Writer/director Wych Kaosayananda has been somewhat of a busy bee recently with not one but Three films released in the span of six months. First up was The Driver, swiftly followed by One Night in Bangkok. However unlike those 2 features, which had the star-power name of Mark Dacascos to hang their marketing, Paradise Z – also known as Dead Earth and Two of Us – has crept out into the market with very little fanfare. Probably because it hasn’t kept the same moniker across the countries it has been released in so far. It also doesn’t help that the marketing – that I’ve seen – seemingly doesn’t connect this to The Driver. But it should, Kaosayananda has actually stated this film is set in the...

The story of a hitman who spends 12 hours touring the city with a long list of targets is a deathly plod
Lacking much else, this VOD-bound actioner offers two unexpected comebacks for the price of one. The star is Mark Dacascos, erstwhile straight-to-video stalwart aiming to convert his nifty John Wick 3 cameo into a second leading-man career. Behind the camera is Wych Kaosayananda, formerly just Kaos, the wildly overhyped Thai tyro exported at the height of Hollywood’s millennial Asian-cinema fetish to oversee megaflop Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever in 2002.
His latest is a baby step up from that – cheap, self-produced tat being preferable to aggressively expensive corporate tat – but still feels underpowered. Ironically, it’s the kind of B pic a studio would have bulked up, cut tighter and transformed into a halfway worthy rental prospect.

"Its been a long time since I killed anyone." Lionsgate has released an official trailer for One Night in Bangkok, a hit man action thriller set in the iconic Thai city. It's the latest film from Thai action director Wych Kaosayananda (aka Wych Kaos) and is getting a direct-to-dvd release at the end of the summer. It's described as "a homage to Collateral, with a shocking twist," and the story follows an assassin who hires a cab driver in Bangkok to unknowingly escort him to each of his targets - five hits in six hours. Will they pull it off? Mark Dacascos stars as the hit man, joined by Kane Kosugi, Vanida Golten, Prinya Intachai, Sahajak Boonthanakit, and Julie Condra. This looks pretty damn cool, not only as a Collateral homage but as a hit man getting revenge the only way he knows how - taking out the bad guys.

An intense, action-packed hit man thriller about an assassin who hires a cab driver to unknowingly escort him to each of his targets, the One Night in Bangkok DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $19.98.

“Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever” director Wych Kaosayananda’s latest, “Tekken 2: Kazuya’s Revenge” (formerly “Tekken 2: A Man Called X”) has sneaked its way onto DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD this week. You can grab a copy of the movie from Amazon and other places if you’re so inclined, but frankly, after seeing this trailer for it I’m not sure if you’ll want to. And I actually liked the first “Tekken,” which starred Jon Foo, so I’m a bit disappointed the sequel is not only obviously working on a shoestring budget, but I’m not sure it even makes sense in the context of the last movie. Kane Kosugi, son of the legendary Sho Kosugi, stars in this one. If nothing else, the martial arts should look pretty convincing. But hey, maybe it’s just me. You can judge for yourself. Fans of Dustin Nguyen are certainly basking in one hell of a resurgence for the man. Ever since 2007′s “The Rebel”, the first film of his I saw in a long, long time, he’s been a pretty busy guy, and one of his films that is getting some love in Vietnam is the Thai-set “Angels” from director Wych Kaosayananda (“Ecks vs. Sever”). The film is something of an oddity — a Thai-set, Thai-produced movie shot almost exclusively in English (though I detect Thai dialogue tossed in here and there). Yes, no subtitles to read (for the most part) for all you lazy subtitle readers out there. Check out a trailer and a handful of images (including some posters) for the film below. It’s kinda like “Taken” crossed with “Man on Fire”. Bangkok, Thailand. The body of a naked and bound young woman (Angel) is discovered on the Chao Praya river.

Veteran character actor Dustin Nguyen is not a happy man, and he's leaving a trail of bodies behind himself to prove it in upcoming action flick Angels.Slickly directed by Wych Kaosayananda (Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever) in Bangkok, Angels stars Nguyen as a former special forces officer turned mercenary on a mission for revenge after his daughter turns up floating dead in a Bangkok canal. Don't ask yourself why almost everyone in this particular version of Bangkok appears to speak perfect English - there is no obvious answer - but a capable cast of action vets - Gary Daniels co-stars - and no shortage of blood means things roll along nicely whatever language they're speaking.Check the trailer below....

Photo: Warner Bros. I was completely out of the loop when it came to Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, a film predominantly known at this point as the worst reviewed movie of the last decade by RottenTomatoes standards. So, when I decided I would follow in the footsteps of my previous look at Skyline and regularly take a look back at movies considered to be among the worst ever that I had not yet seen, there was no better place to start.
In short, yes, this is a bad film. Terrible in fact. Is it the worst? That's all relative to the discussion. Worst in what way? Plot? Characters? Execution? Entertainment? In all honesty, this is a film I would consider a perfect entry in a new age of grindhouse. All I could think of while watching the inexplicable amount of explosions, lack of story and silly predicaments was of Robert Rodriguez...

Reed’s Bargain Bin [1] is a recurring column where Reed Farrington tells us about a movie he bought for under $5, and whether or not he regrets the purchase. “Blowed ‘em up good, blowed ‘em up real good!” If Big Jim McBob and Billy Sol Hurok from Sctv’s Farm Film Report had been on Rotten Tomatoes’ (Rt) staff, then there’s no way that Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever (Bevs) would ever be in the list of Rt’s worst movies of the past decade [2]. So, in the opinion of Reed Farrington, does this movie deserve to be at the top of that list? Well, that “worst of” list was the impetus I needed to finish watching this film that had been sitting in my stockpile for the past three years. I hadn’t realized that I had watched all of it up to the last ten minutes. Perhaps this is...

With the titles of the Ghosthouse Underground label filling up the majority of their October horror DVD slate, November brings us Lionsgate's sloppy seconds. I mean, a horror movie getting dumped onto DVD a week or two after Halloween strikes me as an afterthought on the distributor's part. Lionsgate has three such chillers getting the post-Halloween DVD mistreatment.
First up, on November 3rd, is The Beast Within - no relation to the notorious 1982 creature feature about a woman raped by a monster who gives birth to a son that as a teenager transforms into a giant cicada creature. This Beast Within is actually a retitling of a German film originally called Virus Undead from director Wolf Wolff (haven't heard a name like that since Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever director Kaos) about a strain of avian flu that turns victims into zombies.
