There is no denying that Robert Downey Jr. is an effortlessly cool person. And he perfectly portrayed the enigmatic Sherlock Holmes on screen a few years back. But even the smoothest operator can have some questionable ideas sometimes. Therefore, while preparing for the iconic role, Downey Jr. considered a look more specifically decided to grow a creepy-looking mustache to give the character a significant look.

Ross in the MCU, making appearances in Black Panther and Captain America: Civil War, and also playing the role of Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy.

It has been more than 15 years since Guy Ritchie released his Sherlock Holmes offering with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. A lot has changed in the film industry since then, with the 59-year-old becoming a mega star thanks to his pivotal involvement in the MCU.
Now that Downey Jr. has hung up his Iron Man suit, he is interested in making a third offering in the Sherlock Holmes film series. This is reportedly in the pipeline, but it hasn’t been confirmed yet. It has been announced that there will be at least one spinoff series, though, which could be set to reinvigorate the franchise.
Detective Remains at Forefront of Popular Culture
There are rumours that there will be two spinoff series, which are due to be released on HBO Max. This could be a clever move from the streaming service, as the Sherlock Holmes brand is massive in popular culture.

Trust issues: The UK’s fabled drama production community has been beset by short- and long-term issues in recent times. While Mr Bates Vs the Post Office has reminded everyone how a good scripted show can cut through, that knowledge isn’t much of a comfort to ailing freelancers whose expertize doesn’t always feel as valued as it should be. What do you get when you have a series with a trio featuring a half-oni/half-human, an immortal severed head in a bird cage, and a tough-as-nails maid that can beat up just about anyone? You get a really fun show in Undead Murder Farce , but also a series that has style for days. Even on its own with just the story and mysteries it tells, Undead Murder Farce would still probably be one of my favorite shows of the last year. The stylistic decisions with regard to shot composition, character and environmental design, scene transitions, music, and generally how it looks — amongst other aspects — elevate the show to becoming not only more fun to watch, but something that’s pretty special as well. One of the first things you’ll notice when watching episodes or even just seeing screenshots is that character design was an important aspect of the overall production.

Exclusive: In October 2023, the British TV drama community was as confused as it was surprised to be told that some of the most well-known production companies in the country were being investigated by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for “suspected anti-competitive behaviour.”
For those suddenly finding themselves in the proverbial dock, that feeling swiftly turned to fear as they were struck by the reality of being investigated by an authority that they knew little about.
Now, with the CMA’s six-month-long initial investigation period drawing to a close, Deadline has spoken with those inside and outside of the investigation to assess the state of play.
We are told that those being probed are having to hand over troves of WhatsApps and emails to lawyers in order to prove innocence, are spending hours and hours dealing with CMA questions, and yet are still unsure as to why they in particular are under the microscope.

The conclusion of season 2 of The Afterparty has brought us much amusement. The series follows the dynamic between an ordinary individual and a detective (now an ex-detective in season 2) as they team up to unravel murder mysteries. It’s a unique blend of comedy and detective procedural, a combination that works surprisingly well. While there aren’t many shows that precisely fit this mold, we believe most of the ones we’ve listed are strong contenders for different reasons. Many of these series are nostalgic, and reflecting on them now, we’re tempted to revisit them. Since some of these shows span over five seasons, they offer a substantial amount of entertainment. ‘ We’ve hand-picked some shows with dynamic duos that will keep you entertained, much like Danner and Aniq, who rely on their wit and humor to crack cases in The Afterparty.

Downey and Cumberbatch had more than the MCU in common. The two actors also portrayed different versions of iconic literary figure Sherlock Holmes. Downey played the character in 2009’s titular movie Sherlock Holmes and its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Cumberbatch would play the character in the BBC mini-series Sherlock for four seasons.
In a 2014 interview with Collider, Cumberbatch explained that he was able to share notes about Sherlock with Downey.
“I sat down on the sofa with Robert Downey, Jr. last night, and we had our first conversation and shared notes on playing Sherlock Holmes.

Since the one-two punch of Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie, British mysteries have been one of the island nation’s greatest exports alongside Shakespeare. The genre has long informed American procedural shows, both consciously and subconsciously (see: every emotionless Sherlock-esque detective in history). However, nothing has changed the landscape more than Happy Valley, rightly viewed as a landmark turning point in the storied British mystery, helping usher in an era of working-class realism to the genre and spawning imitators on both sides of the pond.

In 2017, Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi told a credulous tabloid that he hoped his next project after the Tardis would be a Steven Moffat-written revival of 1970s sitcom On the Buses. “I have got a Blakey in me,” Capaldi assured The Sun, referring to Stephen Lewis’ dyspeptic bus inspector character. Moffat ran with the joke, agreeing whole-heartedly that after Sherlock, bringing back On the Buses would be his natural next move.
Five years later, when Inside No. 9 creators Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton wanted to pull their audience’s leg, On the Buses once again served as a punch line. Among the first look images of series eight was one of the creators and cheeky 1970s sex comedy star Robin Askwith in full On the Buses costume. Finally! When "Reacher" ended its first season on Prime Video last year, it left the door open for future adventures featuring scrappy Georgia police officer — and Jack Reacher's sometimes-lover— Roscoe Conklin (Willa Fitzgerald). The British director, best known for Cockney gangster fare, has helmed a war film set in Afghanistan that deals with the trauma of the battlefield and the American military's hypocrisy towards the residents of the land it occupied. All that and he's put his name in the title: "Guy Ritchie's The Covenant." It's all very stern stuff, the kind of thing that's easy to mock. Indeed, Ritchie isn't a director who has necessarily commanded critical adoration over the decades. He's made a lot of money and can easily be counted as one of the most influential British directors of his time.

This article contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets."
In the second season of "Yellowjackets," Misty Quigley (Christina Ricci) and her reluctant bestie Natalie Scatorccio (Juliette Lewis) have been separated — one friend being kidnapped by a cult will do that. So now, Misty has a new partner in (solving) crime, Walter Tattersall (Elijah Wood). They're both part of the "Citizen Detective" online forum and Walter is hot on the trail of the disappeared artist Adam Martin (Peter Gadiot).
Misty always downvotes his theories — for good reason, because Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), another of her semi-friends, is the one who killed Adam. Misty even helped her clean up the crime scene back in season 1. However, Walter is a longtime admirer of "AfricanGrey" and when Misty turns to the forum for help in finding Natalie, he orchestrates an in-person meeting between them — both of them show up to it having gleaned each other's real names. Grand Admiral Thrawn is finally flesh and bone.
Lars Mikkelsen is set to play the longstanding “Star Wars” villain on the upcoming Disney+ series “Ahsoka,” Lucasfilm announced on Saturday as part of the Star Wars Celebration fan convention in London. Mikkelsen — brother of actor Mads Mikkelsen — also joined the cast of “Ahsoka” onstage at the end of the panel, saying that “it’s wonderful” to be cast in the live-action role.
Thrawn was originally created by author Timothy Zahn as part of a series of Star Wars novels released in the 1990s that covered the events following 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.” In those books, Thrawn was a cunning and ruthless Grand Admiral in the Empire who takes control of what’s left of the Imperial fleet and mounts a counter-offensive to take down the New Republic.

Anything with the name Holmes in it is bound to attract viewers. Earlier, tons of series were created with Sherlock Holmes as the protagonist. Then in 2020, Netflix dropped a movie about Sherlock’s younger sister Enola Holmes. The film was met with critical acclaim as well as audience praise. The story about the struggles of young Enola may have been set in a different century but it resonated with today’s generation too. It was a heartwarming tale about a young girl who was on a journey to find out about her mother’s whereabouts. Along the way, she met various interesting

With a sequel well on its way, Netflix's "Enola Holmes" film series has firmly carved out its place among the plethora of Holmes-focused adaptations. This is not only thanks to an inspired performance by Millie Bobby Brown in the titular role, but to Henry Cavill, who plays her on-screen brother, Sherlock Holmes. The lighter tone, relative to other adaptations, lets the actors have fun with the high stakes mysteries and familial relationships. Relegating Sherlock Holmes to a supporting role works far more than it reads on paper, and Cavill capitalizes on that fact in spades.
Although it seems like a miscasting at first glance, the "Man of Steel" actor embodies the long-tenured character with ease and confidence. However, even Cavill himself was shocked that he was approached for the role in the first place. The uber-intelligent fictional detective is typically played by less physically imposing figures on the...

Like a department store that pulls out its winter holiday items weeks before All Hallows' Eve, Netflix isn't going to let a little thing like the calendar stop it from bombarding its subscribers with Christmas movies in November. That's not to say the streamer's exclusive yuletide rom-coms are all bad — quite the opposite, in fact (consider this your friendly reminder to finally watch "Single All the Way" this year).
Fortunately, if films like "Falling for Christmas" (aka the long-awaited Lindsay Lohan Netflix Christmas movie) aren't your bag, there are plenty of other options on the service to choose from that month. Perhaps you'd be more inclined to watch "Slumberland," Francis Lawrence's fantasy film adaptation of Winsor McCay's classic "Little Nemo in Slumberland" comic strips starring Jason Momoa as a shaggy-furred half-man, half-animal with mountain goat horns and an impeccably flamboyant fashion sense? Sherlock Holmes films and TV shows have been all the rage since most of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories about the character entered the public domain at the turn of the century. In the years that have followed, the super-sleuth and his deerstalker hat have been re-imagined as everything from a troubled modern-day detective to a quirky 19th-century investigator to a cartoon garden gnome prone to twerking. Okay, fine, I made that last one up (no I didn't).
Consistently, however, Sherlock is portrayed as a bit of a jerk who's rarely fussed about the feelings of others, with the notable exception of Henry Cavill's curly-haired take on the crime-solver in "Enola Holmes." The delightful 2020 film stars Millie Bobby Brown as Enola, the younger sister to Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes (Sam Claflin) and a detective-in-the-making encouraged by their mother, Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter), to rebel against the sexist standards of Victorian society.

Detective Enola Holmes is on the case again! Netflix has just released the full trailer for "Enola Holmes 2," the follow-up to 2020's "Enola Holmes." Millie Bobby Brown stars as the younger sister of legendary detective Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill) who has been raised by her mother Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter) to be something more than the typical young woman of the time in London. When her mother disappeared in the first film and left her clues, Enola set out to find her, despite her gender, age, and the men around her working against her.
The original film -- based on Nancy Springer's "Enola Holmes Mysteries" book series -- was originally set to be released in theaters, but the pandemic changed all that. "Enola Holmes" ended up as one of Netflix's most-watched new releases in 2020 though, and for good reason. It was a lovely film about a young woman...

The release of "Enola Holmes" back in 2020 proved to be a big success for Netflix, so it's no surprise that a sequel is the way soon. Bringing back Millie Bobby Brown as the titular kid detective, "Enola Holmes 2" follows her on a quest to find another missing person. This time, instead of her mother Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter) or the young Lord Tewkesbury, the missing person is a young woman named Sarah Chapman, who works at the Bryant & May match factory.
If you are familiar with the history of labor strikes in the United Kingdom, then the names of Chapman and the factory might be familiar. That's because "Enola Holmes 2" is based around the Matchgirls' Strike of 1888, according to a new feature in Total Film. In the first film, released in 2020, the “Stranger Things” star made her debut as Enola, and in the followup she’s now following in the footsteps of her famous brother (played once again by Henry Cavill) by setting up shop as a detective-for-hire.

Millie Bobby Brown’s Enola Holmes is back on the case in the official trailer for ‘Enola Holmes 2’, which will arrive on Netflix on November 4, reports ‘Variety’. An extension of the iconic Sherlock Holmes character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the franchise, ‘Variety’ adds, stars Brown as the youngest sibling of the Holmes family, who must come into her own as a capable detective, while facing down her brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill).
The sequel and its predecessor are based on ‘The Enola Holmes Mysteries’, the young adult fiction book series created by Nancy Springer.
The first film chronicled Enola’s search for her mother Eudoria Holmes, played by Helena Bonham Carter, which offered many twists and turns for the young sleuth to navigate. Netflix describes the mystery of the sequel as one of “historic proportions”, needing “two Holmes to handle”, indicating a larger role for Cavill’s Sherlock.
