Director and writer Jason Horton completed his film studies at the University of New Orleans, while creating his own production company Zapruter Productions. His first feature was entitled Rise of the Undead released in 2005 and he followed up with the apocalyptic feature Edges of Darkness. Both of these films were in the horror genre, but Horton branched out this year to release the dramatic thriller Trap. Now, this director, producer, writer, promoter and most recently distributor takes some time off from this latest production Monsters in the Woods to talk about independent filmmaking and the hurdles of low budget film distribution. Have a listen as Horton talks candidly about being pressured to add creature effects into his latest reality based feature, Trap.

Director/writer: Jason Horton.
Trap is the latest film from both director Jason Horton (Edges of Darkness) and Zapruter Productions. Currently the film is looking for distribution and in the film Horton shows that he can change tones from action-oriented to drama. Trap is not horror like his previous production, Edges of Darkness, but more dramatic thriller. Also, Horton adds in an interesting, diverse soundtrack that might even involve the director singing!
The film was recently finished and the press release calls Trap "the newest thriller from director Jason Horton" (Trap). Yet, the film is mostly a dramatic feature with thriller elements. The story succintly involves a kidnapping of young vixen, Tennessee (Ashton Blanchard) who has developed a devilish charm at a very early age. One of the kidnappers falls for the captive and here things twist and turn, as characters Franklin (Alonzo F. Jones) and Walt (Allen Perada) have a falling out.

The first featurette from Trap, writer/director Jason Horton's follow-up to Edges of Darkness, just showed up online; and it offers an at times funny behind-the-scenes look at low budget movie-making for your pre-Thanksgiving cravings.
The film stars Alonzo F. Jones along with Alan Perada and Ashton Blanchard. Trap is a thriller that follows a brutal abduction that goes awry when a middle-aged kidnapper falls in love with his 15-year-old victim. Funny stuff, right? In addition, it promises a killer, kickin' soundtrack with songs from Chubby Checker, Cudacade, Peachey Keane, and many more.

Filmmaker Jason Horton dropped us a line with some news on his latest project, Trap, about a brutal kidnapping that goes from bad to worse when a middle-aged kidnapper falls in love with his 15-year-old victim.
Horton is in final negotiations on a foreign distribution deal for the film and said he's closing in on the domestic side as well. He relayed, "Our financier is actually interested in making Trap the middle section of a trilogy. Although the other movies won't exactly be traditional sequels or prequels, but will be new stories featuring minor characters from Trap."
The film stars Alonzo F. Jones along with Alan Perada and Ashton Blanchard. Below is a new still, and if you click the pic below that, you'll be able to see a teaser scene Horton has uploaded to IMDb.

Indie anthology Edges of Darkness, which tells three tales set against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse, is edging closer to a Us release with Anchor Bay, according to co-director and co-writer Jason Horton. And it could come as early as September 22nd.
Here are a synopsis of the three stories and a trailer from Shoreline Entertainment:
A vampire couple, Stan and Stellie, struggle to find food. Stan kidnaps a young girl, Natalie, in the hopes of feeding off her a little at a time in order to survive. Natalie turns out to be not what she seems and soon turns the tables on her vampire captors.
Dean is so obsessed with his writing that he ignores everything around him, from the zombies to his lonely wife. He installs a mysterious new processor into his computer that allows it to run without electricity. Instead, it now runs off the life force of others.

"Edges of Darkness" is a horror genre film, from director Jason Horton (Trap), that involves three separate character driven stories that center around an undead apocalypse with scripture from the book of revelations acting as a backdrop. Set in an overrun apartment complex the three stories are connected not only through location, but through a climactic ending. Unconventionally, a new group of actors are entered into the fray, at the films midpoint, as the unfocused premise attempts to tie up far too many plot devices late in the story.
The films central plot revolves around a religious end of the world involving several blood thirsty priests (Lee Perkins, Robert Kitchen) while several smaller plots look for attention in a quickly paced script. Fighting for survival in this murderous atmosphere are a small coven of vampires (Alonzo F. Jones) , a writer (Jay Costelo) in the midst of an alien invasion,...
