Rauw Alejandro, Tainy, and Millennium Parade’s Daiki Tsuneta are cartoon racers in the new video for “Kizao.” On Friday, the Japanese musical collective released their trilingual, cross-cultural collaboration with Rauw and Tainy, along with its animated music video.

“I’m excited about the collaboration with Millennium Parade, Daiki, and my brother Tainy on this new project,” Rauw Alejandro said in a press release. “It’s been a fusion of our different worlds — bringing together the energy of Japan’s innovative sound and the rhythms of Puerto Rico. Nathy Peluso and Álvaro Díaz and are tired of each other’s antics — but won’t let their imperfections stop things from getting heated. On Tuesday, the Argentinian vocalist/rapper and the Puerto Rican rap star released their collaboration “Xq Eres Así,” alongside a video filmed in Mexico City.

MTV released the nominations for this year’s awards ceremony, with Taylor Swift leading the pack with seven nominations, including Best Video, Best Pop and Biggest Fans.

Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charli xcx and Sabrina Carpenter all scored five nominations each, and first-time nominees Chappell Roan and Tyla follow closely behind.

The 2024 MTV EMAs will broadcast live across the globe on Sunday, November 10 from Manchester, United Kingdom. The show will also be available in multiple international territories live on Pluto TV and on-demand on Paramount+.

19 nominees have the chance to score their first ever MTV Ema at this year’s show, including Tinashe and Jimin.

The “Biggest Fans” winners will be voted for at a later date on social via @Mtvema.

Álvaro Díaz’s creative vision has felt almost prophetic the last couple of years. In 2021, he released Felicilandia, an album that twisted reggaeton into all kinds of left-leaning directions, playing with pop-punk energy, Eighties synths, and rock guitars. Then, this April, he dropped Sayonara, a continuation of Felicilandia that pushed even deeper into off-kilter, futuristic beats and styles. All along, he’s been able to find sounds that have propelled the genre forward and introduced listeners to a new alternative lane in reggaeton.

Díaz got his start as a rapper in Puerto Rico’s underground.

Omar Courtz finds sonic inspiration wherever he goes. “A muse could be anything,” the Puerto Rican artist says from New York City, where he’s visiting the Rolling Stone offices for the first time. “I’m seeing all these different interviews and articles, and that right now is inspiring something in me.”

With his first album, Primera Musa, the newcomer — who has gotten co-signs from stars like Daddy Yankee and Bad Bunny — shows everything that’s been popping up in his mind lately: sex, girls, love, drugs, and street life.

A music genre born in the barrios of Puerto Rico permeated into the mainstream and up the charts. Its story is told through Reggaeton: The Sound that Conquered the World, a new docuseries from Peacock. Executive producer and director Omar Acosta teamed up with Daddy Yankee to spotlight the cultural touchstones, evolution, and impact of Reggaeton. FIFA and Global Citizen are teaming up to give the FIFA World Cup final game its own Super Bowl-style halftime show, the first of which will be in 2026.

The two organizations announced the news Saturday during the annual Global Citizen Festival in Central Park. Global Citizen — an advocacy organization that produces entertainment events with the goal of ending world poverty — will produce the halftime show as part of a four-year agreement. The first halftime show will be at the World Cup final game scheduled for New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026.

Typically, the MTV Video Music Awards follow an expected rhythm. Taylor Swift sweeps, there’s an R&b throwback and tried-and-true favorites dominate. Yet that wasn’t exactly the case for the 2024 VMAs, a ceremony that celebrated newcomers Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Benson Boone as loudly as old favorites like Eminem and Katy Perry.

In some cases, the new faces actually scored louder applause than the old.

Sasha Colby may have stole some spotlight by dubbing Chappell Roan “your favorite drag queen’s favorite artist,” but the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” winner was far from the only drag queen at the VMAs.

The MTV Video Music Awards celebrated their 40th birthday — and for once, MTV aimed to do right by the legacy. This year’s show was full of clips of classic VMAs moments. Madonna and Britney making out, in 2003. Beyoncé announcing her pregnancy, in 2011. Michael Jackson appearing with new bride Lisa Marie Presley in 1994 to quip, “Just think — nobody thought this would last.” (It didn’t.) Madonna in full “Like a Virgin” bridal gear, humping the stage in 1985. Taylor Swift singing on the NYC subway in 2009.

And of course, MTV playing...

There were a ton of awards handed out at the VMAs this year, but not many of them were actually presented on television.

Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan were among the big winners of the night at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday (September 11) at the Ubs Arena in Elmont, New York.

A cotton candy career of hits becomes a futuristic, post-apocalyptic dream. At Wednesday night’s VMAs, Katy Perry took the stage to deliver a medley of her greatest hits (and her new album, 143) as she celebrated receiving the coveted Video Vanguard Award.

Perry’s performance opened with a montage of her greatest videos. She kicked off her medley of hits by floating in the middle of a circle as she performed “Dark Horse.” Perry was wearing a futuristic, alien-like top as she flew over the crowd and was brought to the ground.

Katy Perry has worn a number of hats at the MTV Video Music Awards over the years, from winner to performer to presenter. Heck, she even hosted one year. But after Wednesday’s VMAs, Perry can add one more elusive title to her impressive resume: Video Vanguard.

In addition to accepting this prestigious honor — one recently presented to Shakira (2023), Nicki Minaj (2022) and Missy Elliott (2019) — Perry also took the stage to perform a medley of the hits that paved the way to this career-defining moment.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) fall on the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks Wednesday. In observance of the occasion, MTV will support the nonprofit, 9/11 Day, which organizes the National Day of Service and Remembrance as well as Tuesday’s Children, which serves the families affected by the event.

Eminem is set to open the 2024 MTV VMAs with the first TV show performance from his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady.

The rapper is nominated for eight VMAs this year, including video of the year, best hip-hop, song of the summer and VMAs’ most iconic performance for his 2000 medley of “Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am,” which included more than 100 look-alikes.

Currently tied with Peter Gabriel for the most VMA wins by a solo male artist in show history, Eminem could break that record with just one win this year. He also holds the record for most wins by a rap artist with 13 VMAs and is the second most nominated artist in VMAs history with 67 nods, trailing only Madonna with 71 nods.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards are approaching on September 11, and I’m curious about how a number of the categories will turn out. I recently analyzed the races for Best Pop, Best R&b, Best Alternative and Best Rock. So let’s break down a few more of the genre contests.

Best Hip-Hop

Only one video here is nominated for Video of the Year, which means it might have an edge: Eminem’s “Houdini.” The song was a smash for Eminem as well, arguably the biggest hit nominated besides Gunna’s “Fukumean.” But an advantage that Eminem has over Gunna is that he has a more active fan base, even beyond hip-hop enthusiasts. “Houdini,” for instance, was a hit on alternative radio, as well as pop and urban radio, highlighting the veteran rapper’s cross-genre appeal.

The MTV Video Music Awards are around the corner, scheduled for September 11, and while it’s fun to guess whose fan bases will come out on top and vote the most aggressively for their faves, it’s probably even more fun to talk about the professional categories, which are decided by music insiders and are often much more competitive. This year the possible winners range from pop artists to hip-hop, K-pop and Latin stars.

The categories are “Song of Summer” presented by Hilton, “Best Group,” “VMAs Most Iconic Performance,” and “Best Trending Video.” All voting for the social categories will be hosted on MTV’s Instagram Story.

Voting will be conducted as follows:

Fans will first vote for “Best Trending Video” beginning Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. Et via MTV’s Instagram Story. Voting concludes on Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. Et. Voting for “Best Group” will begin at the same time on Sept. 3 and end on Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. Et.
