Ahead of the UK premiere of his latest film Terrifier at the Horror Channel Frightfest Halloween event on Sat 23 Oct, director Damien Leone talks about the ’Art’ of extreme clowning, his debt to Tom Savini and a terrifying Halloween experience…
Art The Clown initially appeared in your 2008 short The 9th Circle, then the 2011 award-winning short Terrifier and in your first feature All Hallow’S Eve. What made you decide to give him a fourth outing?
Up until this point I never felt like I fully showcased Art’s potential. I believe between the short films and All Hallows’ Eve, there only exists about 20 minutes of Art the Clown screen time. For a character who’s done so little, he seems to really resonate with horror fans. After all of the positive feedback, a full length film that focused solely on Art was inevitable.

A long-awaited toxicology report shows Austin Harrouff was not, as authorities openly speculated at the time, on flakka or bath salts when he allegedly killed a Florida couple at their home and tried to eat one of the victim’s faces, People confirms.
Martin County Sheriff William Snyder initially told reporters Harrouff could “absolutely” have been on the synthetic drug flakka when he allegedly killed John Stevens and Michelle Mischon in the garage of their Tequesta, Florida, home on Aug. 15.
“It absolutely could be a flakka case,” Snyder said soon after the killings, fueling widespread media attention.

On Aug. 22, 1998, Tera Smith, then 16 and the high school homecoming queen of the freshman class, left home in Redding, California, dressed to go jogging.
She was never seen again.
Sherri Papini — a mom of two and former schoolmate of Tera’s who disappeared 18 years later during a jog in Redding about two-and-a-half miles from where Tera vanished — had a luckier outcome: She was found alive, but beaten and chained, on Thanksgiving morning, following an apparent abduction.

How much can really change in 10 years? We're so glad you asked. As music lovers know, tonight marks the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards where Hollywood's most recognized faces and voices will descend on New York City's Madison Square Garden for a live, unpredictable show. But before Kanye West, Britney Spears and Rihanna become the talk of the evening, we just have to take a trip down memory lane. It's time to rewind and throw it back to 2006. 10 years ago on a late August night, Jack Black hosted the annual MTV show from Radio City Music Hall where Shakira and Red Hot Chili Peppers received the most nominations. As for who won the highly coveted Video of the Year, credit has to be given to...

In 2006 blair dorosh-walther, who identifies as gender non-conforming and uses male and female pronouns, read an article in The New York Times entitled "Man is Stabbed after Admiring a Stranger" and was immediately compelled to make a film. "Out in the Night," premiering at Laff this year, takes us beyond sensationalist headlines and gives a voice to the four women labelled as a "Gang of Killer Lesbians," who for all intents and purposes were simply defending themselves one hot August night. [Editor's Note: Indiewire reached out to filmmakers with films playing at the 20th La Film Festival (June 11-19) to ask them about how they shot their indie, and what advice they had for other filmmakers. New York — Misty-eyed music promoter Sid Bernstein, who booked such top acts as Jimi Hendrix, Judy Garland and the Rolling Stones and hit the highest heights when he masterminded the Beatles' historic concerts at Shea Stadium and Carnegie Hall, died Wednesday at age 95.
Bernstein's daughter, Casey Deutsch, said he died in his sleep at a hospital. She cited no illness and said he died of natural causes.
For decades, the squat, floppy-haired Bernstein excelled like few others at being everywhere and knowing everybody. He worked with Garland, Duke Ellington and Ray Charles, promoted Dion, Bobby Darin and Chubby Checker and managed Esy Morales, the Rascals and Ornette Coleman. He was an early backer of Abba, setting up the Swedish group's first American appearances. He was behind one of the first rock benefit shows, the 1970 "Winter Festival for Peace" at Madison Square Garden, which featured Hendrix and Peter, Paul and Mary.

There is a list a mile long of different things that can kill you in the Louisiana swamps. Alligator. Snakes. The occasional run-in with a "True Blood" vampire. One item was added to that last in the Summer of 2010: Chainsaws. The man wielding that chainsaw is more often than not Leatherface himself, hacking up innocent civilians for his family's BBQ and doing a great job of it in many Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequels. The results of his latest spree hit theaters Friday in Texas Chainsaw 3D. I was lucky enough to see firsthand on a hot, August night outside of Shreveport just what went into bringing a horror icon back. One thing you need when bringing a horror icon back to cinematic life is cotton candy. Lots and lots of cotton candy. And a giant Ferris Wheel. This was what our van of journalists were in store for when...

Traffic: Mr. Fantasy Aka Heaven Is in Your Mind (Island)
Shortly after Steve Winwood quit the Spencer Davis Group (of which he was the lead singer and organist), he formed Traffic with some guys he'd jammed with at a club in Birmingham: guitarist/vocalist Dave Mason, saxophonist/flutist Chris Wood, and drummer/lyricist Jim Capaldi. After a couple of hit singles, they convened at a country cottage and put together the debut album by Traffic, titled Mr. Fantasy in their native country. By the time it was released, Mason had already quit.

New York, N.Y. - A frightfully nervous Tig Notaro stood just offstage at the Los Angeles club Largo while Ed Helms introduced her.
The audience of 300 and Notaro's fellow performers that August night had no idea what she was about to do. They had no idea she was going to address the trauma and pain that had been the last few months of her life, or relay the bad news she had received just days earlier. They had no idea she was about to perform the bravest set they had ever seen.
"Good evening! Hello. I have cancer. How are you?"
With those words — said cavalierly in the normal stand-up greeting manner — Notaro launched into a 30-minute performance that immediately became legendary in comedy circles and that's now available as an unlikely live album via a $5 digital release by comedian Louis C.K. In just a week, it's sold more than 60,000 copies.

As one of the most popular live performers in the world, Neil Diamond has a lot of venues he can call his own, but only one he can truly call home: L.A.’s Greek Theatre. As the story goes, and the new 40th anniversary edition of Hot August Night confirms, in 1972, Diamond was on the verge of superstardom. He needed one major signature event to make the leap and the multi-platinum Hot August Night, recorded at the Greek on August 24, 1972, became that transcendent moment. After that date, Neil Diamond became an icon. He acknowledged his

It's doc day on S&A. They just happen to make up the bulk of what I'm getting/seeing today. This one is just as intriguing as all the others I featured earlier this morning/afternoon. Titled The Fire This Time, and directed by Blair Doroshwalther, the feature doc appears to have been in development since 2009 (that's as far back as I was able to trace it), as the filmmaker and her production crew have been working diligently, with little money, earned from grants and donors here and there, in order to complete its long journey to completion. In case there was ever any doubt about the awesomeness of "I Just Want My Pants Back," tonight's Season 1 finale brings out the absolute best in the show. We were laughing out loud by minute three, when Jason (Peter Vack) has a life changing moment -- for real -- while sitting on a toilet.

Allison Strong, Union City, N.J.When I turned the key to my grandmother's door a few weeks ago, I expected to find her waiting for me behind it as she always did. Instead, all I found was an apartment full of memories. Ever since I was a child I've come to Colombia during my summer vacations to visit my grandma. This year I came to accompany my mom and aunt as they put her apartment up for rent and parted with many of her belongings. I expected to feel abandoned. I expected to feel an even stronger hurt from the loss I suffered a little over a year ago. I expected so many things that, thankfully, never came to light. On a relatively cool August night in Hollywood, "MasterChef" judges Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot welcome select hungry journalists -- Zap2it included -- to celebrate the launch of Fox's new culinary competition show.
Bastianich is gracious enough to open the doors to the private Jack Warner dining room at Pizzeria Mozza, a restaurant he opened with Chef Mario Batali. The room is lined by wine bottles, while votives flicker and heavy gothic red seats march along each side of the long table that seats 18.
As soon as I walk in, I'm offered a glass of sparkling rose. It's a good start to the evening.
My main aim (besides stuffing myself with savory Italian food) of the night is to get to know Bastianich and Elliot, who aren't as recognizable on TV as their fellow judge Gordon Ramsay. Is Bastianich as forbidding as he seems? Will he stare cryptically and not say a word?...

Here's some news that you didn't expect to come on a random August night: Scott Bakula, speaking at a Quantum Leap retrospective panel at this year's Comic Con, announced that series creator Donald P. Bellisario is currently working on a script for a Quantum Leap feature film. Sadly, however, Bakula said that he and Dean Stockwell, who played hologram and time travel guide Al Calavicci in the series, were too old to return to their roles, but that they will have parts in the movie. The best thing about the series was how well the formula worked: each episode has Bakula's Sam Beckett "leaping" into someone else's mind and righting a wrong before the end of the hour. How do you move that into a two hour format without having multiple plot lines and potentially jumbling the whole thing up? It's one of those TV shows that you don't...

Hamish Hamilton has been named director of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, a sign that first-time producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman may push the Oscars further into the musical performance-heavy territory that the telecast found critical and ratings traction with last time around.
The 43-year-old Brit has steered the stylish and freewheeling MTV Video Music Awards going back to 2006, and this year helmed “Neil Diamond: Hot August Night/NYC” and “Be the Change Inaugural Ball.”

Hamilton has a string of TV direction credits a mile long, including the MTV Video Music Awards (2009 & 2007), Neil Diamond: Hot August Night/NYC (2009), Be the Change Inaugural Ball (2009), Victoria's Secret Fashion Show [...]...

Cobra Starship said they were hoping for superstardom with Hot Mess,, and thanks in part to their Leighton Meester-assisted first single, "Good Girls Go Bad," they appear to be on their way. The band's second album will debut at #4 on next week's Billboard 200 albums chart on sales of more than 42,000, by far their best chart performance ever.
The good news was only partially obscured by the gigantic hat atop the head of "King of Country" George Strait, who lands yet another #1 debut for his latest, Twang, which crushed the competition to lord over the charts thanks to sales of 155,000. He has some down-home company courtesy of country upstart Justin Moore, whose self-titled debut squeaks into the top 10 at #10 on sales of 34,000.
The only other top-10 debut in an otherwise quiet week...
