Son of Robert H. Conrad and Florence Lawley Conrad of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He went to Alaska to work in construction after graduating high school.
He joined the United States Army in 1942 and was at the invasions of Guam and Okinawa in the South Pacific Ocean.
In 1946, he enrolled at the University of Iowa where he drew cartoons for the college newspaper. After graduation, he was hired by the Denver Post.
He is survived by his Barbara Kay King (married since 1953); children- David Conrad; James Conrad; Carol Conrad; and Elizabeth Conrad; and a grand-daughter.
