve to be celebrated at this moment. And ones from the present as well that we thought could use more impact on the main line, from Crisis on Infinite Earths all the way to Doomsday Clock.

With an enormous swath of the world involved in varying degrees of social distancing, many of us suddenly find ourselves with a lot of time on our hands. Never fear! But the variety of options to read can be daunting. That’s why we’ve put together a recommendation list of some of our favorite comics binge reads to help you through quarantine.

When writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo were tapped to create a new volume of Batman comics for DC’s New 52 reboot in 2011, they didn’t set out to create a saga that would span almost a decade. With early story arcs like “The Court of Owls” and “Death of the Family,” Snyder and Capullo were just trying to tell the biggest Batman stories they could, the ones they’d always wanted to tell.
Their run, which is regarded today as one of the best in the history of the character, reimagined Batman’s origin story in “Zero Year,” killed the Caped Crusader off in “Endgame,” and brought him back to life in “Superheavy.” Then they sent the Dark Knight to space to fight a cosmic threat from a nightmare multiverse in the 2017 Dark Nights: Metal event, which is getting a Wonder Woman-centric sequel later this year.

The world of comics has long been filled with different versions of Batman. As Coronavirus continues to spread, and the world continues to panic, one Hollywood production after another has been shut down. In fact, at this point, there aren’t very many left still shooting. One of the last ones left up and running though was The Batman, with Warner Bros. stating that things would continue to chug along.
