Top Dog is a feisty crime drama written by Green Street writer Dougie Brimson, the film charts the fall of reformed bad boy Billy Evans (Leo Gregory), who leads a strong cast including Dannielle Brent and Lorraine Stanley.
The film is the second feature from director Martin Kemp, who takes care to ensure that his film has heart, as well as a good old-fashioned fight. We sat with the director himself, alongside Leo Gregory, to discuss their work on the production.
Top Dog is in cinemas from Friday 23rd May and out to own on Blu-ray and DVD on Monday 26th May through Universal Pictures. Read our review here.

Crime dramas, crime thrillers, gangster films. They often get a bad rap – and it’s not hard to see why when there’s a constant stream of poorly made, low budget films being spurned out with the same boring plot where someone shoots someone because he ‘mugged off’ wotshisname / stole the drugs / snitched on so-and-so. So it’s something of a relief when something comes along that’s been made with a little more effort, which is where Martin Kemp’s Top Dog comes into play.
Top Dog was brought to life by Green Street writer Dougie Brimson and lead actor Leo Gregory, who plays bad-boy-turned-good Billy Evans. Evans makes the fatal faux pas of trying to protect his family from a local gang who are charging them protection money – so far, so ordinary. But director Kemp is evidently keen on attempting to present something a little different. There is...

If I was to ask you to think of action movies set in tower blocks you could probably come up with movies like Die Hard, Dredd and The Raid as being some of the most popular. Working with these type of settings it allows the film to have a certain controlled level of action and even set the fighting at levels of hardness. This is something that He Who Dares does, but at a low-budget and with a certain degree of British patriotism.
When the Prime Minister’s daughter is kidnapped and held hostage in an underground car park rigged to explode the S.A.S are called in to handle the situation. Soon finding themselves trapped in the complex with resources low and men dying, the...

He Who Dares, the latest film from Paul Tanter (The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan), has officially wrapped production. The movie is a British action thriller described as a cross between The Raid and Die Hard. And with a description like that, our interest is understandably piqued.
Due out at the end of the year, we’ve been given the first poster for He Who Dares to debut, bearing the slogan, ‘Fight. Kill. Win.’ Just the kind of sentiment you want from an action film.

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by producer Paul Tanter. **there are minor spoilers here. Director: Simon Phillips. Writers: James Crow and Simon Phillips. Cast: Nick Nevern, Kellie Shirley, Jenna Harrison, Con O'Neill, Peter Barrett, Roland Manookian, Lorraine Stanley, Mark Harris, Charlie Bond, Steven Berkoff, and Merveille Lukeba. Tagline: "Hooligan first, cop second." GBH is the latest film to come out of the United Kingdom from actor and director Simon Phillips and distributor Revolver Entertainment. The film is set during the London riots of 2011. In this setting, a love story develops between characters Damien (Nick Nevern) and Louise (Kelly Shirley). Violent events split them apart. The film offers an anti-violent message, but that message might be lost amongst all of the chaos occurring onscreen. Overall, GBH is an entertaining film with only a couple film elements hampering the film's full potential. If you did not know.

Stars: Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins, Andrea Riseborough, Jaime Winstone, Lorraine Stanley, Nicola Duffett, Geraldine James | Written by William Ivory | Directed by Nigel Cole
For any female looking for a bit of a self-esteem boost, this film will absolutely hit the spot. The characters are endearing, the story is inspiring and the entertainment running throughout keeps you glued to the screen. You can’t watch this without wishing you were there to experience the incredible movement these women made in society. Don’t get this confused with a chic-flick though, because this has a far deeper level to it than your Drew Barrymore film.
Based in Dagenham where Rita O’Grady (Sally Hawkins) made her name, the girls involved really are fun to watch. They’re cheeky, charming and you can easily gain a connection with them. Added with this, we have Bob Hoskins there to guide and...

Mostly, what Paul Andrew Williams' "London to Brighton" (2006) has in its threadbare arsenal, shy of budget and time and scale, is a small propane tank of hot nerve. This is the kind of indie that opens in mid-adrenaline-spike (two women, bloody and beaten, burst into a public restroom, running for their lives) and proceeds to paint a sparse portrait of modern life that slowly constricts on the two protagonists like a fatal case of lockjaw.
It's an exercise in economy and efficiency, of course -- Williams' "London" is one of the most memorable résumé films of recent years, but it's still a résumé movie. If you want to send up flags about your ability to glue your audience's eyes to the screen, this is one way to do it. (Much to the disappointment of British critics, who loved "London to Brighton," Williams has since been spinning his wheels in psycho-killer genre ditties.

NEW YORK -- A gritty British gangster film that leaves a bitter aftertaste, Paul Andrew Williams' London to Brighton is as technically assured as it is ultimately superfluous. This tale of a hardened but goodhearted prostitute and the young girl she reluctantly recruits has an all-too- familiar feel coming at the tail end of the wave of so many similarly themed efforts.
The film begins in audacious fashion as beat-up hooker Kelly (Lorraine Stanley) and the hysterical 12-year-old Joanne (Georgia Groome) desperately burst into a public restroom, with a title informing us that it is London, 3:07 a.m.
The time-shifting chronology that follows details how the two got into their predicament, with Kelly being pressured by her pimp, Derek (Johnny Harris), to procure a young girl for his boss, the short-tempered gangster Stuart (Sam Spruell). It turns out that Stuart wants the girl not for himself but for his father (Alexander Morton), who has a taste for underage girls.
Things don't turn out well during the encounter, with the father winding up dead and the two women being pursued by their desperate pimp. It all culminates with the usual onslaught of violence and betrayals.
Shot in an ultra-realistic style using plenty of jerky hand-held camerawork, the melodramatic film lacks the emotional resonance necessary to compensate for its relentless graphic brutality. Its saving grace are the performances by the two female leads, who bring complex shadings to their roles, and the charismatic underplaying of Spruell, who makes his repugnant gangster character far more fascinating than he has a right to be.
