With both the 2024 Presidential election and the Puerto Rican Gubernatorial election rapidly approaching, citizens of the Caribbean island once again found themselves in a delicate position and in the headlines. Donald Trump's latest rally was filled with the kind of hate we've come to expect. However, Latinos and Puerto Rico were specifically singled out this time, with comedian Tony Hinchcliffe comparing the island to a "floating pile of trash" after commenting that Latines "don't pull out." Not only did these comments alienate Puerto Ricans, but they also seem to have bolstered support for Vice President Kamala Harris among the community, as only hours later, she received late-game endorsements from Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, and current global phenomenon Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio - Aka Bad Bunny. And while the self-proclaimed "biggest star in the world" is no stranger to political action, prior to his endorsement, his efforts had been more...

Álvaro Díaz’s creative vision has felt almost prophetic the last couple of years. In 2021, he released Felicilandia, an album that twisted reggaeton into all kinds of left-leaning directions, playing with pop-punk energy, Eighties synths, and rock guitars. Then, this April, he dropped Sayonara, a continuation of Felicilandia that pushed even deeper into off-kilter, futuristic beats and styles. All along, he’s been able to find sounds that have propelled the genre forward and introduced listeners to a new alternative lane in reggaeton.
Díaz got his start as a rapper in Puerto Rico’s underground.

With his first album, Primera Musa, the newcomer — who has gotten co-signs from stars like Daddy Yankee and Bad Bunny — shows everything that’s been popping up in his mind lately: sex, girls, love, drugs, and street life.

A music genre born in the barrios of Puerto Rico permeated into the mainstream and up the charts. Its story is told through Reggaeton: The Sound that Conquered the World, a new docuseries from Peacock. Executive producer and director Omar Acosta teamed up with Daddy Yankee to spotlight the cultural touchstones, evolution, and impact of Reggaeton. Daddy Yankee’s song Gasolina became a global phenomenon 20 years ago, solidifying him as the “King of Reggaeton.” Others who helped put the Latin, hip-hop, and Caribbean-infused sound on the map are also interviewed for the docuseries. Names like Bad Bunny, Feid, Ivy Queen, J. Balvin, Karol G, Myke Towers, Nicky Jam, Rauw Alejandro, Shaggy, Vico C. and more. Here Acosta provides insight on the making of the project and why it hits close to home. Bad Bunny performs onstage during the 2023 Grammy Awards (Kevin Winter/Staff) Reggaeton is often lumped together with other genres of music.

Well, life imitates art far more than art imitates life, and it looks like Jeremy Allen White is taking that to heart—perhaps a little too literally. On Wednesday, September 25, he was seen sharing a passionate kiss with his The Bear co-star Molly Gordon in the City of Angels. Needless to say, this unexpected public display of affection has everyone buzzing. Adding even more drama to the mix, it happened to be the very same day that Rosalía, who was previously romantically linked to White, celebrated her 32nd birthday.

The news has left fans confused and diving deep into speculation mode. Could this be the nail in the coffin for White and Rosalía’s budding romance? After all, the pair was quite the hot topic when they first appeared together in 2023, turning heads and sparking countless ‘aww’ moments at various events.

Typically, the MTV Video Music Awards follow an expected rhythm. Taylor Swift sweeps, there’s an R&b throwback and tried-and-true favorites dominate. Yet that wasn’t exactly the case for the 2024 VMAs, a ceremony that celebrated newcomers Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Benson Boone as loudly as old favorites like Eminem and Katy Perry.
In some cases, the new faces actually scored louder applause than the old.
This year, TheWrap was there to witness it all. From secret stages and specialty cocktails to surprising celebrity appearances, here’s what went on behind the scenes of MTV’s iconic awards show during its 40th year.

Sasha Colby may have stole some spotlight by dubbing Chappell Roan “your favorite drag queen’s favorite artist,” but the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” winner was far from the only drag queen at the VMAs.

Michael Jackson appearing with new bride Lisa Marie Presley in 1994 to quip, “Just think — nobody thought this would last.” (It didn’t.) Eminem is set to open the 2024 MTV VMAs with the first TV show performance from his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady.
The rapper is nominated for eight VMAs this year, including video of the year, best hip-hop, song of the summer and VMAs’ most iconic performance for his 2000 medley of “Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am,” which included more than 100 look-alikes.
Currently tied with Peter Gabriel for the most VMA wins by a solo male artist in show history, Eminem could break that record with just one win this year. He also holds the record for most wins by a rap artist with 13 VMAs and is the second most nominated artist in VMAs history with 67 nods, trailing only Madonna with 71 nods.
Eminem joins a performers lineup that includes Anitta (featuring Fat Joe, DJ Khaled and Tiago Pzk), Benson Boone, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Halsey, Karol G,...

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards are approaching on September 11, and I’m curious about how a number of the categories will turn out. I recently analyzed the races for Best Pop, Best R&b, Best Alternative and Best Rock. So let’s break down a few more of the genre contests.
SEEMegan Thee Stallion hosting 2024 VMAs: She’s also a multiple nominee at the event
Best Hip-Hop
Only one video here is nominated for Video of the Year, which means it might have an edge: Eminem’s “Houdini.” The song was a smash for Eminem as well, arguably the biggest hit nominated besides Gunna’s “Fukumean.” But an advantage that Eminem has over Gunna is that he has a more active fan base, even beyond hip-hop enthusiasts. “Houdini,” for instance, was a hit on alternative radio, as well as pop and urban radio, highlighting the veteran rapper’s cross-genre appeal.

The MTV Video Music Awards are around the corner, scheduled for September 11, and while it’s fun to guess whose fan bases will come out on top and vote the most aggressively for their faves, it’s probably even more fun to talk about the professional categories, which are decided by music insiders and are often much more competitive. This year the possible winners range from pop artists to hip-hop, K-pop and Latin stars.

Taylor Swift is poised to have a huge night at the 2024 VMAs.
She leads the competition with 10 nominations and if she wins 7 of them or more, she’ll take a very important title away from Beyoncé.
With an electric lineup of performers in place, many of which are pals of Taylor, it seems very likely that she’ll show up this year.
What’s more, fans should allow room for high expectations as Taylor could also make a huge announcement at the show!
