The Asian Film Awards Academy is proud to announce the launch of the International Film Camp (IFC), a groundbreaking initiative aims to nurtue and empower the next generation of Asian filmmakers. Escapist entertainment is suddenly at least three times as important as it was a few days ago. So, it’s comforting to hear that Chad Stahelski (John Wick) will direct all the high-octane action for three of Asia’s biggest stars for an as-yet-untitled project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thailand’s Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior), China’s Tiger Hu Chen (Man Of Tai Chi), and Indonesia’s Iko Uwais (The Raid: Redemption) have all signed on for the Kungfuman Culture Media and Hamilton Entertainment production.
Scripted by Dwayne Smith, and co-directed by Stahelski and Wang Xiaolie, Triple Threat will follow the experiences of a Chinese martial artist who travels into Mexico to save his ex-wife and their son from a drug cartel. Exclusive: UK sales outfit boards 3D family fantasy with Willow Shields.
Metro International has boarded sales on completed UK-China-New Zealand family adventure movie Into The Rainbow (formerly The Wonder).
The Hunger Games’ Willow Shields, Chinese star Leo Wu, Taiwanese actress Joe Chen, Maria Grazia Cucinotta and Archie Kao star in the story of two teenagers who travel inside a super-powered rainbow to China.
Norman Stone (Shadowlands) and Gary Wing-Lun Mak (My Beautiful Kingdom) direct the 3D feature written by Ashley Sidaway, Robert Sidaway and Lindsay Edmonds. Producers include Richard Fletcher (Boy) and Iain Brown (Indian Summer).
The English-language production is part-financed by Tien Ran Media Group, a subsidiary of e-commerce giant Alibaba. The Golden Era distributor Stellar Mega Films is due to release locally.
The project was previously handled by Embankment Films.

Martial arts fans have been revelling in the last 24 hours while possibly spotting a peculiar photo collage or two online as of late featuring action stars Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa and Tiger Chen. Well, for those wondering and still stuck in mystery, you'll find that update via exclusive over at Film Combat Syndicate of the new 'Asian Expendables' themed thriller, Makeshift Sqaud, which is aiming to film early next year. The cast, is so far joined by actress Angelababy with Gary Mak (a.k.a. Alan Mak), whose credits include assistant directing films like The Grandmaster (2013) and Bodyguards And Assassins (2009), in the director's chair with locations tentatively set for China and Malaysia. Most other details and plot information are still pending and under wraps...

Newly minted Beijing-based international sales outfit Turbo Films has launched with a slate including veteran director He Ping’s Toronto drama The Promised Land.
The only Asian entry in Tiff’s Platform section, writer-director-producer He Ping’s first film set in the present day spotlights the massive internal migration that has seen millions of young people leaving their rural towns and villages to try and find a new life in China’s biggest cities.
Wang Jiajia (Wheat, So Young) and Zhang Yi (Mountains May Depart) star in the drama from production outfits Classics Media Co. and Beijing Junfei Century Culture Media Co.
Turbo Films, backed by a trio of private investors, is aiming to sell local-language fare with international appeal in the global market and has already amassed a busy slate.
