The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard was a big success, not just for Paramount+, but for the fans as well, who were delighted to see The Next Generation crew together one more time. While it may have felt like Patrick Stewart’s farewell to the franchise, the actor is still hungry for more, and he revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that a script for a Star Trek: Picard movie is being written.
“I heard only last night about a script that is being written, but written specifically with the actor, Patrick [Stewart], to play in it,” Stewart said. “And I’ve been told to expect to receive it within a week or so. I’m so excited because it sounds like the kind of project where the experimentation that I want to do will be essential for this kind of material.” When asked if the movie...

One of the central locations of the 2017 TV series "Star Trek: Picard" was the winery of the title character. The retired Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), after a long career in Starfleet and a bitter extraction from the organization, moved into his ancestral family home and turned to wine-making as a hobby. In a fun marketing tie-in, Trekkies can buy bottles of Chateau Picard for themselves. Picard's home is, as fans of the character may have intuited, a low-tech locale, replete with old-fashioned paper books, wooden beams, breakfast nooks, and a lot of natural light. Picard, after all, was frequently seen thumbing through paper tomes, listening to centuries-old music, and drinking Earl Grey tea, a drink not invented until the 1830s. Throughout "Star Trek," Picard mentioned his ancestors, noting that Picards fought at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The man, however much he may dislike the fact, has a legacy. He did,...

If one were to broadly characterize each "Star Trek" show into a small handful of themes, one might say that the original "Star Trek" from 1966 is about bravery and balance. The characters are presented as bold — if not clumsy — frontiersman, frequently relying on their instincts and their brash confidence to escape difficult situations. Captain Kirk (William Shatner) often employs clever military tactics to outwit enemies. At the same time, he relies on the advice from his cold, emotionless first officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy) just as much as he relies on the passionate, angered responses of his very human medical officer Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley).
In contrast, "Star Trek: The Next Generation" is about the power of intellect, the importance of management skills, and the eternal solution of diplomacy. Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) often asks for input from his entire senior staff, stands somewhat aloof, and celebrates ancient literature. Only occasionally...

Patrick Stewart Still Carries Regrets About His Relationship With Star Trek Creator Gene Roddenberry
Throughout his autobiography "Making It So: A Memoir," Patrick Stewart repeatedly emphasizes how Gene Roddenberry, the creator of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," didn't really think too much of him. Stewart relates, in detail, the extended process he went through to audition for the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard on "Next Generation," and how Roddenberry routinely ignored him and remained non-communicative. One of Stewart's first meetings with Roddenberry was at Gene's house in Brentwood, California, and the actor recalled getting the cold shoulder. The Paramount staff and casting directors all liked Stewart, but Roddenberry was unimpressed. In William Shatner's informative, hour-long 2014 documentary "Chaos on the Bridge!," Roddenberry was said to have once proclaimed, early in the "Next Generation" casting process, that he never wanted to hear Patrick Stewart's name again.
Ultimately, Paramount and Stewart got what they wanted, and the actor would ultimately play Jean-Luc Picard for seven seasons of "Next Generation,...

During a recent Gold Derby video interview, senior editor Daniel Montgomery and contributor Tony Ruiz spoke in-depth with Patrick Stewart (“Star Trek: Picard”) about his Paramount Plus sci-fi drama, which is eligible at the 2023 Emmys. Watch the full video above and read the complete interview transcript below.
While the final season finds Stewart’s iconic character, Jean-Luc Picard, in the comfort of working with his old crew, the admiral is far from comfortable. He deals with the sudden discovery that he has a grown son (Ed Speleers) with Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) that he must protect from Vadic (Amanda Plummer), a vengeance-seeking Changeling hell bent on capturing Picard’s son.
“It was in every sense, an extraordinary experience,” Stewart revealed about his three-season return to the world of “Star Trek.” The legendary actor later added, “And although I had serious doubts to begin with, at the end, I regretted nothing.

It seems like Jean-Luc Picard never learns. At the end of the Star Trek: The Next Generation finale “All Good Things…”, the Captain finally joins his senior officers of the USS Enterprise for a game of cards. “I should have done this a long time ago,” he admits with some resignation.
But when the Captain returned to screens for Star Trek: Picard, after a twenty-year absence following the dismal final Tng movie Star Trek: Nemesis, he didn’t bring his old crew with him. Sure, Data, Riker, and Troi dropped by for an episode or two, but Picard spent most of his time with a new renegade gang. It wasn’t until Picard hit its third and final season that the Captain was rejoined by his most famous crew.

This story about “Picard” originally appeared in the Race Begins issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
In 1994, after its seventh and final season, “Star Trek: The Next Generation” was nominated for its lone Best Drama Series Emmy. Patrick Stewart, who anchored the show as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, remembers the nomination well. It was the same year he got a SAG Award nomination.
“Those two were the only two (above-the-line) nominations that we got,” Stewart said. “Next Generation” was nominated for several Creative Arts Emmys—for crafts like makeup, cinematography, sound mixing and more—but was otherwise consistently overlooked. “The fact that Brent Spiner was never acknowledged in that way for his extraordinary work playing an android for seven seasons. And Jonathan (Frakes) and LeVar (Burton) and Marina (Sirtis). We got used to it. We knew there was going to be no acknowledgment…until the very last season.” Which is exactly what happened.

One of the central plot conceits of the third season of "Star Trek: Picard" was that Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) had finally had a love affair after seven seasons of toying with the idea on "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Their fling, it turns out, wasn't what either of them wanted, and after a night of wild passion, their relationship fell apart for good. Naturally, the pair begat a child that Dr. Crusher never told Jean-Luc about, making their reunion twenty-some years later a little awkward. To the credit of showrunner Terry Matalas, the two characters do not immediately feel warm and nostalgic when they meet; there is still a great deal of bitterness lingering.
The third season of "Picard" lasted a scant ten episodes, leaving little time to develop Picard and Beverly's relationship. By the end of the series, they seemed to have cleared the air,...

This post contains spoilers for the series finale of "Star Trek: Picard."
"Star Trek: Picard" concluded its third and final season on April 20, 2023. The show ended with most of the main cast of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" — reunited after decades — on board a reconstructed Enterprise-d rescuing Earth from an insidious Borg attack. The plot was so-so, but the nostalgia was expertly weaponized. The makers of "Picard" even went so far as to immaculately recreate the original Enterprise-d set as it looked in 1987, and many Trekkies were deeply moved by seeing Patrick Stewart back in his old captain's chair next to Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, LeVar Burton, and Brent Spiner. It might be the most prominent "back in the saddle" moment in "Star Trek."
This was a very odd way to close out the show, however, when one considers that Stewart once expressly forbade those things...

The primary function of the third season of "Star Trek: Picard" was to activate the nostalgia glands of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" fans. Showrunner Terry Matalas constructed a story that was centered very specifically on uniting Patrick Stewart with Jonathan Frakes, Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, and Gates McFadden. Additionally, the series created a plot conceit that allowed for the reconstruction of the Enterprise-d, the "Next Generation" ship that was destroyed in "Star Trek: Generations" in 1994. In the show's penultimate episode, the entire cast strode on board an impeccably recreated Enterprise-d bridge set and took the same stations they once occupied decades previously. Was it a contrived, corny moment? Yes. Did it stab many Trekkies directly in the wistfulness part of their brains? Also yes.
The cast also appreciated the reunion, as they hadn't all been gathered since the production of "Star Trek: Nemesis" in 2002. Several...

Because the characters in "Star Trek" tend to mark the passage of time by Stardates, it takes some delving by resourceful Trekkies to find when the various "Trek" shows take place on the Gregorian calendar. "Star Trek: The Next Generation," said Trekkies have found, began in the year 2364 and lasted until 2370. "Star Trek: Generations" took place in '71, "First Contact" in '73, "Insurrection" in '75, and "Nemesis" in '79. After a well-documented 15 years with the "Next Generation" cast, it seemed that they would move on with their lives and audiences would no longer be privy to their adventures.
Of course, that all changed in 2017 with the launch of CBS All Access, later renamed Paramount+, and the sudden abundance of "Star Trek" the new streaming platform wanted to provide. Many new "Star Trek" shows were put into production, including "Star Trek: Picard," a series about the off-duty shenanigans experienced by the...

In the span between "Star Trek: Nemesis" in 2002 and the most recent season of "Star Trek: Picard," several dramatic events took place. It seems that Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) finally took a chance on their will-they-won't-they flirtation that was never fully explored during their seven seasons together on "Star Trek: The Next Generation." About 20 years before the events of "Picard," the couple took a chance and had a single night of wild passion. Immediately afterward, however, they both decided that it had always been a bad idea. A love affair, a marriage, or any kind of relationship likely wouldn't work. Perhaps predictably, the night of passion begat a child.
Jean-Luc, however, had such a busy and dangerous job — captaining a starship constantly puts one's life at risk and takes up every waking hour — that Dr. Crusher chose to never tell him about their child.

To be sure, Star Trek: Picard season three pulled off something of a magic trick, bringing back not only the main cast of The Next Generation but also featuring surprising cameos. But by the time the credits rolled on the final episode, there was one main character conspicuously missing from the original lineup of Tng characters: Wesley Crusher.
Wesley’s absence from Picard season three seemed particularly glaring given the overall plot of those final 10 episodes, in which Picard and company go on a spacefaring trip to rescue Beverly Crusher and her son Jack. It’s a mission somewhat familiar to the once and future crew of the Enterprise-d, as they did the same a few times for Beverly’s firstborn, Wesley.

“Star Trek: Picard” wrapped on Thursday with a touching scene between Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and their son Jack (Ed Speleers).
Warning: This post contains spoilers from the series finale of “Star Trek: Picard” titled “The Last Generation.” Proceed with caution.
A year after saving the Federation from the Borg (again), Beverly and Jean-Luc are in a shuttle accompanying Jack on his first Starfleet field posting (think of it as two proud parents dropping their son off at college).
It’s a touching family moment that is heightened when Picard realizes Jack has been posted to the newly christened U.S.S. Enterprise-g.

To describe Beverly and Jean-Luc’s relationship as complicated is an understatement. Beverly’s first husband, whom Jack is named after, was Jean-Luc’s best friend. Jack was killed on a mission while under Jean-Luc’s command.

Prior to Season 3 of “Star Trek: Picard,” very little was known about what happened to Dr. Beverly Crusher after she left the U.S.S. Enterprise.
While previous seasons of “Picard” provided updates on Data, Will Riker and Deanna Troi, it had been over 20+ years since anyone — characters or viewers alike — had seen Crusher.
The third season of “Picard” filled in that two-decade gap: Beverly had a son, Jack Crusher. She chose not to tell his father, Jean-Luc Picard, out of fear Picard’s enemies would come after him. Eventually, they did, and Beverly was mortally injured, not before disintegrating a few aliens with a phaser rifle and sending out a distress call in the season opener.

"Star Trek: Picard" has officially come to an end, closing out with a warm and wonderful scene of Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Michael Dorn, Marin Sirtis, Gates McFadden, LeVar Burton, and Brent Spiner hanging out in a bar, playing poker, and shooting the breeze. Star Trek: Picard signed off after three seasons by giving Jean-Luc and his Next Generation pals the final mission they’ve always deserved… but maybe this story’s not over just yet.
Thursday’s series finale picks up where we left off, with Jean-Luc and company aboard a refurbished Enterprise-d and headed to Earth to stop the Borg’s impending attack. We learn from Federation President Anton Chekhov (that name sounds familiar…) that the Borg have assimilated all of Starfleet’s young cadets and taken over its fleet, and they’re about to destroy the only defense system protecting Earth.

What started in 1987 has ended. Instead of its original tepid exit in 2002 film Nemesis, the saga of The Next Generation has gone out with a bang in the epic and warm-hearted series finale of Picard. While this series began in 2020 as a somewhat risky Star Trek spinoff, the third season has emerged as a kind of soft reboot, bringing back the tone, aesthetic, and countless elements from ‘90s Star Trek. Season 3 has also emerged as a bona fide hit — becoming the first Star Trek Paramount+ series to break into the Nielsen top 10 of most popular streaming shows — as well as receiving a ton of critical acclaim, even more so than Strange New Worlds last year. Clearly, showrunner Terry Matalas did something right.

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Episode 10
All good things must come to an end. Even the things we might wish wouldn’t. Such is the case with Star Trek: Picard, a series that, to put it mildly, struggled to find a coherent identity and purpose during its first two seasons, but which blossomed in its third and did so by finally embracing the very legacy it at first tried so hard to run away from. I’m as surprised as anyone to find myself wishing this story could last just a little bit longer, that we could somehow spend a little bit more time with these people, that we didn’t have to say goodbye to this piece of Star Trek: The Next Generation, grown older alongside us in rich and fascinating ways.

"Star Trek: Picard" swung for the fences with its third season by bringing back the original crew from "Star Trek: The Next Generation," including Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Worf (Michael Dorn), and even Data (Brent Spiner). It was a play on nostalgia that at the very least gave a lot of "Next Generation" fans the opportunity to give their favorite characters a proper goodbye, as opposed to whatever that was in "Star Trek: Nemesis." Before they signed on, however, the stars probably had plenty of reservations about resurrecting these roles after so many years. Some, like Frakes, have been active in the contemporary "Star Trek" canon, directing episodes of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" and "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," but others had to decide whether they really wanted to step back into their Starfleet uniforms.
