Twelve months ago, Anjimile wouldn’t have thought twice about touring on his own. In the summer of 2022, the North Carolina-based indie folk singer toured as the opening act for the band Tune-Yards and felt safe tagging along in a car by himself behind the headliner’s van. Not today, though. As a Black transgender person traveling alone, fear of harassment — if not worse — lurks around every corner.
“I don’t think that that’s something I feel comfortable doing now,” says Anjimile, who will release his second album, The King,...

“Chasing Dreams” is also co-written and performed by music producer/artist Gozé and features Old Man Saxon and trans artist Shea Diamond. As the national conversation changed dramatically in the past four years, centering the importance of amplifying underrepresented voices and cultures, it altered the context of pop culture, as well. Many unscripted programs rose to the challenge by continuously casting more inclusively — whether it be a particular season’s contestants, episode-specific subjects or series-long hosts. Through these players, the shows are able to shine an international spotlight on the immigrant experience, racial divides, prejudices and concerns of the Lgbtqia+ community.

It’s no surprise that politics took center stage at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards.
While Rachel Maddow accepted her award for outstanding TV journalism segment for her interview with Pete Buttigeig on “The Rachel Maddow Show,“ she said, “We are at a point where an openly gay TV host can accept an award for an interview with an openly gay major presidential candidate. Progress in this country is very rarely linear, and it barely happens on its own. If you are at all inspired by the progress you see, please vote, organize, run for office, and if you’re enraged by the regression that you see, please vote, organize and run for office.”
Since 1990, GLAAD Media Awards has celebrated the visibility of LGBTQ experiences in media and honored accurate and inclusive representations of queer people or color. In lieu of its usual glamorous setup in New York City,...

Tom Morello has teamed up with Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds, producer duo the Bloody Beetroots, and artist/activist Shea Diamond for a new protest song, “Stand Up,” inspired by ongoing protests for racial justice across the nation.
The explosive, Nineties-esque rap-rock track features Reynolds and Diamond outlining the racial injustices in the U.S. through their own experiences.
“When I call the police, will they just kill me?/Will they just kill you?” Reynolds spits. “When I call the police, will they just protect me ’cause I’m white-skinned too?...

Because they typically write raw, meaningful songs together, it was a treat for the pair to write something so danceable. “What I love about it is that she still gets to be Shea, she still gets to be a proud Black trans woman who writes these amazing lyrics but we got to...

Award-winning actress Sally Fields and her son Sam Greisman are among the first wave of stars supporting the Human Rights Campaign’s “Americans for the Equality Act,” which launched March 25. In the series’ debut video, filmed by award-winning directors Dustin Lance Black and Paris Barclay, Fields talks to her son about his own journey to accepting his sexuality.

In the coming weeks, the star-studded campaign will cut a swath through every industry, featuring stars such as Olympic figure skaters Adam Rippon and Shea Diamond, to actors Jamie Lee Curtis and Jesse Tyler Ferguson as they stand behind the Equality Act.
