Warcraft wasn't the movie that fans of the most successful video game of all time had hoped for, and for now, it doesn't look like it will be getting a sequel anytime soon. But director Duncan Jones has given a lot of thought to what he would do next with the franchise. Last night Jones told a group of fans at a special Warcraft screening in London about his vision of what would happen in the next movie.
FlickeringMyth.com shared what Jones told the crowd:
“This first film is about establishing the world, and showing Durotan helping his son escape a dying planet. So to me the idea over the course of three films would be for Thrall to fulfill that vision of Durotan to create a new homeland for the Orcs. So in [the sequel] it would be the adolescent years of that baby, and anyone who does know their Warcraft stories would know it’s very much a Spartacus story that goes on with that character. I would basically follow that through. And with the human side of it, which is a little less clear of how that would follow, but basically there is an aftermath to this film which would need to be completed. And on the Orc side you’re very much following that baby, Go’el, known as Thrall in the universe, and how he eventually creates the Orc homeland."My fascination with trying to do Warcraft in three films and the idea of family is, I love the idea of Durotan has sacrificed himself so his son and the people he cares about can survive – I want to see that sacrifice pay off. That’s the trilogy. That’s the heart of the story. The rest of it is mumbo jumbo names and shit (laughs). Good shit, because Chris Metzen is a wonderful writer, but the heart of the story is someone’s sacrifice because they thought it was worth sacrificing for, and it was a good person who has a good kid and I want that good kid to pay off.”
Unfortunately, Warcraft under delivered at the box office and was a huge disappointment earning only $47 million, not even half of the film's entire budget of $160 million. But it did okay at the global box office pushing the film out of flop status, pulling in a total of $386 million. Despite the huge gains internationally, Jones still seems doubtful that a sequel will be green lit. He says “there’s no reason for me to believe there’s any likelihood of it happening.”
It would be a shame if the story ended the way it did. The Warcraft game is such a rich world to pull from, the cinematic possibilities are nearly unlimited. If no sequel ever comes about, I would like to see a studio take another stab at the property.
What do you guys think, would you like to see Jones' vision for a sequel become a reality?...

Warcraft may have completely bombed in the U.S. but it exploded in China, and that gives me hope that we will get to see a sequel one day. I am a big fan of the first movie, and director Duncan Jones started it with a potential full trilogy of films in mind. Not long ago it was hinted that a sequel would happen, but there's been no official announcement from the studio.
Jones recently did an interview with Thrillist, and during the interview, he was asked about the potential for returning for a sequel to the film. This was his reply:
“If there were an opportunity for us to make another film in the Warcraft universe, I really feel like we did the hard work in the first movie as far as setting the table. I would love to capitalize on three-and-a-half years of hard work and be able...

Thanks to China, Duncan Jones’ epic fantasy film Warcraft made over $422 million dollars worldwide. The movie bombed in the U.S., only making $46 million, which is ridiculous to me because I thought the movie was great, but I’m obviously in the minority.
Regardless of the film’s failure in the U.S., the movie has made enough money to warrant a sequel. According to the official Chinese social media account for the film, a sequel to Warcraft is being planned.
On the Chinese microblogging website Weibo, the official social media account of the movie said:
“Warcraft’s theatrical run is coming to an end. But the chapter of a new decade has just begun. It’s a starting point, not an end point. We don’t say goodbye now because we’ll meet you again!”

Duncan Jones’ Warcraft may not have been a hit in the U.S. as it only made $24.4 so far. American audiences don’t seem to be digging the fantasy adventure film, and reviews have not been kind. I personally enjoyed the hell out of it, and I loved what Jones did with the adaptation. Maybe American audiences just weren’t ready for this kind of heavy fantasy film. Maybe it was the way the film was marketed. I don’t really know, but China was sure ready for it!
Warcraft made $156 million in five days in China. That’s an insanely impressive number, and it’s awesome to see that there is an audience out there that does appreciate the work that Jones, his team, and Blizzard put into creating this feature film adaptation of WoW. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that a huge number of World of Warcraft’s active subscriber base is in China.
These numbers make Warcraft the largest foreign film debut in China’s history. That means it made more than films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Batman v Superman. This is cause for celebration for anyone would enjoyed the movie! The total box office number being reported worldwide currently stands at $304.6 million.
Jones and Blizzard had already planned out a trilogy, and the end of the first film certainly leaves it open for the story to continue. I was really hoping that we would get to see this vision fully realized, and now thanks to China, there’s a good chance that Jones will get to continue the story he started with the first film. When previously talking about where the trilogy was headed Jones said:
“You don’t make films this big and not hope that you’re going to get the chance to make maybe one or two more. I know Chris Metzen, who works at Blizzard and myself have talked about, if we have the chance to make a trilogy, what would story be? And what we set up in this film, I think, I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying… The Orcs had a home, they lost their home. Duratan, who’s chieftain of the Frost Worlds has tried to bring his people somewhere to give them a new home. At the end of this movie they don’t quite have that new home yet. I would hope by the end of the trilogy we know where the Orcs are going to live.”
As the box office numbers continue to grow over the coming months, a sequel seems like it’s inevitable, but we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m excited about the possibility of seeing how the full story plays out with these characters. Are you happy to hear that Warcraft is turning out to be a success?...

Duncan Jones' Warcraft finally hits theaters today, and it's a film you've gotta check out! I loved the movie and it's currently exploding in China. I really hope the movie does well at the box office here in the U.S.; I'm so confused by the negative reviews that the film is getting because it's such a solid movie with a great story, a great script, great acting, and stunning visual effects.
There's a prequel graphic novel that was created in conjunction with the film called Warcraft: Bonds of Brotherhood which takes place about 30 years before the events of the movie, it focuses on "an Azeroth-saving adventure undertaken by a young Llane, Lothar and Medivh."
We have a preview of the graphic novel to share with you today and here's the story description:

The story begins with a fearsome tribe of giant Orcs fleeing their former rundown land of Draenor and entering the peaceful realm of Azeroth — a land ruled by King Llane (Dominic Cooper) and Lady Taria (Ruth Negga). Today I turned 46 years old. I’m not sure if that’s too old for me to play video games. I certainly hope not, since I find them relaxing in a way that is valuable to me. Then again, I’m not sure who gets to decide if they are or aren’t appropriate, since I’m part of the first generation to be able to grow up playing games. I was there for Pong and Space Invaders and Asteroids and Pac-Man, and I was there for the first consoles at home. I’ve been a fan as long as there have been video games, and I remain a devoted fan of gaming in general even if I don’t always love the culture around it. What I find strange is how completely and utterly I have somehow avoided World Of Warcraft. Unlike films, where I find that I’m open to pretty much anything,...

When Blizzard senior vice president Chris Metzen took the stage for the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2014, he showcased a flurry of emotions. He seemed alternately terrified and elated, and his relief after playing the first trailer for Overwatch was palpable. At the time, the cynic in me wondered if his display was genuine or if he was just hamming it up for the crowd. Now that I’ve played the game for myself, the truth is clear: he must have known he was unveiling something truly special to the world.
Overwatch is Blizzard’s first attempt at the shooter genre, and their first new property in nearly two decades. Taking objective elements from games like Team Fortress 2 and the idea of heroes and abilities from MOBAs, the game attempts a new fusion that the creators are calling a “hero shooter.” At its core, the game gives you 21 characters in...

Warcraft is going to easily be one of the most visually stunning films of the year. I also think it will end up being one of the best video game films made so far.
Today we have a new featurette called “The Beginning” with new footage from the film along with interviews with the cast and crew. This featurette is actually the best piece of marketing for the film I've seen so far. There's also a second featurette that focuses on Paula Patton's transformation into the character Garona.
I also included a series of portraits that focus on the CGI characters of the film and the actors who portray them. They highlight the transformation that took place to turn these humans into Orcs for this film.
The effects of the film were done by Ilm, and they did such an incredible job bringing these characters to life. The detail...

Director Duncan Jones previously confirmed that his soon to be released Warcraft film is the first installment of a trilogy that they have put into motion. Having seen this film, it’s easy to see where the story for the entire trilogy is headed. It does a great job setting everything up, and it will be awesome to see the story that Jones started continue over the course of the next couple of films.
During the Warcraft press conference that I attended, Jones was asked to say something about the trilogy and where his story is headed. As you might imagine, he didn't go into any crazy details, but he did offer up the following tease:
“You don’t make films this big and not hope that you’re going to get the chance to make maybe one or two more. I know Chris Metzen, who works at Blizzard and myself have talked about,...

Check out the brand new trailer for Warcraft (or, "Warcraft: The Beginning") below. These last two Warcraft posters spotlight a couple of characters that have been largely absent from the movie's promotion thus far: Medivh and Khadgar. Both of these guys are Mages that begin fighting for the alliance, but one may have some hidden motives - if the movie follows the story laid out in the video games, that is. With movies based on branded entertainment and licensed product, it's never about just one movie. When "Warcraft" opens this summer, both Universal and Blizzard Entertainment are hoping the video-game adaptation will become a franchise, and even director Duncan Jones has visions of a trilogy dancing in his brain. Read More: Discuss: Are We On The Cusp Of A Video Game Movie Revolution? This past Friday the full trailer of Warcraft premiered as BlizzCon 2015, and it was quite an amazing experience watching it in a room full of Warcraft fans. I haven't played Warcraft since Warcraft II, but I don’t think you will have had to play the game to be able to enjoy this movie. This seems like it will be the kind of film that will appeal to all fantasy movie fans! Judging by the reactions to the trailer, though, some people are surprisingly not that excited for it.

While the sizzle reel that rocked Hall H earlier this year continues to elude the Internet masses, Empire has unearthed a trio of all-new images for Duncan Jones’ Warcraft movie that ought to sate our collective appetite for at least a little while.
Shining the spotlight on the CG wizardry of Industrial Light & Magic, the stills take you up close and personal with both the Alliance of the Horde, with Orgrim Doomhammer (Robert Kazinsky) looking particularly impressive. Indeed, it’s understood that this trio in question – Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel) and Toby Kebbel’s Durotan also feature in today’s pictures – will serve as the three nominal characters of the big-budget video game adaptation, and there’s no question that the advanced tech will allow for a more nuanced performance in terms of the towering Orcs.

There's a planned trilogy of Warcraft movies, and "I want to be the guy to deliver that", says Duncan Jones.
Heading into cinemas in June 2016 is the first new Duncan Jones movie since 2011. For the second consecutive year, director Duncan Jones brought a sizzle reel for his upcoming Warcraft to San Diego Comic-Con, and for the second consecutive year, said footage remained locked behind closed doors. However, in keeping with this year’s trend of leaked trailers, a bootleg version of the clip from this year’s show has appeared online, showcasing the director’s mystical, expansive take on Azeroth.
