Whether or not you’re a fan of the series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is undoubtedly one of the most important manga and anime franchises in history, although it never became a mainstream title (and we can think of several reasons why that is). The manga by Hirohiko Araki is still ongoing and has been since 1987, and there are still a lot of adventures and arcs up for adaptation, but the status of the popular anime adaptation is uncertain.

In 1987, when manga-ka Hirohiko Araki penned the first chapters of "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure," he was still exploring what would later be known as his signature artistic style. Soon, "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" became Araki's magnum opus, and the long-running series is widely celebrated for its unique use of standard shonen tropes. The influence of Araki's manga series is so great that it inspired a string of manga, anime, and video games, including the "Persona" franchise, which owes a lot to the concept of "Stands" in Araki's series.
Araki sets the events of "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" in 1800s England, wherein Jonathan Joestar, aka JoJo, and his brother Dio Brando are engaged in a feud over the inheritance of familial property. Things take a supernatural turn after Dio becomes a vampire, and JoJo is forced to learn magical techniques to combat his brother. Part three of the manga, which is the most popular in the series,...

Shounen Jump is the most popular manga magazine in the world. "Naruto," "Demon Slayer" and "Dragon Ball" are all Shounen Jump comics, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. But there's a science to the magazine's success. In his alternative history of bizarre '80s cult manga, "Manga Zombie," the critic Takeo Udagawa describes Shounen Jump's "Great Two" system. The first step is to bind writers and artists to the magazine via tight contracts, preventing them from taking their work elsewhere. The second step is reader polls, which determine the fate of Shounen Jump's output. Manga that makes a bad first impression is either...

Anime shows rose to prominence in the ’80 and ’90s, and thanks to a solid fanbase, the genre is still going strong. But for those fans who don’t have Netflix, or may not be familiar with streaming platform Crunchyroll, you can also catch your favorite anime shows streaming on Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and Sling TV.
If you’re not signed up for one (or more) of those platforms, you won’t have to break the bank to access plenty of TV shows and movies. Hulu’s monthly subscription is just $5.99 (with ads), or $13.99 for ad-free streaming. There’s also an option to bundle the service with Disney+ and ESPN+ for $13.99 month...

This article contains spoilers for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is beloved by shounen anime fans for its nonstop action, absurd and over-the-top showdowns, and creative Stands (physical manifestations of one’s true self). It’s a bombastic series that defies predictions. We’re still waiting for the fifth part of the manga, Stone Ocean, to be released as an anime adaptation, and the story is still ongoing. Strangely, there’s still no confirmation that a fifth season is even coming yet.
In the meantime, however, we got something of a holdover: Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan. An adaptation of a series of one-shot chapters from JoJo creator Hirohiko Araki, it bridges the gap between the fourth season, Diamond is Unbreakable, and the fifth season, Vento Aureo. But while it follows manga artist Kishibe Rohan and what he’s been up to between both seasons,...

Netflix has turned into a great destination to explore unique anime series, both in terms of classics as well as the next big hits. Netflix is now playing host to Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, which is a four-episode Ova (Original Video Animation) series that’s connected to the long-running JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise. Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan presents four contrasting stories that form a collection of disturbing and suspenseful examinations of the human condition.
The series operates like a highly atypical animated anthology program and its compelling art design combined with the fact that it’s only four episodes long may leave many curious to check out the odd series. However, it’s understandable that some may be intimidated to give Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan a chance if they’re not familiar with the anime that it’s spun off from. To help make the exciting new Ova series as accessible as possible,...

Isn’t it just the worst when you’re out with friends at your favorite restaurant and everyone’s discussing Assassination Classroom and you’re unable to jump in? How about when you’re waiting for the bus to arrive and people are discussing the latest Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure plot twist? Or when your cashier at the supermarket tries to make small talk and naturally namedrops the eternal equalizer, Space Dandy, and you just have to quietly look at your shoes?
Okay, so anime’s presence might not be quite at that level, but the popularity of the once-niche area of the animation industry only continues to blossom and become more mainstream. Not only are there now ample anime series that are available on popular streaming services,...

It’s not particularly notable that Warner Bros. is developing a live-action adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s popular manga series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (Jojo No Kimyo Na Boken). Most of the films the studio is putting out in the next half-decade are based on comic books. No, what’s interesting is that they’re actually allowing a real life Asian actor to take the lead role, instead of a regular ol’ white actor like Matt Damon or Jim Sturgess. The protagonist, Josuke Higashikata, will be played by 22-year-old Tokyo-born Kento Yamazaki.
Part of the reason that JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure—about a clan of good guys with superpowers who fight bad guys with superpowers—isn’t being Last Airbender-ed is that Warner Bros. is co-producing the action-fantasy film with Toho, the Japanese studio behind 28 Godzilla movies. Another is that it’s being directed by Takashi Miike, the ...
