Luke Combs is the man of the hour. The 59th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday morning, April 9, and Combs came out on top with eight bids, including Entertainer of the Year. Check out the complete list of nominations here.
This is Combs’s fifth nomination in a row for Entertainer of the Year, an award he has yet to win. This year he’s up against Kane Brown, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and lone female nominee Lainey Wilson. Women are consistently underrepresented in Entertainer of the Year, though Carrie Underwood won in 2020 (in a tie with Thomas Rhett) and Miranda Lambert finally prevailed in 2022. But we mustn’t underestimate Wilson here. She pulled off a huge upset at the CMA Awards last fall, claiming Entertainer of the Year despite being relatively new on the scene.

“Fast Car” continues to drive Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman to the top — this time, at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Combs is the top contender this year with eight nominations, competing for entertainer of the year as well as single and song of the year with “Fast Car.” He shares the latter nomination with Chapman, who wrote the song alone and had major success with it in 1988, 35 years before Combs brought new life to the track and made it a country hit.
Chapman won in the same category at last year’s Country Music Association Awards, becoming the first Black person to do so. She and Combs earned praise for teaming up for a live performance of the song at February’s Grammy Awards, where Combs was nominated for his version of the song; Chapman won two Grammys for her original version.

With iconic roles in “Twin Peaks,” “Sex and the City” and the original “Dune,” over a 40-year career Kyle MacLachlan has established himself as both a chameleon and an on-screen legend.

Carrie Underwood is a household name in country music, and is one of the biggest-selling artists to ever make waves in the genre. She is more than qualified to speak on country music, and recently, she gave her honest, raw take on the current state of the genre. So, what did she have to say?
Carrie Underwood Has Come A Long Way Since Her American Idol Start
Carrie Underwood was first introduced to a national audience when she competed on American Idol. She was the winner of Season 4 all the way back in 2005. Even back then, audiences recognized her star power. She may have not fully realized all of that potential until after winning her season, along with everything that came after, but the seeds for what she would become were already planted.

The season of the very first sign of the zodiac is here, and that’s exactly why being a leader comes so easy for Aries folks.
And that’s no joke, Aries really don’t know what else to be but a boss, CEO or innovator, because they’d rather play by their own rules. They march to the beat of their own drum and rarely ever need anyone to play backup instrumentals. Their charm, playful personality and great sense of humor make up for their impulsiveness and sometimes hot-temper, and there’s absolutely no other sign who will keep it all the way real with you like an Aries does, even if it’s something you don’t want to hear. They tell it like it is, as dishonesty goes against their entire m.o.

Go ahead and add another record to Beyoncé’s laundry list of accolades, as “Texas Hold ‘Em” has debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, making her the first Black woman to do so.
The song dethroned Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves’ “I Remember Everything,” which had towered over the chart for 20 weeks. As confirmed by Billboard, the artist’s other new country-tinged single, “16 Carriages,” wasn’t far behind at No. 9.
Both tracks boasted impressive streaming and sales numbers in the week following their surprise release midway through the Super Bowl. Billboard reports that “Texas Hold ‘Em” nabbed a cool 19.2 million streams and 39,000 traditional sales, while “16 Carriages” commanded 10.3 million streams and 14,000 sales. Beyoncé’s previous dip into country stylings, “Daddy Lessons,” also saw a spike in attention, with that tune’s streaming numbers increasing by a factor of 370%.

Tracy Chapman may keep a remarkably low profile, but she doesn’t live in a vacuum. The singer-songwriter was well aware of the success that Luke Combs’ cover of her song “Fast Car” was having last year. After it won two big awards at the Country Music Association Awards in November, she decided to call him.
It was a private conversation, just Chapman and Combs on the line for about 30 minutes, but it helped plant the seeds for one of the all-time best collaborative performances in Grammy history. On Feb.

Tracy Chapman has seen a meteoric rise in streams of her song “Fast Car” in the days following her appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
According to Billboard, “Fast Car” has experienced a 241% increase in streams from and a 38,000% (!) increase in sales.
“Fast Car” initially experienced renewed interest last year when Luke Combs covered the song. The cover peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing the original song’s peak position at No. 6 in 1988. The cover’s success on the country music charts made Tracy Chapman the first Black woman to have the sole songwriting credit on a No.1 country hit.
At last weekend’s Grammys, Chapman made a rare public appearance to perform “Fast Car” with Combs. The performance went quickly viral, fueling even more interest in both Combs’ cover as well as Chapman’s original.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Grammys producer Ben Winston said Chapman’s performance was months in making.

As Killer Mike was taken away in handcuffs after an alleged run-in with a security guard just before the start of the 2024 Grammys ceremony, executive producer Ben Winston was locked away in his production truck, dealing with his own pressing emergencies, thanks to stormy Los Angeles weather. “It was about 4:45, we’re going live in 15 minutes,” Winston tells Rolling Stone Music Now, “and Patrick Menton, the co-ep who oversees talent, says, ‘We’re not sure Sza is going to make it back in time for her performance — she went...

2023 was all about the joy of girlhood, so it's no surprise the biggest musical hits of the year were also for women and by women. Ahead of the 2024 Grammy Awards, women dominated nominations across categories. But the Feb. 4 ceremony celebrated not only women nominees, but also winners, performers, and presenters - at every age. From longtime legends to rising artists, women celebrated each other unabashedly in an industry that tends to emphasize youth and often pits women against each other. For the first time in years, an award show seemed to hit the mark on entertaining audiences across generations, striking the perfect chord between embracing nostalgia and highlighting newer talent.
Women nominees were up for every major category, and ultimately snagged the big wins, too. Phoebe Bridgers took home the most trophies with four wins, making her a first-time Grammy winner alongside Victoria Monét, Miley Cyrus, Karol G, and Lainey Wilson.

The Grammy Awards made history on Sunday night as women dominated the big categories in a clean sweep, with Taylor Swift winning album of the year, Billie Eilish for song of the year, Miley Cyrus for record of the year and Victoria Monét for best new artist. By now, you may have read all those headlines, but there was a lot more action that went down inside Crypto.com Arena. The Hollywood Reporter was on the scene at the awards ceremony to catch the memorable moments that didn’t make the CBS telecast, including the arrest of a Grammy Award-winning rapper, a sweet moment between Swift and her “Karma” collaborator Ice Spice, and Celine Dion’s quiet entrance before her surprise showing onstage.

The 66th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday turned out to be a very good night to be Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Joni Mitchell and Tracy Chapman. As well as delivering for music fans, and allowing Jay-Z to get a few things off his chest, the Grammys turned out to be great for CBS and the Recording Academy.
The live ceremony from Dtla hit a years-long high note with 16.9 million viewers on average tuning in across CBS, Paramount+ and other digital platforms, according to early data from Nielsen. Last night’s Grammy broadcast has generally received terrific reviews, but the Recording Academy wasn’t quite so lucky, with two high-profile performers making off-camera slams against the awards organization.
Both Drake and Phoebe Bridgers took some well-aimed shots at the Academy, with Drake’s broadside coming before the ceremony and Bridgers’ swipe during.
Prior to the telecast, Drake posted a clip on his Instagram Story of his 2019 Grammy acceptance speech (for “God’s Plan”) — a speech that was cut short during the show five years ago — in which he had harsh words for the Grammys. He accompanied his Story video post with a caption reiterating his 2019 speech:

Tracy Chapman’s triumphant return to the Grammy Awards stage at the 2024 ceremony marked her first live television performance in years, but it also coincided with another major milestone: the 35th anniversary of her Grammy Awards debut.

The 2024 Grammys will inspire a good deal of next-day debate among viewers. And that debate will be over: Which was the more moving comeback performance, Tracy Chapman’s or Joni Mitchell’s?
Life is good — and awards shows better than they have a right to be — when the hot post-telecast topic is which legend most tugged at our heartstrings with an unexpected return to the television spotlight. A huge reason why the 66th annual show will likely be considered the best Grammys in several years is the one-two punch of Mitchell and Chapman — the two artists the world was most eager to see come back from distressingly long sabbaticals. Exec producer Ben Winston’s success in landing both in one year provided a level of sentiment unlikely to be matched in any Grammys telecast soon, short of the producers convincing Bobbie Gentry she needs to un-retire and do the show,...

Remember when the Grammys used to suck every year? These days, nobody does. The Grammy ceremony has been on a historic roll ever since 2021, when they finally figured out how to stop doing a normal award show, and turn it into (as host Trevor Noah said) “a concert where we give out awards.” Grammy Night now has blown up into a ritual that really feels like a full-blast fan celebration. Last night’s excellent Grammy bash had no stupid comedy skits, no cringey presenter chit-chat — just memorable music moments, along with some dog-vomit ones.

For the biggest night in music, the Grammy Awards consistently struggle to overcome their ordinariness. In previous years, the show seemed to be on a confused search for meaning. An identity crisis instigated by years of snubs and accelerated by the pandemic led comedian Trevor Noah to admit in 2022 that the event was “a concert where we give out awards.”
That sentiment still rings true two years later. With most of the categories abandoned to an energetic but sparsely attended preshow ceremony, the main telecast feels like a trying exhibition and a hotbed of contradictions. To watch the Grammys in 2024 is to witness an insistence on fun without much actual evidence of it.
Some of that has to do with the forces that have changed how people consume awards shows. Is it worth another subscription to tune in to a more-than-three-hour showcase, especially if you can catch the snipped and...

Los Angeles, Feb 5 (Ians) Veteran Hollywood singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman performed her 1988 iconic track “Fast Car” alongside country artist Luke Combs at the 66th Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah.
The two singers, though hailing from different generations and musical genres, took the stage together on February 4 for a duet rendition of the song that has generated massive success for both of them.
Decades after its initial release, “Fast Car” re-entered the charts when Combs’ cover of the track, infused with a country sensibility, became immensely popular in 2023.
Dressed all in black, Chapman kicked off the first performance at the Grammys to the sounds of voracious cheers from the star-studded audience which included Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson.
Chapman and Combs bounced back and forth sharing the spotlight and but sang together in beautiful harmony for the chorus. After they finished, the crowd leapt to their feet in a thunderous applause.

Combs, who changed nearly nothing about Chapman’s original composition, received a 2024 Grammy nomination for Best Solo Country Performance, and also won the Single of the Year award at the 2023 CMAs.
