Oscar Schmidt is a Brazilian basketball player, played as an attacking defender and small forward, participant in five consecutive Olympic Games (1980-1996), in three of which he became the best sniper.
Oscar Schmidt is considered the all-time leading scorer in basketball history with 49,737 career points (pro club league play plus senior Brazil men's national team combined). He holds the record for the longest career as a professional basketball player - 29 years. He is also the top scorer in the history of the Summer Olympics and the top scorer in the history of the FIBA Basketball World Cup. In total, Schmidt played 38 matches at the Olympic Games and never scored less than 14 points. His best result was 55 points scored in the group stage game in Seoul 1988: Games of the XXIV Olympiad (1988) against Spain.
He completed his sports career in May 2003 at the age of 45.
