NBC’s coverage of Night 1 of the 2020 presidential election’s first Democratic debate averaged 7.4 million total viewers and a 1.6 demo rating, dominating Wednesday in both measures.
Update: With viewership via MSNBC and Telemundo now folded in, the grand total is 15.3 million — just shy of the 2016 election’s first Democratic debate, which featured featuring Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee, and amassed 15.8 million. But you can add onto this year’s total more than 9 million viewers who live streamed the debate.
In a TVLine poll, Elizabeth Warren, Julian Castro and Cory Booker most impressed during the two-hour face-off.

With each candidate's exit from the 2016 presidential race, Stephen Colbert revives the Late Show's "Hungry for Power Games" to bid farewell to the losing "tributes." Following a disappointing turnout in Florida, where the Gop vote sided heavily with Donald Trump, Colbert told his audience, "Florida senator, and boy whose birthday party your parents made you attend, Marco Rubio has joined the ranks of the fallen."

Aside from The Economy, there was a specific plot thread expected to run through tonight's third Republican primary debate. The CNBC-hosted debate, subtitled (really!) as Your Money, Your Vote, marked the first meeting of the minds ahead of which Donald Trump was not dominating all of the polls, (those things cable news reports on endlessly and which late-night talk show hosts keep referring to when they're about to tell a joke about Lincoln Chafee). Instead, Dr. Ben Carson first was said to be leading Trump in Iowa, site of the perennially important caucus on Feb. 1, and then a CBS News/New York Times poll released yesterday shows the retired soft-spoken neurosurgeon leading the outspoken businessman...

Former Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee will drop out of the Democratic presidential race on Friday, shrinking the field down to Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O’Malley. Politico reported on what Chafee will say at a Democratic National Committee event in Washington, D.C. “As you know I have been campaigning on a platform of Prosperity Through Peace,” he’ll say. “But after much thought I have decided to end my campaign for president today. I would like to take this opportunity one last time to advocate for a chance be given to peace.” Also Read: Former Rhode...

Earlier this week, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator Larry David sent social media into a frenzy over his impression of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders during the first Democratic presidential debate Oct. 13. The tradition of impersonating political figures is a long one, and we’ve rounded up some of our favorites! First up, the most recent “SNL” political skit starring some of the show’s staple actors. Taran Killam as Martin O’Malley; Kyle Mooney as Lincoln Chafee; Alec Baldwin as Jim Webb; Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton; and David as SandersThe rug was lifted on what everyone watching the first Democratic presidential debate was thinking: From Clinton’s (entirely too) well-rehearsed responses to Webb’s assertion that he indeed did serve in the Vietnam War, all the way to Sanders’ exclamation that the American people are tired of “hearing about those damn emails,” “SNL” hit all the markers. Jason Sudeikis as...

On SNL's cold open, Taran Killam played Martin O'Malley, Kyle Mooney was Lincoln Chafee and Alec Baldwin thought it was "about damn time" that Jim Webb got to talk (oh yeah, Alec Baldwin was on too!!!). Then "Hillary" was introduced, followed by "Bernie Sanders." Cue the mad applause as people realized that SNL had taken the advice of everyone, ever, and cast Larry David. (No offense to Fred Armisen's previous portrayal of Sanders in the past, but this was just always meant to be.) "Enough with the hellos, let's do this," he crankily but good-naturedly encouraged the crowd to cool it with the applause. They of course took on the part of the real debate where...

Jimmy Fallon recruited an extremely sleepy David Alan Grier for a hilarious sketch of Donald Trump and Dr. Ben Carson watching Tuesday’s CNN Democratic debate together over the phone. Fallon’s Trump woke Grier’s Carson from a nap to insult the left-leaning cable news discussion, saying that Lincoln Chafee “looks like a turtle that shops at Men’s Wearhouse.” Not to be outdone, the faux Carson referred to Bernie Sanders “the angry Muppet.” “This debate is the saddest thing I’ve ever seen — and I’ve met Jeb Bush,” Trump continued his iPhone rant. Jimmy Fallon dusted off the golden hairball that is his Donald Trump wig and hopped on the phone with Ben Carson — played soothingly by David Alan Grier — on The Tonight Show Wednesday for an astute recap of the Democratic presidential debate.
After rousing Carson from one of his "little kitty cat naps," Fallon, as the Donald, launched right into an underwhelmed, overexaggerated monologue. He knocked Lincoln Chafee — "He looks like a turtle that shops at Men's Warehouse" — and called the debate, "The saddest thing I've ever seen, and I've met Jeb Bush.

Fallon decided to take a guess at what Trump had to say about the debate, so he transformed into Trump, who decided to call his pal Dr. Ben Carson (David Alan Grier), who was in the middle of a nap. Fallon's Trump took aim at many of the candidates throughout the debate, but summarized it from the very beginning as "hugely boring. Huge snoozefest." But then he went after candidate Lincoln Chafee, who referred to himself as a "block of granite" during the debate. Fallon's Trump did not agree. "He...

Sanders raked in a staggering majority of all three polls, with Hillary Clinton coming in a distant second and Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee barely registering.
