Frank Darabont's 1999 Oscar darling "The Green Mile," based on an inexplicably serialized novel by Stephen King, is set in 1935 Louisiana in the fictional Cold Mountain Penitentiary, specifically the prison's death row. The correctional officers are overseen by Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) who struggles to retain his soul working such a dire job. The floor that leads to the prison's electric chair is painted green, earning it the titular nickname. Paul attempts to wrangle his officers' cruelty and retain what little hope he can, even after witnessing the state execute prisoner after prisoner. To make matters worse, he's suffering from a bladder infection.
The wildest prisoner on death row is William "Wild Bill" Wharton, played by the always amazing Sam Rockwell. Wharton was clearly mentally ill, and would frequently assault the officers, forcing him into a padded cell. He spat insults and racial epithets, flashing his yellowed teeth and horribly casual hate.

The ghost with the most is back, baby, ready to wreak havoc on the Deetz family more than three decades after he first haunted their home. In Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," Michael Keaton's Beetlejuice returns to the big screen along with Catherine O'Hara's Delia Deetz and Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz. They will be joined by "Wednesday" star Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Lydia's daughter, bringing three generations of gorgeous goth Deetz women to do battle against the supernatural huckster Beetlejuice. We've already seen a short teaser trailer for the film, which briefly shows the Deetz women at a funeral (possibly for the family patriarch, Charles, played by Jeffrey Jones, who fell out the limelight after a shocking arrest). There doesn't seem to be any sign of the Maitlands, the ghosts who haunted the attic in the original "Beetlejuice," but we'll just have to wait and see what...

Somebody in Sin City must’ve whispered his name three times because Beetlejuice manifested on the Colosseum stage at Caesars Palace Tuesday afternoon.
During Warner Bros. Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation, Tim Burton and the stars of his upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice turned up to rousing applause from the capacity crowd gathered for the annual National Association of Theater Owners convention. Burton walked out first and said getting his Beetlejuice family together again was like “a big weird family reunion.”
As such, he was quickly joined by the film’s Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci. (Upon walking on stage, Keaton joked, “I wasn’t alerted to the dress code” as everyone on his film was dressed in shades of black.) Michael Keaton, Beetlejuice himself, showed up at Warner Bros’ CinemaCon presentation for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Keaton, who already has seen the movie twice, said: “Truthfully, I don’t think it’s a secret anymore, but [Tim Burton] and I over the years kicked the notion around. Three or five years passed, we’d say, ‘What do you think?’ Finally we got it right. But also the script — it’s very difficult thing to write. Frankly, I followed his lead. I’ll tell you this, though, it’s really f*cking good. In fact, it’s great.”
Burton on why he made the movie: “I started thinking about it in the sense [that] I identified with the Lydia character being the weird teenage character. [I thought,] ‘What happened with the Deetz family?’ It’s three generations of Deetz women. I used the experience of as you get older. I just got really interested in that.

Say his name three times. Do it. Unlike Candyman, most people would love to summon Beetlejuice. He’s the Ghost With The Most. The film Beetlejuice became an instant classic when it haunted theater screens in the spring of 1988. Burton’s visual aesthetic, along with the amazing performances by Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, captivated audiences. The film easily grossed over $75 Million at the box office on a $15 Million budget. People loved the character, and he even got a Saturday morning cartoon spin-off that kids loved, but it’s taken thirty-five years for them to get Beetlejuice 2 off the ground!
While, after many false starts, the Beetlejuice sequel has just about finished shooting, believe it or not, work on Beetlejuice 2 began not long after the original movie premiered! We did a whole video that dived into the production history that you can watch here, but here’s the...

Michael Keaton is back as the titular Ghost with the Most in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, director Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel to his 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here). Winona Ryder is reprising the role of Lydia Deetz. Catherine O’Hara is back as Lydia’s stepmother Delia. But now The Hollywood Reporter has been able to confirm that Jeffrey Jones, who played Lydia’s father Charles in the original movie, is not in the sequel. Few fans expected him to be, as Jones hasn’t gotten a lot of screen acting jobs since 2003, when he pled no contest to “hiring a 14-year-old boy to pose naked for photos, for which he was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to register as a sex offender.” He has been in a few movies since then, but his most substantial job was on the TV series Deadwood. He appeared on 35 episodes of that show...

The ghost with the most is back in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Here’s the first trailer for the Tim Burton-directed sequel, starring Michael Keaton.
It’s been over 30 years, but finally Michael Keaton is back where he belongs – in a pinstriped suit in the middle of a Tim Burton film. The 1988 original Beetlejuice, which also starred Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin, quickly grew into a cult favourite, full of Burton’s trademark dark humour and memorable scenes like the dinner party guests being made to dance to Harry Belafonte’s Day-O (The Banana Boat Song).
Of course, had things turned out differently, we could have had a very different sequel in the 1990s, which had the working title Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. For a variety of reasons, that film never made it to production – we wrote about it in detail here.
The official synopsis for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, meanwhile, reads as follows:

Two-time Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek) reprises her role as Delia Deetz, alongside Beetlejuice newcomers Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, and Justin Theroux (Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi) as Rory. Altogether now: Daaaaaayo! Yes, with a version of the opening call of Harry Belafonte's 'Banana Boat Song,' the first teaser for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice announces its intention to A) continue the story of the 1988 film and B) unleash fresh chaos from Michael Keaton's Ghost with the Most. Take a look:
Burton, of course, is back to direct once more, with the likes of Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara reprising their roles alongside Keaton, and new recruits including Wednesday's Jenna Ortega (that show's Alfred Gough and Miles Millar wrote the script).
It has been a long old road back to screens for Keaton's classic character (the second to return in as many years following a certain Caped Crusader), and after decades in development, this has a lot to live up to. Or a lot to die down to? It is Beetlejuice, after all.

"I myself am strange and unusual," Winona Ryder's goth teen Lydia Deetz proclaims in "Beetlejuice," although she could've just as easily been talking about the movie around her. Tim Burton's supernatural comedy was lightning in a bottle when it landed in 1988, a zealously idiosyncratic (and horny!) affair and a welcome remedy to the decade's consumerist mentality. Now, 36 years later (*wipes brow*), a "Beetlejuice" sequel is finally making its way to the big screen at a time when franchises and IPs may be loosening their grip just a little on the media landscape. The question is, will "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" -- as the film is now officially titled -- be part of the problem or will it mark the start of a long, long-awaited creative renaissance for Burton the director?
If you're looking for reasons to be skeptical about "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," one need only point to Burton's filmography since "Big Fish...

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was in development hell for decades before it finally got made. In 1990, Jonathan Gems was hired to write a sequel that was going to be titled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Burton considered having Daniel Waters rewrite that script, Pamela Norris did rewrite it, and Warner Bros. offered Kevin Smith the chance to do another rewrite. He turned it down. Burton considered having Daniel Waters rewrite that script, Pamela Norris did rewrite it, and Warner Bros. offered Kevin Smith the chance to do another rewrite. He turned it down. You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts! Michael Keaton is revealing a little bit more about his quasi-return as Batman at the 96th Academy Awards, saying he could kick some Gotham butt if he’s forced to. He can also still rock an ascot, which he said he wore to “Bruce Wayne it up a little bit”, something many fans were keen to notice.
While we will never actually see Michael Keaton’s Batman square off against Danny DeVito’s Penguin again or Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze even once (that job went to George Clooney), he does think he would come out on top. “Danny is the one I’d worry about ’cause he’s sneaky. He’d creep up behind you, and he has the height advantage because he’s so [small]. You don’t know where he is. He’s always sneaking around.” Even still, Keaton did...

For over 30 years, Mark Hamill voiced DC’s Clown Prince of Crime in varied endeavors, starting from the very beloved Batman: The Animated Series. Although the likelihood of the Star Wars actor ever returning to the role is minimal in light of Kevin Conroy’s passing, there’s one person to thank behind his iteration of the Batman arch-nemesis coming into existence in the first place.
And funnily enough, it almost seems fateful that it was none other than Michael Keaton, one of the actors who embodied The Caped Crusader in live-action films, albeit to initial flak.

In an interview, Hamill recollected how Keaton’s then-contentious selection to play Batman at the time helped him contend for the voice-acting role of the Joker.

It’s Cape Fear meets ‘The Burbs in director John Schlesinger’s Pacific Heights. Although you might be fooled by Hanz Zimmer’s score, which sounds a lot more like you’re watching Sexy Beetlejuice than a ’90s thriller. This is pure irony, of course, considering the film stars Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton, as a conman who is six feet from the edge and thinking maybe doing murder isn’t so far down.
For those of you arguing silently in your heads that Pacific Heights is not a horror movie, let me go ahead and agree with you. It’s a pure thriller. But imagine this for a moment; imagine somewhere out there is a fresh-off Batman Michael Keaton, sitting in a dark room twirling both a razor blade and a large cockroach through his fingers like some sort of emo fidget spinner, plotting you and your significant other’s demise.

Say it once. Say it twice. Three times a charm. Michael Keaton got to have a hilarious moment at last night’s Oscars with the Batman villains confronting him, and his week looks to be getting better for him as his most anticipated sequel is about to burst from its grave. Keaton recently said in an interview that he has seen Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, in which he reunites with Tim Burton, and he would surprisingly be moved by how it came out. Keaton stated, “It is really good. And beautiful. Beautiful, you know, physically. You know what I mean? The other one was so fun and exciting visually. It’s all that, but really kind of beautiful and interestingly emotional here and there. I wasn’t ready for that, you know. Yeah, it’s great.”

Spawning from a 2019 viral YouTube pilot, A24, Amazon Prime, and creator Vivienne Medrano’s Hazbin Hotel has quickly proven itself to be a massive success; boasting the largest global debut for an animated series on Prime Video….. Ever and scoring rave reviews from both critics and audiences, with Decider’s Raven Brunner praising the “queer, raunchy, and fun” animated series for its “exciting character arcs” and “thrilling story.”

Before Winona Ryder was known for "Stranger Things," she was known for being "strange and unusual." At least, that's how her character in 1988's "Beetlejuice" put it. The actor would become a goth icon following her role in Tim Burton's 1988 effort, "Beetlejuice," with appearances in "Heathers" (1989), and "Edward Scissorhands" (1990) further cementing her alt-girl status. But there's no doubt "Beetlejuice" was where it all began.
The actor starred as Lydia Deetz, the teenage daughter of Charles and Delia, who move into a new house in Winter River, Connecticut, only to find it haunted by the ghost with the most himself, Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton). In the movie, Keaton's rambunctious supernatural miscreant was hired to spook the Deetz family by the former owners of the house, Barbara and Adam Maitland (Geena Davis and Alex Baldwin), who suddenly found themselves in the afterlife following a car accident. Lydia, meanwhile, becomes somewhat of...

“After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return to the small Vermont town of Winter River. Paranormal empath, ‘Lydia Deetz’, begins to see the lecherous demon Beetlejuice, who haunted her as a teenager.

Actor Mark Wahlberg discussed an intense experience from filming the comedy Ted 2 involving a deleted scene. Despite never making the final cut, Wahlberg was forced to memorize a random list of 57 movie character names, and five years later, he still wakes up “saying that shit.”

In an interview for Vanity Fair‘s Hollywood Issue, Jenna Ortega detailed her role as the daughter of Winona Ryder’s beloved character in the Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The story of a shy teenage girl who comes out of her shell after raising the boy of her dreams from the dead sounds like a job for the Tim Burton of yore. And yet, Lisa Frankenstein’s strengths are so specific to a weirdo female gaze that even the certified freak who made Beetlejuice would’ve failed to deliver on the potential of this film’s premise.
Diablo Cody’s script—operating on the same wicked, smirking wavelength as her now-cult classic Jennifer’s Body—is absolutely fearless in chasing the darkest implications of this story to its bitter end. The film gleefully lets its body count—in both the homicidal and sexual sense of the term, sometimes in the same scene—add up in gruesome, macabre fashion.
Getting there, though, is somewhat rough. Just as Lisa (Kathryn Newton) can’t seem to connect with the world around her at first,...

Thirty-six years after the release of the Tim Burton-directed classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), we’re finally going to be seeing a sequel when Beetlejuice 2 reaches theatres on September 6th… and as we watch the new film play out on the big screen, we’re apparently not going to be seeing much CGI in it. Star Jenna Ortega told Entertainment Tonight that working on Beetlejuice 2 was “some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a set. Visually, so exciting. Everything was practical. I think we’re not using very much CGI or something like that at all. Everyone did an incredible job. I felt so lucky to be there, it was insane … I can’t wait for people to see.“
Ortega’s comments actually echo something her co-star Michael Keaton – who reprises the role of the titular character – said seven months ago, when the film was still in production.

Every so often, a long-presumed dead sequel will suddenly spring from the grave like Michael Keaton's "Ghost With the Most" flying out of his coffin in "Beetlejuice." So it was when "Beetlejuice 2" was announced in 2022 following multiple failed attempts at making a follow-up to Tim Burton's original 1988 supernatural comedy. "Beetlejuice" wasn't Burton's first feature (that would be "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure"), but it was arguably the first "Tim Burton film" that established him as a true stylist. It's also probably the horniest, most foul-mouthed movie to snag a PG rating this side of the invention of the PG-13 -- the sort of film you make when you're an outsider hungry to prove yourself and unleash your idiosyncratic, gleefully anti-commercial vision on the industry.
More than 35 years later, Burton has unfortunately become a brand unto himself, his macabre, twisted vision no longer something that makes studios nervous. "Beetlejuice 2...

Saban Films has nabbed the U.S. rights to Michael Keaton’s Knox Goes Away thriller, which also stars Al Pacino, James Marsden and Marcia Gay Harden. Saban is eyeing a 2024 first quarter theatrical release.
Keaton directs and stars in the neo-noir thriller as John Knox, a contract killer with a rapid onset of of dementia who is offered the chance to redeem himself by saving the life of the adult son played by Marsden with whom he had been estranged.
As the usually cold and calculating killer steadily loses his memory, Knox finds himself in a race against time as a lost and confused father tries help his son cover up a messy and violent crime. For direction, Knox turns to his friend Xavier (Al Pacino) to guide him forward as the clock ticks down.
Knox Goes Away also stars Suzy Nakamura as a tough-as-nails female detective, John Hoogenakker,...

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the animated series adaptation of Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice,“ which aired from 1989 to 1991 on ABC/Fox Network.
In the eighties and nineties, studios were never shy about taking mature intellectual properties and cashing in on them by giving them their own animated spinoffs for kids. Among the rather extensive list were direct G-rated adaptations like “Rambo,” “Conan,” “Ace Ventura,” and even “Police Academy.” One of the most notable, and more widely celebrated adaptations was of Tim Burton’s 1988 hit film Beetlejuice. While the original movie excelled in being as menacing, bizarre, and raunchy as possible, executive producers Tim Burton and David Geffen opted for a more kid friendly variation of the “Ghost with the Most” for the animated series.
Aimed more for the 8-12 Saturday morning cartoon demographic, the animated show thankfully stuck true to much of what made the movie so entertaining.
