In the animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," we were introduced to the character of Professor Huyang, an architect and lightsaber designer droid who has been instructing younglings studying to be Jedi for, as he says in the series, "over a thousand generations." Visually designed with inspiration from concept artist Ralph McQuarrie's original art for C-3Po, Huyang's database has all the information about every lightsaber ever made and the Jedi who wielded it. Plus, as we saw in the live-action Disney+ series "Ahsoka," he helps with Sabine's (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) lightsaber training. Huyang is voiced in both projects by David Tennant, aka the Tenth Doctor from "Doctor Who,...

Paramount+ has spooked up two hits with debuts “Teen Wolf: The Movie” and “Wolf Pack,” both of which hail from MTV Entertainment Studios, creator Jeff Davis (who’s under a multi-year deal at the studio) and MGM.

Their rivalry lasts throughout the decades, but in Season 4, Daniel’s Miyagi-Do and Johnny’s Eagle Fang dojos join forces to take down the Cobra Kai dojo led by their enemy John Kreese (Martin Kove) at the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament.
“If Johnny and I can actually work together and we win, Cobra Kai will be out of business,” Daniel says to his wife Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) in the trailer, which you can watch below.
“You gotta take things to the next level,” Johnny says to his students. “Eagles do not respond. They swoop down and take whatever they want.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 8
One of the most creative episodes of Star Wars Rebels was “Through Imperial Eyes,” which did exactly what the title says. Using a first-person point of view, it opens with Rebel spy Kallus contemplating his day behind enemy lines. “Reunion,” written by Steward Lee and directed by Christian Taylor, ends a somber episode with a similar switch of point of view. It feels right. While the cast still feels too large for the story they’re trying to tell, the tone and visuals shine in “Reunion.”
Throughout, the episode commits to a rewarding seriousness. The Bad Batch are still in the starship graveyard, and so are Crosshair’s stormtroopers. The stormtroopers chase the clones through the ruined ship, cornering them inside one of the engines until Tech and Wrecker blast the entire nozzle off the ship.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 4
The clones of the Bad Batch are low on food and fuel, but it’s a more exotic problem that meets them on the planet Pantora: a cool and competent bounty hunter. “Cornered,” an action-heavy episode directed by Saul Ruiz and written by Christian Taylor, brings more of the same to The Bad Batch. This might end up being a make-or-break episode for some folks; we’re really in the plot now, the threats and relationships established. The bond between the clones, or Hunter and Omega specifically, has to work at this point … and I’m so-so on whether it does. The rapid-fire pace means there isn’t a lot of time for all that to sink in, and a B-plot involving Echo being sold as if he’s a droid feels especially surface-level.

Chicago – “The Girl Who Wore Freedom,” a documentary created by Christian Taylor, is a film that speaks not only of the celebration of France’s appreciation for the Allies liberation of the country in World War II (beginning with D-Day), but also of the dogged determination of filmmaker Taylor to finish the project and place it in into festival consideration.
The story centers on an obscure story, which would have been lost to time if not for its discovery by the filmmaker. Danielle Patrix was a little girl in 1944 during the World War II liberation of France that occurred after D-Day, and in honor of the Allied troops – but especially the U.S. soldiers – her mother made her a red, white and blue American outfit out of discarded parachutes. Her story led to another, as Taylor contrasts the French remembrance with interviews of U.S. WWII veterans who participated in the liberation.

Chicago – The era of World War II, now close to 80 years in the past, seems ever so farther in the rear view mirror of history. Movies have done their part to keep the memories and the spirit alive, so joining such works as “Band of Brothers” and “Saving Private Ryan” is a new documentary in development, “The Girl Who Wore Freedom,” now in pre-production by filmmakers Christian Taylor and Terry Jun of Reverse Negative Studios in Skokie, Ill.

Star Wars Ph.D.: Every week, Jon Davis will take a look at the new, expanded Star Wars universe and discuss which Star Wars projects are worthy of our attention. As we all know, George Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney in 2012. He wanted to move on and, after the prequels, I think a lot of fans wanted him to move on. But George Lucas is a visionary and he deserves lots and lots of credit for trying to do something different with each of the Star Wars movies. Unfortunately, people preferred the swashbuckling, comedy-action tone of the originals, not the plodding politics of the first three episodes. Still, George Lucas wasn't quite done with Star Wars after Revenge of the Sith. He went to create the Clone Wars animated TV series for Cartoon Network. We know he was heavily involved in the beginning and then slowly stepped away.

When Teen Wolf is at its best, it is mining all possible feels out of its situations. “Feels” is a relatively new term coined by the Tumblr generation, which means that basically Teen Wolf successfully replicates the emotional roller-coaster that is the teenage experience. First love, first crush, bromances, the never-ending travails of a transforming body, Teen Wolf handles all these very well indeed, without being too heavy-handed. When the show is heavy-handed, it usually doesn't stay that way for too long. Being a teenager is a horror show, and nobody knows that better than Derek Hale.
Derek Hale, everyone's favorite grouchy mentor and foil to Stiles, was found in a teenage state (played by Ian Nelson) last week by the gang in their Mexican cave. This week he's back in...

3.22 De-Void
As Teen Wolf's third season heads to its impending big conclusion, there's a definite, deliberate attempt to build up the pace and create a fever pitch of paranoia, fear, and anxiety among both the viewers and the characters on the show. With De-Void, Teen Wolf reaches a fever pitch of weird craziness, thanks in no small part to the show's three seasons of twists, turns, betrayals, romances, and bromances. Jeff Davis and company have shown a renewed willingness to reach back into actual history for inspiration, and now they're reaching back into the show's history to create some conflict in the waning hours of its winter semester.

Whatever Teen Wolf's crazy schemes, it remains a consistently entertaining and well-made show...
This review contains spoilers.
3.18 Riddled
When you get an unexpected phone call in the middle of the night, it's rarely good news. When that phone call is from Stiles, the best friend and erratic voice of the audience on MTV's Teen Wolf, then you're definitely in trouble. As it turns out, Stiles is in a bit of a pickle, or rather, a basement with some sort of bear trap on his foot, and it's up to Scott and the usual gang of teenagers to help find and rescue Stiles before his dad finds out and gets too worried.
It seems weird to be so full of praise for Dylan O'Brien, but of all the young actors on the show, he's the one that remains the most impressive, week in and week out.

This is a special edition of Short Starts, where we look at the Sundance shorts program class of 1993. 1992 and 1994 are very notable years in the history of the Sundance Film Festival. Mostly for features. In between, the 1993 event should be recognized for its short film program. It was only the second year of this section — though shorts were an increasingly significant part of the fest since 1988 — and it remains, two decades later, probably the most important (if not best) batch of short films to ever come together in Park City. Among the filmmakers receiving their first real notice in this program were Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, David Wain, Eugene Jarecki, Tamara Jenkins, Ted Demme, Stanley Tucci (as writer/producer), Gary Fleder, Alex Sichel, Mike Mitchell and animators Eric Darnell and Matt O’Callaghan. Their early works played alongside shorts by Michael Almereyda, Lourdes Portillo and two eventual Oscar nominees, Christian Taylor...

The manager explains that the Glen Capri has the dubious honor of having the most suicides...

Review Ron Hogan 9 Jul 2013 - 07:45
Teen Wolf's horror is impressively handled, even if its romance is somewhat corny. Here's Ron's review of Motel California...
This review contains spoilers.
3.6 Motel California
Teen Wolf continues to wear its love of creepiness on its sleeve, and this week's episode is a good example of how well the show can do menacing when it's not preoccupied with eye candy. Motel California is a pretty effective locked room horror, what with the kids being stranded at a creepy motel and all. The motel itself feels very California, which makes sense since the show is being shot in La this season, rather than last season's central Georgia. It contributes to the Psycho feel of this week's episode, which features various cast members in peril throughout the episode in a variety of cheap motel rooms via a variety of interesting means.

"Teen Wolf" Season 3 is a bit disjointed. Can Christian Taylor, former head writer of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," help bring things together in Episode 3.06, "Motel California"? One surprise for fans he brought together for the ep is a pair of "Clone Wars" co-stars!
Taylor (pictured), who left “Clone Wars” to work on “Teen Wolf,” wrote and directed the next episode, which airs on Monday, July 8th, at 10 p.m. Et/Pt. He thought it would be a fun homage to use two of the actors from “Clone Wars” to record “ghost voices” in the motel so keep your ears open for James Arnold Taylor (“Obi Wan Kenobi”) and Ashley Eckstein (“Ahsoka Tano”).
Now, what of these Alphas mentioned in the headline? Check out this video featurette in which the members of Deucalion's Alpha Pack discuss what each brings to the group.

I love this show. Like many, I rolled my eyes at the whole idea when I first heard of it; the movie wasn’t really my thing. But when I found myself sitting through their Comic Con panel before Season 1 had aired, I was convinced,...

Much to our surprise MTV's "Teen Wolf" series is a lot better than we had expected it to be. Sure, it has its cheesy (and holy cow, do we mean cheesy) points, but for the most part the past two seasons have been fun, and now that it's hitting DVD, you can see for yourself.
Look for it in stores on May 21st.
