Bae Doo-na first started out as a model, and then worked her way up as an actress. At first, her talent was overlooked until she landed roles in critically acclaimed films.
She starred in Park Chan-wook’s Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) and Bong Joon-ho’s The Host (2006)–two of the most popular Korean crossover hits of the last decade.
“People might say that since my mother is a theater actor, I became an actress. But to me, those experiences probably had the opposite effect. On the contrary, because I saw many great actors working with my mother, I thought this was a job only people with extraordinary talent could do.”
Bae Doo-na began her international career by way of her much discussed performance in the Japanese film, Air Doll (2009). She won acting awards from three film festivals in Japan for her performance.

“Miss Conspirator” is a Korean comedy action romance directed by Park Chul Kwan, known for his popular 2001 gangster spoof “Hi Dharma!”. The film is headlined by top actress Ko Hyun Jung, star of hit television series like “Queen Seon Duk” and “What’s Up, Fox?”, here taking on a somewhat different role as a nervous, socially awkward woman who accidentally gets mixed up with gangsters and drug deals. The film also features a fine supporting cast of character actors, including Yu Hae Jin (“The Unjust”), Park Shin Yang (“The Big Swindle”), Sung Dong Il (“The Client”), Lee Moon Sik (“Battlefield Heroes”) and Ko Chang Seok (“Over my Dead Body”) as the various thugs, cops and drug smugglers making her life interesting. The film follows Ko Hyun Jung as Soo Ro, an unfortunate woman in Busan who suffers from extreme anxiety attacks as a result of a near-drowning accident earlier in her life.

“As One” is a Korean drama mixing two of the country’s most popular cinematic themes, North-South reunification and sports. The true life story is based upon the fascinating events surrounding the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships, when for the first time ever North Korea and South Korea competed as one joint team. Directed by first time helmer Moon Hyun Sung (previously an assistant director on the daft horror “Yoga”), the film boasts two of Korea’s finest and most popular actresses in the lead roles, namely Ha Ji Won (known for television series such as “Secret Garden” and recently in “Sector 7”) and Bae Du Na (who also cut her teeth on early hit TV roles, and who has progressed to blockbusters like “The Host” and Hollywood with “Cloud Atlas”). More importantly, the film also had the involvement of South Korean table tennis legend Hyun Jung Hwa, a Gold Medal winner...

I love movies about ping pong. Doesn’t matter what genre or who’s in it — I’ll watch all of them without hesitation. I can’t immediately explain my weird attraction to this sort of motion picture. I’m not particularly good at the sport; in fact, I haven’t played ping pong since middle school, which was a very long time ago. But enough about that. Director Moon Hyun-Sung’s upcoming drama “As One” looks entertaining, and I’m not just saying that because the film features a sweaty Ha Ji-Won (“Sector 7″) passionately playing ping pong. Okay, well, maybe a little. Here’s a more in-depth look at the film’s plot: South Korean ping-pong star Hyun Jung-hwa and North Korea’s Li Bun-hui have each been defeated by Chinese player Deng Yaping–a.k.a. “The Ping-Pong Witch” –every time they reach a tournament’s finals.
