Striving to protect and positively influence their young and impressionable children is a high priority for many parents, regardless of the troubling circumstances they find themselves in. Unfortunately, at times even their best intentions can fail and ultimately do more harm than good. That’s certainly the case with the married main characters in the horror film, ‘Clown,’ as they try to make their son happy on his birthday with a visit by the title iconic figure. But actor Andy Powers’ well-meaning character soon uncovers the frightening consequences of depending on superficial societal expectations to fulfill a sense of contentment. After Dimension Films and Anchor Bay Entertainment unveiled ‘Clown’ in select [ Read More ]

A monstrous transformation threatens to literally tear a family apart in Clown. With Dimension Films and Anchor Bay Entertainment releasing the movie on Blu-ray and DVD on August 23rd, Daily Dead spoke with Clown co-star Laura Allen about what attracted her to the role of Meg, working with Peter Stormare, one of her favorite scenes that was cut from the movie, and more.
What made you say “yes” to taking on this movie with this crazy concept?
Laura Allen: I was in New York City in the fall of 2012, I had a brand new baby in my hotel in SoHo, and I was given the script. I started reading Meg’s story in Clown, and was getting the fact that everything’s so primal. She’s pregnant and she’s terrified and she’s just interested in the survival of her family. There were steps that she made and...

Eli Roth is having a very good week. On Monday, the horror writer-director-producer officially signed on to direct the remake of the 1974 vigilante action film “Death Wish,” with Bruce Willis attached to star. Then on Tuesday, Roth landed a horror directing gig for the adaptation of the “Aleister Arcane” comic book, starring Jim Carrey in the lead role. As if that wasn’t enough, on Wednesday, the Jon Watts horror film “Clown” that Roth produced hit #1 on iTunes’s horror section. The film opened in theaters on June 17.
The story of a loving father who dresses up as a clown for his son’s birthday — only to find the suit is cursed and won’t come off — “Clown” famously started as a fake movie trailer Watts posted on YouTube that said “From master of horror Eli Roth” even though Roth had nothing to do with the project. He was so impressed with the trailer,...

Inside Out notwithstanding, it’s been awhile since cinema attempted to make clowns scary again, or at least use them as the central focus of a horror piece. Cheap make-up, big shoes, colorful hair, and a frilly suit can’t be all that scary anymore, so why bother? After a three-and-a-half-year shelf life, Clown, the Eli Roth-produced directorial debut of Jon Watts — who went on to put out Cop Car before this film’s release and is currently shooting Spider-Man: Homecoming — has arrived with the full intention of rectifying that void and answering that question.
Following in the footsteps of a Grimm fairy tale, Clown tackles the ‘ancient Nordic myth’ of an evil spirit living inside a clown costume that has one goal: devouring children, one for each month of winter. To do so, someone must first don the costume, wherein they’ll begin to transform into a demonic clown,...

It’s hard to believe that a movie like Clown even got made in the first place; the project started out as a fake trailer several years ago, which caught the attention of Eli Roth (because his name was plastered all over it), who then brought the concept to Vertebra Films in hopes of getting the project off the ground for director Jon Watts.
Now, after all this time, Clown has finally arrived in the Us via Dimension Films, and while it could have used a little more trimming (especially in the film’s second act), by and large, Watts has crafted a genuinely creepy and disturbing body horror experience unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. I had an immensely good time watching Clown, making it well worth the wait.
Clown follows Kent (Andy Powers), a real estate agent doing his best to juggle a demanding career and his responsibilities to his family.

Clown – Jon Watts’ long-silenced, Eli-Roth-produced possession flick – is despicably vile. Now, for a horror fan, this might come as a vote of confidence, and typically, you’d be right. I love a good horror movie that f#*ks me up in all the right ways, yet Jon Watts’ transformation-gone-goofy crosses a line that becomes less fun and overly morose. Everything suggests a wacky, wild metamorphosis – from a Peter Stormare bit-part to demon-infested clown suit – but this is grimy, gross-out horror with little meaning beyond kill, kill, and kill some more. It’s fun in spurts, but plays too serious for comfort most of the time – a Coulrophobic’s nightmare buried under weak, underdeveloped scripting.
Andy Powers stars as Watts’ father-turn-demon, a realtor named Kent. The day of his son Jack’s (Christian Distefano) birthday, their party clown cancels at the last minute, which Kent must remedy. As he wanders around an empty listing,...

The release of the Eli Roth produced, Jon Watts (of Cop Car fame) directed Clown is close at hand and we've got a new clip from the movie to tide us over until then.
The movie revives the evil clown story, this time introducing a father who puts on a clown suit he finds in the attic when the clown the family hired for their kid's birthday party doesn't show up. What daddy doesn't realize until its too late is that the suit is haunted (or something) and slowly he begins to turn into a monster.
This first clip features Andy Powers as the father/clown shortly after the birthday party, as he tries to remove the clown nose with some help from his loving wife. I like the sense of humour in the clip; hopefully that's present [Continued ...]...

"Lure people out of the villages into its cave with his white face and red nose..." The Weinstein Company has debuted a trailer for the horror film Clown, which is directed by Jon Watts, the filmmaker now set to direct the next Spider-Man movie. It's actually based on a fake trailer that Watts originally made in 2012 that included fake credits for producer Eli Roth. Roth actually saw the trailer, got involved, and helped them make a feature version and this is the final product. The concept is about a clown suit that a father finds that when he puts it on turns him into an evil child-eating clown, which reminds me a bit of Santa Clause or The Mask (though this is much, much more sinister). The cast includes Andy Powers, Laura Allen, Peter Stormare, Christian Distefano, Chuck Shamata, and Elizabeth Whitmere. See both trailers below. Here's the official release...

Good news, coulrophobes (i.e. all of us!). With the It remake currently stuck in development limbo, you've been spared a new iteration of Pennywise the Clown for the time being. Bad news, coulrophobes! After sitting on the shelf for a number of years, the Eli Roth-produced, Jon Watts-directed Clown (based on a fake trailer that went viral in 2010) has been slated for limited theatrical release on June 17 by Dimension Films, according to Deadline. The movie follows a father (Andy Powers) who dresses up as a clown for his son's sixth birthday party -- first mistake! -- before coming to the horrifying realization that the costume and makeup won't come off, and that his personality is beginning to change...in a very, very bad direction. Clown is one of the rare films to be inspired by a fake trailer (Machetes 1 & 2 and Hobo with a Shotgun share that distinction...

When the clown he hired for his son’s birthday party flakes out on him, a desperate dad and real estate agent dresses up in the clown costume he finds in the basement of one of his properties. There’s been a lot of hype surrounding Clown, no doubt because purveyor of gore and grue, Eli Roth (Hostel), has his name attached to the film. So forgive me if I came away from the movie feeling a little under-whelmed. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed what I saw but I couldn’t help but feel it needed something more… After all, when you break the story down, it’s not much more than a Tales From the Crypt/Tales From the Darkside-style morality play; and those two TV shows told their stories in less than thirty minutes.

A couple years ago a creepy trailer was released for a fake film called Clown. It was turned into a feature film produced by Eli Roth and directed by Jon Watts. We now have an official nightmarish trailer for the film that has been completed.
The story follows a father (Andy Powers) who puts on a clown suit for his son’s birthday. Of course, the suit is cursed, he can’t get out of it, and it starts to turn him into a real clown monster. This movie actually looks pretty awesome for a horror film, and I want to see it!
The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year and has yet to find distribution. Thanks to The Film Stage for the trailer!

The Film Stage just checked in with the trailer for the Eli Roth-produced flick Clown starring Peter Stormare (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, Fargo) and Laura Allen (From Within, The Collective). Check it out if you dare!
Roth became attached to the project after seeing Jon Watts’ awesome faux trailer of the same name. Christian Distefano, Elizabeth Whitmere, Matthew Stefiuk, and Andy Powers co-star.
Watts is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Christopher D. Ford.
Synopsis:
A loving father dons a clown outfit, wig, bulbous nose, and pancake makeup to entertain at his son, Jack’s (Distefano), sixth birthday after the clown-for-hire is a no-show. Unable to take off the clown garb, dad’s personality changes in horrific fashion. He and his family race to break the curse of the evil outfit before he undergoes a complete transformation into a homicidal killer with over-sized shoes.

Back in October 2010, a mock trailer for Clown was released by Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford that featured Eli Roth’s name, even though he was unaware of the trailer’s creation. Eventually, this got the attention of Roth, who came on board as a producer to give these guys the opportunity to make a full feature out of their concept.
Although we reported that the movie was filming last year, we haven’t heard much since. However, it looks like the movie is finally ready to show off, as the first official trailer has just been released.
This trailer is originally from The Film Stage, who had the following details:
“Directed by Jon Watts, the film stars Andy Powers as a father who puts on a clown costume for his son’s birthday, but a curse means he can’t take it off and, well, things go downhill from there.

I first wrote about a fake trailer for a fake film called Clown back in 2010. Shortly thereafter it was announced Eli Roth would produce an actual film version of the story of a father that dresses up as a clown for his son's birthday only he's unable to take the outfit off, eventually turning into a monster. In 2011, I wrote up a preview of the year's films and included Clown on it. It didn't come out. Since then I'd more-or-less forgotten about it until August 2013 when it received its MPAA rating. Today the first trailer for the film has finally arrived and based on the timing it would seem a SXSW Film Festival premiere may be in order with a late 2014 release date expected after that should it manage to impress audiences. Otherwise, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dimension shuttle this one off as a direct to video and On Demand release.

While we're still waiting for Eli Roth to turn his Grindhouse trailer for the bloody horror Thanksgiving into a feature length film, another project with the same writers is coming sooner. Robot & Frank writer Chirs Ford and Jon Watts teamed with Roth to turn the fake horror trailer Clown into a feature length film. Watts is directing the film starring Andy Powers as a loving father who finds a clown suit for his son's birthday party, only to realize the suit is part of an evil curse that turns its wearer into a killer. Now the first trailer for the twisted film is here, ensuring that anyone who isn't already scared of clowns will be soon. Here's the first trailer for Jon Watts' Clown from The Film Stage: Clown is produced by horror mastermind Eli Roth and directed by Jon Watts, from a script he co-wrote with Chris Ford.

I haven't seen an effective killer clown movie since the 1990 TV miniseries based on Stephen King's It and now it looks like we'll finally get a worthy killer clown follow-up.
In 2010, a group of talented artists put together a pretty great looking trailer for a fake movie directed by the very real Eli Roth titled Clown. Somewhere along the line Roth saw the trailer, was impressed by it and approached the filmmakers to make the movie for real with Roth as producer. Fast forward to 2014 and here we have it, the real trailer for director Jon Watts' Clown.

The film is based on a fake trailer by Jon Watts that appeared online in October 2010 where it depicted Eli Roths name as if he were involved with the project when in fact at the time hed never heard of it or its filmmakers. This eventually garnered the attention of Roth whom liked what he saw and surprisingly agreed to fund a full length feature. Eli Roth is quoted saying this about the film Its new territory to make this a version of The Fly where this guy can feel himself changing blacking out only to find blood all over his clown suit. Youre sympathetic toward a monster until the monster actually takes over. Clown is directed by Jon Watts and is written by Watts and Christopher D. Ford. The film stars Andy Powers...

Eli Roth may be busy directing The Green Inferno, but that doesn’t mean he’s too busy to continue his role as horror-producer extraordinaire. The project he’s currently working on is Jon Watts’ Clown, which Empire reports has found two new cast members in Peter Stormare and Laura Allen.
Watts co-wrote the script with CD Ford and will also be directing, check out a synopsis below.

Even as he returns to full directing duties for his latest chiller, The Green Inferno, Eli Roth isn’t neglecting his other passion: rodeo clowning. Sorry, that’s not quite true. We meant producing other people’s projects. But a clown is involved, as Peter Stomare and Laura Allen have joined the horror pic Clown.Director Jon Watts, who co-wrote the script with CD Ford, is busy directing the film. It follows a father (Andy Powers) who hits a problem when the entertainer he hired for his son’s birthday cancels.Donning a clown outfit himself, he suddenly finds that he can’t take it off – and that there’s a terrible curse attached to it. You know, besides the obvious downside that clowns are freaky and terrifying.Allen will be playing the man’s wife, while Stomare is on as an expert in clown lore, because apparently such weirdoes really exist.

The Eli Roth-produced film Clown has started production in Ottowa, Canada. We first told you about Clown a couple months ago, when Dimension picked up the film for distribution at Tiff, along with Aftershock, an earthquake thriller.
Clown is based on a fan-made trailer written by Jon Watts and C.D. Ford, about a father who puts on a clown suit to save his son's birthday party when the hired clown doesn't show. It soon becomes apparent that the clown suit comes with a curse - one even worse than just being a clown. Watts will direct the feature, which has cast Andy Powers (Oz, The Taken) as the doomed dad; Laura Allen (The 4400, From Within) as his wife, and Peter Stormare (Fargo, The Big Lebowski, 2001 Maniacs) as a clown expert (I had no idea there was such a thing.)
Check out the original short below.
