After the sudden death of his wife Sara, Richard, a grieving and emotionally ill-equipped father, is left on his own to care for his severely, non-verbal autistic daughter Emmie. Before her death Sara had arranged for Emmy to partake in an experimental therapy and rented a house near the facility where the treatments would take place. Little does Richard know the house has a haunted history. While Richard struggles with his wife’s death he soon realizes he has no patience, skills, or even any empathy to deal with Emmie’s condition and begins to find solace in drinking and drugs. As the spirits in the house grow restless, so does the noise in Emmie’s head, awakening her psychic abilities along with Richard’s personal demons.

Trouble Is My Business with Brittney Powell. Co-written by actor/voice actor Tom Konkle, who also directed, and Xena: Warrior Princess actress Brittney Powell, Trouble Is My Business is a humorous homage to film noirs of the 1940s and 1950s, among them John Huston's The Maltese Falcon and Orson Welles' Touch of Evil. Konkle stars in the sort of role that back in the '40s and '50s belonged to the likes of Humphrey Bogart, Robert Mitchum, Dick Powell, and Alan Ladd. As the femme fatale, Brittney Powell is supposed to evoke memories of Jane Greer, Lizabeth Scott, Lauren Bacall, and Claire Trevor. 'Trouble Is My Business': Humorous film noir homage evokes memories of 'The Maltese Falcon' & 'Touch of Evil' A crunchy, witty, and often just plain funny mash-up of classic noir tropes, from hard-boiled private dicks to the easy-on-the-eyes femme fatales – in addition to dialogue worthy of Dashiell Hammett and, occasionally...

Vork was bound to get his own show. Well, by that I mean the web needed more of the cerebral deadpan comedy of The Guild star Jeff Lewis. Thankfully, Lewis had made a few friends who know a thing or two about shooting web series after four seasons on one of the most popular scripted comedies online. Teaming up with Guild director Sean Becker, Lewis birthed a series of sharp five-minute sketches that would feature a number of his comedy pals like Felicia Day, Alex Albrecht, Tom Konkle, Vince Caso, Robin Thorsen and Jamie Kaler. The Jeff Lewis 5-minute Comedy Hour debuted back in October of last year with Guild-cast-heavy “Tag” kicking off the season. To date, it’s still the most popular in terms of views, netting just under 80,000 so far on YouTube. Throughout the season, 5-minute would push the comedy lines into mature corners, often slapping an Nsfw...

One of the latest entries into the lovable loser genre of web series, The Unemployment of Danny London centers on Danny London (Danny Lippin), a middle man in every sense, who inexplicably finds himself out of work when his boss and friend fires him from the public relations job that has been his life and identity for the past eleven years. Left with no other option, Danny must rebuild his life while facing obstacles from unlikely places. The first four episodes of Danny London are currently available online and the producers plan to release new episodes every two weeks for six weeks resulting in a 12-episode first season. The premiere features cameos by Tom Konkle (SafetyGeeks Svi) and the lovely and talented host of The WebFiles Kristyn Burtt. While the first episode starts a little slow and could benefit from a tighter edit, but it certainly does have it's moments.

This might be the closest thing to a spin-off of the long running and inarguably popular comedy web series The Guild. Aside from stars Felicia Day and Sandeep Parikh, we haven't seen too much of the rest of the cast popping up in other web series, so this one caught our eye. The Guild director Sean Becker has teamed up with comedian Jeff Lewis (aka Vork on The Guild) for a new web series, The Jeff Lewis 5-Minute Comedy Hour. Lewis stars along with a number of guest stars in distinct comedy sketch for each episode, with only Lewis being the common thread. Guest stars in the 10-episode first season: Felicia Day (The Guild) Vince Caso (The Guild) Tara Caso (The Guild) Brett Sheridan (The Guild) Jamie Kaler (My Boys) Kyle Bornheimer (Worst Week) Tom Konkle (Safety Geeks Svi) Kim Evey (Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show) Related News:Felicia Day...

Last week, Dave Beeler and Tom Konkle, the creators and stars of Safety Geeks: Svi debuted the new and improved 3D version of the series' first season. For those unfamiliar with Safety Geeks, it's an award winning and Streamy nominated web series, which follows the exploits of a team of crack "safety" experts who protect the world, and parts of Canada, from safety-related accidents. Sometimes billed as a live-action cartoon, the series embraces the absurd with zany antics and colorful characters. The new 3D version expands upon the cartoonish nature of the series while enhancing the viewers experience through the use of cutting edge technology. Unlike the outdated anaglyph method, the old red and cyan blurry image, Svi utilizes the same stereoscopic polarized layer method familiar to modern moviegoers. A Little Bit About 3D Formats Currently, there are two competing formats for delivering state of the art, 3D home entertainment.

Los Angeles may be considered the film capital of the world, but what is “film” these days anyway? A new L.A-based festival has just popped up that addresses and celebrates all of the unique forms that visual storytelling can take in our new media world.
The inaugural New Media Film Festival will run the course of one weekend, June 11-13, at the Downtown Independent theater and show a mix of Internet-based short films, “webisodes,” documentaries that deal with the way media influences and is influenced by real world affairs and feature films in which new media figures as a major story element.
While the festival is strictly concerned with new media, I do want to note that there is a slight “underground” connection. While the fest was founded by Susan Johnston, the event’s Artistic Director is David Kleiler, who founded the Boston Underground Film Festival way back in 1998. Plus,...

During last night's Oscar telecast, trailers for a branded reality-based web series following Rocco Dispirito, Marisa Tomei, and Dan Cortese as they travel through Italy exploring the unique passions of Italian cuisine were nestled between the iPad and Coca-Cola adverts (one of which featured Safety Geeks: Svi's Tom Konkle). In addition to Dr. Horrible himself opening the show and the Lxd teaming up with Debbie Allen for the Best Score performance piece, the web space was fairly well represented. Sponsored by Italian food product company Bertolli and made specifically to help promote their new line of Italian frozen dinners, Into the Heart of Italy marks the company's largest marketing investment ever according to an interview with Gaston Vaneri, a marketing director who oversees Unilever’s U.S. frozen foods business (Unilever owns Bertolli). Being described as "Amazing Race meets Top Chef", the show seeks to promote its product by...

Hosted by Safety Geeks Svi creators Dave Beeler and Tom Konkle the night will feature episodes of their VFX-laden romp series along with fellow comedies Gold, Space Hospital and Life with Kat & McKay. We knew we hadn't seen the last of the engine room on the Us Azureas when things left in a black hole cliffhanger this past spring. Sci-fi comedy web series The Crew is coming back for a second season next week after singing an exclusive deal with online video site Babelgum. For creator Brett Register, who had been using the hiatus from the show to roll out a number of short experimental web series like Craig and the Werewolf, he said he is excited to be able to pay his talent and crew this time around. "We were indeed able to pay everyone who worked on the show this season, which was amazing as the tagline when producing season one was, 'don't worry about money, we'll all get paid in season two,'" quipped Register. "Who knew that'd turn out to be true!" While it's not exactly TV-level money going around,...

Safety Geeks:svi, the effects-laden green screen comedy web series put out by Pith-e Productions, tracks an “elite” squad of accident investigators and safety professionals who usually cause more trouble than they’re worth. When we covered the launch of the series a couple of months ago, we highlighted it's main boast: a record-setting number of visual effects. So far, four out of a planned 12 episodes of Safety Geeks have been released. So how does the show hold up? The offbeat characters in Safety Geeks do an ample job of pulling out a few chuckles. There certainly is nothing safe about this team of screw-ups. One thing’s for sure: whether landing a plane in a parking lot or simply opening a door, destruction won’t be far behind. First up is Reginald Syngen-Smithe (David Beeler), a British billionaire with a nack for unintentionally hurting people. In fact, that can be...

A fake British accent can be sooooooo annoying. Like when it’s coming from Tyra Banks. Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong used to sing in fake British accent, too, and people hated it, but I dug it. Some things just sound better in British. Punk music is one, and stuffy, silly comedy is another. Dave Beeler and Tom Konkle are an American comedy duo who perform the majority of their material in a Queen’s English that could fool Henry Higgins. Their work in undeniably Pythonesque, and both have, in fact worked with the Pythons themselves. Tom has even written material for John Cleese. How’s that for comic credibility? The team’s website boasts an impressive array of of video content, including the web series Invention with Brian Forbes, a simple talk show parody in which a long-suffering presenter hosts the same dubiously qualified guest every episode. Invention with Brian Forbes, the new web series from comedy team David Beeler and Tom Konkle (Dave & Tom), has been picked up for a distribution deal with KoldCast TV, adding to the growing number of original series released through the Irvine-based broadband TV network. Konkle and Beeler make up the two-man creative team at Pith-e Productions, which is also shopping Is It Safe?, another high brow original series that has been picking up attention as a clever spoof of the CSI-type procedurals.
