- Won the very first Ultimate Fighting Championship by defeating boxer Art Jimmerson, fellow ultimate fighter Ken Shamrock, and Dutch kick-boxer Gerard Gordeau, all in one night.

- In 1993, the brainchild of Royce's older brother, Rorion Gracie and fight promoter Art Davie, the UFC was born.
It was an eight-man single-elimination tournament with very few rules that would award $50,000 to the winner. The basic premise was to find out how different styles of martial arts would fare against each other. Art Davie placed ads in martial arts magazines and sent letters to anyone in any martial arts directory he could find to recruit competitors for the event.
It was understood that Rickson Gracie, the larger, stronger brother and family champion, would be the one to fight as the Jiu-Jitsu representative; however, it was Rorion who chose Royce, the smaller and less assuming of the Gracies, to represent the family style. - 2003, First-ever inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame.
- Is the only fighter in the history of no-holds-barred matches to successfully defeat four opponents in one night.
- After leaving the UFC, Royce competed in the PRIDE Fighting Championships in Japan. He holds the record for the longest MMA match in history: 90 minutes against Japanese superstar Kazushi Sakuraba.
Royce's largest opponent was Sumo Grand Champion Akebono (6' 8" 486 lbs). He defeated the giant in just 2min and 13sec with a shoulder lock. - Is a seventh degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

- At UFC 3, Gracie's corner threw in the towel after the introductions of both Gracie and his opponent Harold Howard. The original result was a victory for Howard, who then proceeded to the finals of the tournament. For some unexplained reason, this loss has disappeared from Gracie's fight record, despite the fact he entered the octagon, was introduced and then quit.
