- A 1938 entertainment column recounted a story that Jack Arthur had insisted on being paid in American money for an engagement in Rio De Janeiro. When the engagement was completed, the manager took him to a bank "that looked more like a bar" and paid him in the only American money they had - one-dollar bills. With nowhere to stash the money until his ship arrived later that day, toured the city with 1400 one-dollar bills stuffed into the clothes he was wearing.
