In “Prom Dates,” two high school besties are sent reeling after their carefully orchestrated plans for the future take an abrupt turn, forcing them on a wild overnight adventure across town. If this set-up sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because director Kim O. Nguyen and screenwriter D.J. Mausner have combined a handful of ingredients from “Booksmart” and mixed them with some of the farcical odyssey of “After Hours.” However, unlike this teen raunch-com’s brilliantly conceived inspirations, its main friendship dynamic and ensuing shenanigans fail to resonate due to sloppy character construction and a cadre of cringe-worthy circumstances.
As innocent middle schoolers, Hannah (Millie Thorpe) and Jess (Hailey Philip) took a blood oath – one that went hilariously awry – to make their prom night the best night of their lives. But as seniors, the besties are finding that making good on their pact might prove difficult. Hannah (Julia Lester) is struggling with her sexuality,...

The new incarnation of Gossip Girl has been cancelled by HBO Max and will conclude this week. Series creator Josh Safran was saddened by the news, but not surprised. He suspected a cancellation was coming because of how expensive Gossip Girl is ("It takes a lot of money to look this good.") and because numerous HBO Max shows have been cancelled recently.
Starring Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, and Savannah Lee Smith, the sequel series follows a new group of private school teens living on the Upper East Side. The original version of Gossip Girl aired for six seasons on The CW before concluding in 2012.

The streaming service has canceled the reboot after two seasons.
The series finale, titled "I Am Gossip," will premiere on January 26 on HBO Max.
Showrunner Joshua Safran took to Twitter to reveal the sad news.
“So here’s the goss: it is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce Gossip Girl will not be continuing on HBO Max,” the social media statement reads.
Safran goes on to thank everyone associated with the show.
“The EPs and I will forever be grateful to the network and studio for their faith and support; the writers for their devious brains and dexterous talent; the superstar cast for being the greatest of collaborators and friends; and the crew for their hard work, dedication and love for the project."

NYC’s messiest Instagram account is typing its “XOXOs” for the last time. “Gossip Girl,” the HBO Max series and sequel to the CW hit of the same name, has been canceled, the streamer announced Thursday. The news comes in the middle of the show’s Season 2 run, which began on December 1 and will conclude January 26.
In a tweet Thursday, showrunner and executive producer Joshua Safran stated he intends to shop “Gossip Girl” to other outlets.
“We are currently looking for another home, but in this climate, that might prove an uphill battle, and so if this is the end, at least we went out on the highest of highs,” Safran wrote in his tweet.
The series, which premiered in July 2021 to considerable hype, is a continuation of the original 2007 series of the same name created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Based on the young adult series by Cecily von Ziegesar,...

Hey, Upper Eastsiders: HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” has been canceled, and its series finale will drop on the streamer Jan. 26.
Season 1 premiered in July of 2021, and though it received a critics’ score of 38 on Rotten Tomatoes, Variety‘s Caroline Framke praised it, writing the show “does immediately address one issue that plagued the previous ‘Gossip Girl’ by flipping it on its head in a way that energizes the new one. This time, there will be no guessing games as to who Gossip Girl might be — at least not for the audience.” Season 2 jumped higher on Rotten Tomatoes, but based on fewer reviews.
“We are very grateful to showrunner/executive producer Joshua Safran, and executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz for bringing us back to the Upper East Side and all the scandals at Constance Billard,” HBO Max said in a statement. “Although we are not moving forward with...

Outside of the delicious drama our favorite Upper East Siders deal with daily, what makes the "Gossip Girl" reboot great is the chemistry between the cast. It's easy to believe that Julien, Audrey, Monet, Luna, Max, Aki, and Obie are in fact longtime friends because their respective actors - Jordan Alexander, Emily Alyn Lind, Savannah Lee Smith, Zion Moreno, Thomas Doherty, Evan Mock, and Eli Brown - are also friends in real life. Even the addition of Whitney Peak's Zoya to the characters' group of friends feels genuine because of her magnetic connection with them.
Friendships and relationships (both old and new) are a big part of "Gossip Girl"'s dramatic second season, which kicked off on Dec. 1 - just take it from the cast. "Everything is a lot more intense this season, and we're kind of getting to see different sides and different stories from everybody," Peak tells Popsugar.

Haven't you heard? "Gossip Girl" is back for another chaotic season on HBO Max, and we've got all the deets.
The first season ends with a disastrous New Year's Eve celebration that leaves Julien (Jordan Alexander) cleaning up a major mess with her ex Obie (Eli Brown) and sister Zoya (Whitney Peak). Not to mention, the will-they-won't-they throuple with Aki (Evan Mock), Audrey (Emily Alyn Lind), and Max (Thomas Doherty) finally get the green light (though it surely won't be smooth sailing for them). The biggest surprise of them all, however - aside from Gossip Girl teaming up with Julien to expose everyone's dirty little secrets - is Monet (Savannah Lee Smith) gunning for the queen bee title now that Julien has turned over a new leaf, but there are plenty more shocking reveals ahead in season two, so buckle up for the ride.

You know you love Georgina Sparks.
Michelle Trachtenberg is back as iconic villain Georgina in Season 2 of HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” revival series. The new Gg, Kate (Tavi Gevinson), comes face to face with Og baddie Georgina after she sneaks into her apartment for a moment of reckoning. As Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” plays in the background, it’s clear Season 2 will be a battle to the social death.
The role marks Trachtenberg’s return to acting after four years, following her voice-acting turn in TV series “Human Kind Of.” Her last on-camera role was in 2016 TV movie “Sister Cities.” Trachtenberg formerly played Georgina a decade ago, with her final “Gossip Girl” appearance in 2012. The character’s son, Milo, played by Azhy Robertson, appeared in the first season of the new “Gossip Girl” as the hacker Zoya (Whitney Peak) hires to take down her...

Gossip Girl Season 2 looks like the show we were promised ahead of its debut last year.
HBO Max dropped the official trailer on Thursday, and it looks more scandalous than ever.
The original series was known for its Omg-worthy moments, and if the trailer is any indication, there'll be plenty to go around in the second season.
“It’s the second semester of junior year and Gossip Girl is leaving no stone unturned in her effort to control the scandalous lives or spin the scandalous lies of Manhattan’s elite,” the official logline reads.
“She’s learned a thing or two from her first go-around — namely what her audience wants, they shall get."
"It’s time for her to turn the heat up on what’s been simmering as well as look at her own impact and how she can make it more catastrophic than it was before. Even if...

HBO Max’s Gossip Girl season two is welcoming back original cast member Michelle Trachtenberg, reprising her role as Georgina Sparks. And the first three official photos from the upcoming second season even includes one showing Michelle as Georgina!
In an interview with Teen Vogue, showrunner Joshua Safran explained what Trachtenberg’s Georgina will add to the mix.
“What she brought to the original series was anarchy,” stated Safron. “She’s an anarchist. She’ll just do anything and just for any reason she decides. So we brought that energy to the first show, and then we brought that energy back to this one. She’s the same, and that’s what I think is so fun, that Michelle is older, we’re all older, Georgina is older yet has the exact same energy. She’s out of time.

Gossip Girl is back on HBO Max later this year.
Teen Vogue confirmed Thursday that the highly anticipated second reboot season will premiere on Thursday, December 1.
No word yet on whether we're getting all the episodes in one go, but we should get those details when the trailer drops.
Additionally, one of the original Gossip Girl's most chaotic characters is along for the ride.
Showrunner Joshua Safran revealed to Teen Vogue that Michelle Trachtenberg is joining the cast as the villainous Georgina Sparks.
And, thankfully, she'll be up to her same old schemes.

The second season of HBO Max's reboot of Gossip Girl has been in production for a while now, and the latest tease hints at a big comeback.
The social media accounts for the series shared a video of a brunette woman sitting in an empty theater, clearly enjoying what is happening on stage.
“It only takes one spark to start a fire,” the video teases.
In the caption, the message continues: “And I have a feeling that this city is about to burn.”
The video quality is not great, which is probably intentional to keep fans guessing the mystery person's identity.

Given the "spark" and the fact that this person is going to upend the lives of the Upper East Siders, it certainly sounds like Georgina Sparks is coming back into the fold.

Who’s down for another round of sex, lies and Instagram stories? HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot will resume its first season on Thursday, Nov. 25 (aka Turkey Day!), TVLine has learned.
And considering how the show left things in August, this new batch of Upper East Siders has plenty of drama to sort out. As you may recall, the midseason finale ended with Julien and Obie kissing at a protest; Rafa intercepting a jaw-dropping sex tape that Max sent to Gossip Girl; Aki accidentally coming out to his parents, whose support proved curiously opportunistic; and Audrey, Aki and Max...

Gossip Girl had its midseason finale on Aug. 12, and rather than tying everything up in a nice bow until the show returns in November, it left us with one major question: what the hell does Roger's (Malcolm McDowell) voicemail to Aki (Evan Mock) mean?
In the final scene of episode six, Roger is shown leaving a message for his son telling him to steer clear from Julien (Jordan Alexander). "There's one thing I forgot to mention: just for a little while at least, stay away from Julien," Roger says in the cryptic voicemail. "If you call me back, I'll talk you through it." But how are Roger and Julien connected in the first place? Frankly, we had no idea that Roger even knew who Julien was. Could she maybe have something to do with the lawsuit his company is currently facing? Or, perhaps somehow Roger is tied to the protest...

While Gossip Girl is notorious for saying "you know you love me," we know someone who definitely doesn't: Suki Waterhouse. The Assassination Nation star was not a fan of the HBO Max reboot's reference toward her relationship with Robert Pattinson, which insinuated that Suki is a "nobody" through dialogue in the season's third episode written by Lila Feinberg. The line happens when Luna (Zión Moreno) tries to convince new-girl Zoya (Whitney Peak) to use her public relations skills to bolster her as a viable romantic partner for Obie (Eli Brown). The Gossip Girl reboot is already the talk of the town, but did you really expect anything less? Following its premiere on HBO Max on July 8, fans have gone wild as they dissect all the little references to the original series, get to know more about the up-and-coming cast, and become enthralled with the show's interesting new twists. With just one episode, people quickly began wondering if there would be more seasons. After all, the original series went on for six seasons.

This just in...there's a fabulous new Gossip Girl cast dominating television. On Thursday, July 8, the highly-anticipated reboot dropped on HBO Max, launching its stars—Emily Alyn Lind, Eli Brown, Whitney Peak, Thomas Doherty, Jordan Alexander, Evan Mock, Zión Moreno, Savannah Smith and Tavi Gevinson—into overnight sensations. Fourteen years after Serena van der Woodsen’s iconic walk through Grand Central, HBO Max is inviting viewers back into the world of Gossip Girl via another blonde on a train. Only things are quite different this time around.
For starters, this ain’t Metro North. It’s the New York City subway system. And the woman in question isn’t a glamorous young socialite, but rather a teacher (played by Tavi Gevinson) at her wit’s end. As an educator at the now-coed Constance Billard school, Kate Keller longs for the simpler days when students respected authority and adhered to boundaries.

By the time Joshua Safran was pitching the “Gossip Girl” revival to HBO Max in May 2019, he knew exactly what he wanted the new incarnation to be. Based on Cecily von Ziegesar’s young adult books, and created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the original show ran on The CW from 2007 to 2012 and was a zeitgeist success, creating stars of Blake Lively and Penn Badgley, and cementing “xoxo” as a shady signoff forevermore. Safran had risen in the writers’ room to become one of its executive producers, and Schwartz and Savage approached him about imagining a hook for a revival.
The new “Gossip Girl” would be different from the first show in both small and profound ways, adapting to reflect, as Safran puts it, “a more diverse universe,” and “to tell more queer stories.” But what would cause the biggest shift in the show’s worldview, he says, was...

Gossip Girl may have gone dark in 2012, but the site will have a whole new look when the series is rebooted later this year.
HBO Max on Friday dropped the first teaser for the highly-anticipated update of The CW drama, and they're a good lucking bunch.
But will they be a match for the likes of Serena, Blair, Nate, Chuck, and the others who dominated the original series?
We'll need to tune in to find out!
The teaser shows the cast at what looks to be a party, and the scene is perfectly narrated by original star Kristen Bell.
What we learn from the trailer is that Gossip Girl is, once again, watching every move of teenagers, reporting on what happens in their everyday lives.
Will this new iteration stir the pot?
